Purpose of job: Ents Crew will work as a team member to assist the Entertainments and Events Manager in achieving and exceeding customer expectations for the Entertainments operation. Working behind the scenes in our venues, you will ensure that all technical preparations, for events run like clockwork. You will be involved with sound, lighting, DJ equipment, area decoration and preparation. Full training for all aspects of the role will be given. You will be expected to attend various training courses such as manual handling, working at height, and an understanding of technical aspects of event work is desirable, but not essential. You will be expected to be committed to the role, be punctual and reliable, and work unsociable hours. You will also attend Crew Meetings as part of your commitment to the role. Reporting to:

You will need excellent communication skills and be able to work as part of a team. You will also need to be able to work at height and work on your own initiative. You will assist in the smooth running of events Use technical knowledge, i.e. sound, lighting, DJ, etc. Working with various technical equipment Ensure events are well-prepared and organized Work within all Health and Safety regulations Attend all relevant training Any other duties, as may be reasonably required, from time to time

These duties are a guide to the work that the post holder will initially be required to undertake. Other duties or a change of duties may be necessary from time to time. The duties do not form part of the contract of employment. It is important to know that you will be expected to participate in any training programme considered relevant to your job. The Students’ Union expects all 2


staff to participate and take ownership of their Induction, Appraisal Programmes, Departmental Staff Meetings, Training and Networking opportunities and be responsible for reading the rules and conditions of service contained in the Staff Handbook. A condition of employment is that all staff are expected to assist in key events throughout the year e.g. Summer Ball, Freshers Fair and any other key event, including elections, if necessary. Staff are expected to portray a positive image, both internally and externally of the Students’ Union by displaying high standards of service, integrity, punctuality, politeness and professionalism. In certain posts it is essential to maintain employee confidentiality at all times and work in compliance with the Data Protection Act.
