Eagle’s Landing

The

Letter From the Principal

A new year is always a great time to think back over the past year and look at ways to move forward for Jesus Christ in the future. As I reflect back over the 2013 year I am amazed at how God has moved in the lives and hearts of His servants and to see all that has been accomplished for Jesus Christ. This year seems to have flown by and has been filled with excitement.

God’s blessings have been evident at Elmwood and upon the lives of all of the families that have a part in Elmwood and its various ministries. As we continue to look to the Lord Jesus Christ for all our needs, we believe that 2014 will be a great year. I want to say “Thank-You” to every parent, family member and friend at Elmwood. God is using you in miraculous ways. We are proud to serve along side of you and train up your children for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I am reminded of the statement made by Joshua to the nation of Israel near the end of Joshua’s life. As the aging leader of the great nation of Israel stands in front of the entire nation of Israel he states, “and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spoke concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof” (Joshua 23:14). I stand assured today that my God will never fail. What God has promised in His Word will come to pass! As God’s children, we have so many precious promises found in the Word of God. God has promised that He “shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians

4:19). He has also promised that “all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive” (Matthew 21:22). With promises such as these and so many more, why do we, as God’s children, have to be afraid or worry? There is no reason. As we move forward for Jesus Christ and serve Him faithfully, He will bless richly. We may not know what will happen this new year, but we can rest assured that the one, true God of Heaven is in control. I encourage you to look to Him for all of your needs. Make a commitment to be faithful to our Lord and Savior as He has been faithful to us. It is but our reasonable service, May God bless you richly and abundantly as you serve Him this new year! May you know God’s love and joy this holiday season. God bless you and Happy New Year! Pastor Joshua C Lehman Principal/Administrator

The Value of Friendship and a Church Family 3 Reasons You Need Good Friends

As travelers through life, God never intended that we make our journey alone. There are simply too many obstacles and challenges to navigate without the help and assistance of others. Plus, life is simply too grand not to have someone to share the joy and wonder of it all with!

There, we are told something simple but very profound: two are better than one. The reason given is that we gain something together that cannot be had alone. Three reasons two are better than one are specifically mentioned:

1. When One Falls down There Is Someone Fellowship with others is one of the great to Lift Him Up blessings of life, and to have a friend is not just More often than we like to admit, we do fall a good idea, it is really God’s idea for us. The Lord Is at Hand

God Is at Work in Your Life There are times in the Christian walk when the Lord seems far away. The dew of His conscious presence no longer saturates the contemplations of our heart. The clouds of unbelief hide the Son from us and we feel all alone. God, however, clearly tells us in His Word that He is ever present. Because He is at hand we know He is near. He is looking on. He could come at any moment and take us home with Him to Heaven. We also know that He could change our present circumstances if He willed. For them to remain means He has a purpose in our difficulties. There is a greater good to be realized beyond our immediate deliverance. Perhaps you are expending much energy grappling with why you are facing something today. Know that the Lord is at hand. His hand is not shortened that it cannot save and His ear is not heavy that it cannot hear. Accept where you are and trust God to guide you from here. Let patience have her perfect work. He is near when He seems so far, Our blessed Saviour knows where you are. With nail-pierced hands to hold and to guide, The tempted and touched will stand by your side.

Character Emphasis

Available

Character Counts! I’m almost finished with it, and I’d be glad to help, Mr. Friendson.

Ace, I know you are trying to finish that PACE, but I could use your help.

One of the younger students is having difficulty with his Scripture memory.

The above character strip illustrating the character trait “available” comes from brand new 4th Edition Math PACE 1084. The A.C.E. definition of available—one of sixty character traits of Christ used in the curriculum— means scheduling my priorities to fit the desires of others. Ace is close to finishing his PACE work when Mr. Friendson asks him for his help. Mr. Friendson would like Ace to assist a younger student in memorizing his Scripture memory verses. Even though Ace is not quite finished with his work, he cheerfully helps the younger student. Ace put helping Mr. Friendson as his first priority. By rescheduling his work and putting Mr. Friendson’s desire above his own, Ace clearly demonstrates the character trait “available.”

them as one having authority and not as the religious leaders. When He came down from the mountain where He had preached, great multitudes followed him (Matthew 8:1). They made themselves available to listen to, to follow, and to do whatever He commanded.

Matthew the tax collector was at his place of business one day when Jesus came by and simply said, Follow me. (Matthew 9:9) Matthew evidently recognized Him as the promised Messiah and realized that there was nothing he was doing that was more important than being available to be used by Jesus. Immediately he arose and followed Him.

Abraham sent his servant to the country of his younger life. He told his servant to get a wife for his son Isaac (this procedure was normal in those days). The servant prayed and asked God to lead him to the right one God had chosen. When he arrived, God prospered his way and led him to Rebekah and her house. The servant talked with the father and asked Rebekah if she would go and be the bride of Isaac. She immediately made herself available and followed the man back to where Isaac lived. They became man and wife (Genesis 24:61).

God used Moses to deliver the Jewish people out of bondage in Egypt. As they approached the land that God had promised to give them, Moses sent out 12 men to spy out the land and bring back a report. Ten of the men reported that it was impossible for them to overtake the land, but Joshua and Caleb made themselves available to be used of God, for they wholly followed the Lord (Numbers 32:12). Today God wants men like Joshua and Caleb to be available.

Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee and saw Peter and Andrew, his brother, fishing. Jesus simply said, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. (Matthew 4:19) They must have perceived that this was the longawaited Messiah, and immediately they left their nets and made themselves available to follow Him and became fishers of men. Jesus gave one of the greatest messages ever preached in Matthew 5, 6, and 7. When He was finished, the people were astonished at His doctrine as Jesus taught

9

As Ace, Matthew, the disciples, the multitude, Joshua and Caleb, and Rebekah all made themselves available to do God’s will, so may God help each one of us to be available to do whatever He asks us to do, to schedule our priorities to fit the desires of the Lord and of our authorities. 

We want to let you know of a great opportunity for you to help Elmwood Baptist Academy. Kroger/King Soopers has partnered with EBA in a great money raising opportunity at no cost to you. Simply purchase a pre-loaded $50.00 gift card from Elmwood for $50.00 and shop as you normally would. Keep this card and continue using it every time you shop for groceries or fuel. Every time you load additional money on the card, Elmwood received 5%. For example, the day you purchase your card Elmwood received $2.50 (5% of $50.00). When you go to store and buy $XXX.00 in groceries, ask the clerk to add what amount you desire to the card before they start to ring up your order. Then, simply pay with the gift card. The next time you shop, simply follow this same pattern. You may add as much money as you want to the card at any time. Thank you for supporting Elmwood Baptist Church and Academy.
