The Topaz matches Salomon’s ‘Touch’ range of skis, but that’s not the only reason to choose this pole. The 16mm 7075 aluminium shaft is light and strong, the women’s specific handle is comfortable and grippy, and the steel tip and 55mm basket suit a variety of terrain and conditions. Handle: women’s specific, dual density, black and white Strap: adjustable, oversized support, white Shaft: 16mm 7075 aluminium Basket: Standard 55mm, translucent Tip: steel Colour: White (900) Sizes: 105 - 120 Code 703014

The 3 Speed has been one of our best selling poles for 5 seasons now, for the simple reason that it’s a composite pole under £30. The shaft is light, flexible and strong, the handle is grippy and comfortable and the 60mm basket suitable for a variety of terrain. Handle: rubber overmold, black Strap: adjustable, black Shaft: 16mm composite Basket: Hard Snow 60mm, black Tip: steel Colour: Black (900) Sizes: 110 - 130 Code 703008

The Dart is light, strong and perfect for the park with its skinny, super-grippy bike-style handle. The wide strap improves comfort and hold, the small basket doesn’t get in the way, and the steel tip is solid and durable. Handle: super-grippy bike style, blue Strap: wide, black, blue and yellow Shaft: 6000 series aluminium Basket: 60mm, black Tip: pointy Colour: Blue/Yellow (900) Sizes: 111, 116, 120, 127 Code 703016

Salomon Arctic Origins £20

K2 4 Karat £36

Salomon Patrol £30

£20 poles can look and feel cheap, but that’s not the case with the Arctic Origins. The graphics and finish ensure a classy look that matches the Salomon ‘Touch’ skis, the women’s specific handle is comfortable and well-designed, and the 16mm shaft helps to keep the weight down. Handle: women’s specific, dual density, black and aqua Strap: adjustable, black Shaft: 16mm 6061 aluminium Basket: Standard 55mm, translucent Tip: steel Colour: White/Black (900) Sizes: 105 - 120 Code 703015

Using the same shaft as the 3 Karat but with extra elements, the 4 Karat has a beautifully finished chrome effect handle and a colourmatched strap with stitched detail. Perfectly suits the K2 women’s ski range. Handle: women’s specific, chrome overmold, white Strap: adjustable, grey Shaft: 16mm composite Basket: Hard Snow 60mm, grey Tip: steel Colour: White/Blue (900) Sizes: 110 - 120 Code 703009

K2 V8 £35

K2 3 Karat £27

Tip

The freestyle orientated V8 uses a thin, dual density handle for easier grabs, a composite shaft for strength and lighter weight, and a Hard Snow basket that doesn’t get in the way when skiing park. Handle: thin, dual density, factory team, black and blue Strap: adjustable, black Shaft: 16mm composite Basket: Hard Snow 60mm, blue Tip: steel Colour: Black (900) Sizes: 110 - 130 Code 703007

The ideal match to our range of K2 ladies skis, the 3 Karat, is a year-on-year bestseller. The 16mm composite shaft is light and easy to swing, yet still tough and resistant to bangs, the colour coordinated handle and strap feel comfy and solid and the 60mm baskets suit a variety of terrain. Handle: rubber overmold, black Strap: adjustable, black Shaft: 16mm composite Basket: Hard Snow 60mm, black Tip: steel Colour: Black/Pink (900) Sizes: 105 - 125 Code 703010

Most tips will be made of steel to provide good ‘bite’ on hard snow and strength to withstand knocks and bangs. Carbon based tips are more expensive but will cut into firm snow exceptionally well.

The Patrol proved a super-popular choice last season and it’s obvious why – there’s a lot of pole for the money! Racing handles are comfortable and grippy, the 7075 aluminium shaft is strong and, best of all, it’s got 80mm baskets for the best floatation in soft snow. Handle: dual density Racing, black and white Strap: adjustable wide, black Shaft: 18mm 7075 aluminium Basket: Freeride 80mm, black Tip: steel Colour: Black (900) Sizes: 115 - 135 Code 703012

Salomon Arctic £20 This Salomon pole represents great value for money at £20. A comfortable dual density grip, 55mm basket suitable for all-mountain use, durable steel tip and a lightweight 18mm aluminium shaft. Handle: dual density, black and white Strap: adjustable, black Shaft: 18mm 6061aluminium Basket: Standard 55mm, black Tip: steel Colour: Gunmetal (900) Sizes: 115 - 135 Code 703013

technical features Basket Wider baskets will not sink in soft snow as much as a narrower one, so choose a pole with a big basket if you intend to ski off-piste (the 90mm Powder on the Scott Voodoo). Narrower baskets suit piste skiing and park use (the 60mm basket on the Line Dart). The Kerma Powdertrack comes with 2 sets of baskets so you can swap from piste to powder without compromising.

Ski Pole Sizing Position your elbow next to your side and bend your forearm 90° so that it is parallel to the ground. Take the ski pole and turn it upside down, putting the handle on the floor. With the ski pole vertical, position your hand under the basket. If it is the correct size your forearm will still be parallel to the ground.
