WELCOME TO BEAUTIFUL INDIAN LAKE On behalf of the Indian Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitor’s Bureau, I welcome you. As a Certified Tourism Ambassador, I am proud to promote our business and community to our members, local residents, and visitors to our area. The Indian Lake Region is known as one of Ohio’s best in-state destinations, hosting over two million visitors a year. They come here for the boating, fishing, camping, swimming, picnicking, and hiking as well as the ice fishing and snowmobiling. The area has many renowned amenities, including our own Indian Lake State Park which was voted the best state park in Ohio! Indian Lake also offers bike and walking paths, nature preserves, boat ramps, playgrounds, kayak launches, parks with shelter houses, beaches with sand volleyball, and so much more. Our local businesses complement the fun of the lake with boat and jet ski rentals, cottage rentals, waterfront dining, live entertainment, and tours. Making Indian Lake a true destination. There are plenty of options to buy everything here from boats to fishing gear, an ice cream cone to a surf and turf dinner and much more. If you want it, chances are you can find it here. The Indian Lake Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Annual Legislative Luncheon on the second Friday of February each year. At this luncheon numerous governmental, community, and business leaders are in attendance. Speakers usually include ODNR Representatives, Representatives from the State of Ohio including Senators, State House Representatives, U.S. Congressmen, and representatives from ODOT District 7. The Indian Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is a proud co-sponsor of the Indian Lake Boat Show. The Annual Boat Show, organized by the Indian Lake Marine Dealers Association, attracts thousands of people each year. The show is held on the first full weekend in March. The U.S. Coast Guard and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Watercraft will be on hand to answer your boating questions. Spend-A-Day Marina, Indian Lake Marine, and Bud’s Marine all take part in the Indian Lake Boat Show.

CABIN FEVER STEAK FRY APRIL 2, 2022

Kick off the season at Indian Lake with the Cabin Fever Steak Fry. Held on the first Saturday of April, join us for a steak dinner, auction, 50/50 drawing, and entertainment. For more information call the chamber at (937)843-5392. All proceeds go to the Fireworks Fund.

3RD ANNUAL INDIAN LAKE CANCER 5K OF COURAGE, STRENGTH AND CURE JUNE 4, 2022

The Indian Lake Cancer 5K Walk & Fun Run of Courage, Strength and Cure is an event that is not only fun, but is also for an amazing cause. The 5K Run will start at 8:00AM and the walk will start at 9:00PM all starting at Old Field Beach. The registration fee is $25 which will include; a t-shirt, water and goodie bag. All proceeds will benefit Logan County Cancer Patients! You can register for this event at Miller Graphics or online at ilcancer5k2022.itemorder.com

LIGHT UP THE LAKE & CAR SHOW JULY 2, 2022

Bring the family to Old Field Beach for a day filled with Independence Day annual car show, food, swimming, games and more. Stay for our famous fireworks starting at 10:00PM. Registration for the car show is from 10:00AM–1:00PM with awards at 3:00PM. Registration is $10 and dash plaques will be awarded for the first 50 participants. Door prizes will also be provided. Help us mark the beginning of autumn with Ring of Fire. Inspired by an American Indian tradition, Indian Lake has been celebrating Ring of Fire since our amusement park days. Volunteers and homeowners place flares around the 5,800 acre lake to create the ring of fire. Flares are available at businesses from around the lake starting three weeks before the event. DISCOVER THINGS TO DO

BOATING

The 5,800 acre Indian Lake offers a variety of recreational boating options: jet skiing, water skiing, and tubing. Visitors have access to four state boat ramps at Chippewa Park, Lakeview Harbor, Blackhawk Marina, and Moundwood. There are also several privately owned ramps including those at Acheson’s Resort, Turkeyfoot Boat Docks, Indian Lake Shores and Waterbury. Indian Lake State Park has 530 docks available for seasonal rental plus transient docks scattered around the lake shore. For information call the state park office at (937)843-2717. Bud’s Marine, Indian Lake Marine, and Spend-A-Day Marina are located around the lake to serve your boating needs.

FISHING & HUNTING

Indian Lake is a great spot for fishing as there are many different species of fish you will find here. Being “One of the best lakes in Ohio,” there are many areas that you are able to fish on and off the lake. Fishing access can be found at the following locations on land or by water: The Indian Lake State Park, Pew Island, Fox Island, Old Field Beach (toward the ends), along 366 near the Spillway, and anywhere along the bike path. Hunting is permitted in designated areas only with an up to date license.

