After attending a basic course in process
simulation, engineers are faced with the task of developing simulation cases for a specific
objective. Whether they have to troubleshoot an operational problem, to monitor the process performance, to improve unit yields or to minimize energy consumption, they have to start the simulation in a completely different environment: overwhelming amount of data, scattered in different sources and sometimes not consistent. And then also: What is the minimum simulation scope? Which level of detail to use? What confidence to apply to the results?
