MDE511 Polarisation Maintaining Fibre Launch Stage

The popular Elliot GoldTM series XYZ flexure stage is an evolution of the original version invented by Martock Design. The most stable stage on the market, it is ideal for high precision device alignment due to its nanometre resolution. Fibre launch (pictured top right), waveguide alignment, and the manipulation of microstructures in bioscience are typical applications. The stage can be supplied with a variety of adjusters, from simple or precision, through to piezo or stepper motor. It is available in right- or left-hand versions, and has an extensive range of complementary fibre-optic accessories that include v-grooves and clamps, vacuum or connectorised holders, fibre rotators and grippers.

Six-axis Positioning Stage

Such is the versatility of the Elliot GoldTM series XYZ flexure stage, it can form the basis of much more complex manipulators, such as our 6-axis positioning stage for fibre, waveguide and device alignment. Alignment of single mode fibres has never been an easy task, so the Elliot|Martock range was originally developed to address this challenge. With optical waveguide devices, alignment is more difficult as it is necessary to simultaneously align fibres or fibre arrays to the input and output of a device. Elliot Scientific’s range of solutions include the MDE 881 Professional Workstation, a flexure based system designed specifically to address alignment problems with a wide variety of devices and fibre types in both characterisation and pigtailing applications.

Foresight™ can measure subtle changes in both temperature and strain along the length of a fibre over time, or the rapid detection and location of a major disturbance within a second. By wrapping or embedding a fibre inside a structure, such as an oil pipeline or dam, detection of the structure being thermally cycled or otherwise stressed is possible, allowing for pre-emptive maintenance. Such monitoring capability is invaluable in critical structures where cracks and failure could involve loss of life or other unprecedented costs. Foresight™ can also detect and report larger signals within one second with only a slight loss of accuracy. This sort of response speed is ideal for applications such as border and perimeter security, or strains caused by earthquakes where an immediate measurement and reaction may be required.

Materials Research

Semiconductor and electronic materials are continuously being developed for new applications that include highpower, photovoltaic and thermoelectric devices, displays, and organic electronics. The traditional electronic transport property measurement system with DC field cannot measure many of these materials due to their low charge carrier mobilities and the high temperatures needed to characterise high-power devices, so a new measurement method is needed.

Hall Measurement System

Lake Shore’s 8400 series AC/DC Hall measurement system is the flagship of the range of Hall platforms, and includes a unique AC field option that enables users to characterise materials with Hall mobilities down to 0.001 cm2/Vs, lower than is possible using traditional DC field Hall measurement techniques. This feature allows for easier measurement of emerging semiconductor and electronic materials, enabling a significant breakthrough in research productivity.

VSM/AGM Systems

Cryogenic Probe Stations Lake Shore’s cryogenic probe stations provide precisely-controlled environments for the non-destructive measurement of the electrical properties of materials and early-stage electronic devices. These systems incorporate two basic magnetometer techniques with overlapping functional capabilities. The two techniques are represented by the 2900 series alternating gradient (AGM) and 3900 series vibrating sample (VSM) magnetometers, configured either separately or as a combination system with both AGM and VSM measurement heads mounted to a single electromagnet platform. These systems deliver the broadest range of magnetic measurement capabilities with sensitivity to 10-9 emu and measurement speed of 100 ms per point in AGM mode.
