Downtown Center for Community Engagement “Giving high-impact

programs a physical presence in downtown Burlington and locating our students, faculty and staff close to most of our community partners and those we serve demonstrates Elon’s strong commitment to our larger Alamance County community.” -Dr. Gerald Francis

Executive Vice President, Elon University

217 East Davis Street

Elon University’s Downtown Center for Community Engagement supports the expansion of community programs and partnerships that help hundreds of Alamance County residents and provide rich learning experiences for Elon students. The 1,700-square-foot building provides office space for The Village Project, an outreach program of Elon’s School of Education. A nationally recognized initiative, the John R. Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement links the Elon University campus to downtown Burlington. Campus members seeking to work with local nonprofit organizations have a space to convene and plan mutually beneficial partnerships.

Street parking is available near the Center, and overflow parking is available in the public lots behind Company Shops Market. Additionally, the Elon BioBus stops across the street from the Center at the May Memorial Library.

The Village Project The Village Project is an intentionally collaborative endeavor among several stakeholders—Elon University’s School of Education, May Memorial Library, First Presbyterian Church, The Oak Foundation, parents, struggling students, teachers, Barnes and Noble (Alamance Crossing) and in partnership with UNCG and Concordia University. The ultimate goal of The Village Project is the improvement of critical literacy skills among our communities’ children.