SWIMMING

Swimming can take place in the following areas which are also found in the centerfold map: Fox Island, Old Field Beach, and any area that is dedicated as a boat swimming area including near Hermit Island and the Walnut Islands.

CAMPING

Indian Lake has many different privately operated campgrounds as well as a public campground which is located at the Indian Lake State Park. With 456 sites, 35 electric hookups and much more, camping is a must at Indian Lake. Under the campgrounds listing, you will find all of the different campgrounds and everything that they can provide you with.

PICNICKING

There are many areas where you can enjoy and picnic with a view of the beautiful lake whether it be under one of Indian Lake’s grand old trees or a table under one of the many shelters placed around the lake. You are able to find these shelters at Old Field Beach, Blackhawk, Fox Island, and Moundwood. In the Winter there are many things that you can do around Indian Lake such as snowmobiling, ice skating, and ice fishing!

TRAILS & BIKEWAYS

LOCAL INTERESTS RECREATION MARMON VALLEY FARMS Enjoy a day in Zanesfield, Ohio, about 30 minutes from Indian Lake where you can enjoy farm-styled recreation. This includes horseback riding, animal petting, hay rides and so much more. JOHN & MARY RUDOLPH NATURE AREA Experience the beauty of nature right here in Russells Point. Fifty-three acres of wetlands, wildflowers, birds and butterflies. Take any of the more than 3 miles of trails and spend an afternoon exploring. Benches are scattered along the trails and there is a kayak drop–in along the Great Miami River. INDIAN LAKE YACHT CLUB Join the Indian Lake Yacht Club and experience a sense of membership and fun all–in–one. This club hosts sailboat races throughout the summer and provides opportunity for those of all levels interested in sailing to join. MAD RIVER MOUNTAIN Get your skis and snowboarding gear out and enjoy a fun day on the slopes at Mad River Mountain. Located in Zanesfield, Ohio, the mountain allows people of all ages to enjoy themselves offering tubing, skiing, snowboarding and so much more! TP BOWLING LANES Located in Bellefontaine, Ohio, about 20 minutes from Indian Lake. Enjoy a night of bowling with family and friends. ARMSTRONG AIR AND SPACE MUSEUM www.armstrongmuseum.org Designed to resemble a moon base with airplanes, a space craft, spacesuits and lunar rocks.

DUNNS POND INDIAN MOUND Open from dawn to dusk. Located at the corner of Mound and Mohawk Streets in the Moundwood Allotment. The mound was built by the people of the Hopewell culture. Possibly 24 mounds once existed around Indian Lake. The Dunns Pond Mound is one of two or three still visible.

LOGAN COUNTY HISTORY CENTER www.loganhistory.org Contained in the 1906 Orr Mansion and featuring the Logan County Transportation Museum. Exhibits dedicated to Logan County life include schools, military service, homemaking, Indian tribes, famous Logan Countians, farming and family rooms containing period furnishings. INDIAN LAKE HISTORY MUSEUM By appointment only during winter months. Open Saturdays from Memorial Day–Labor Day. Everything Indian Lake from postcards, photographs and boat motors to a Ferris wheel and its ticket booth. HONDA HERITAGE CENTER www.hondaheritagecenter.com Interactive exhibits and innovations from the Honda jet, to the '83 Accord and a skeleton Asimo robot.

HISTORIC BUILDINGS MAC-A-CHEEK CASTLE www.piattcastle.org Explore 200 years of the Piatt Family in this limestone castle built in the Norman French style. Each room contains artifacts from decades of the family's life. ORCHARD ISLAND POST OFFICE The Post Office served Orchard Island from 1912 to 1926. The restored building contains postal equipment and furnishings of the period. Situated within Indian Lake State Park, the Post Office is surrounded by trees and flowers with benches for enjoying this beautiful part of Indian Lake. HOLLAND THEATER www.theHollandTheater.com Walk down a Dutch street as you find your seat in the Holland Theater located in Downtown Bellefontaine. Built in 1931 to make going to the movies a special event. Visitors can enjoy moving windmills in addition to the show.

BICKHAM AND MCCOLLY COVERED BRIDGES The Bickham bridge was built in 1877 over the south fork of the Great Miami River. The McColly bridge was built in 1876 over the Great Miami River. Both are still in use today. The Bickham bridge is at the intersection of County Road 98 and County Road 38 near Buds Marine. The McColly bridge is on County Road 13 off State Route 235 South. SANDY BEACH BRIDGE The Sandy Beach Bridge, built in 1924–1925. It served as a pedestrian walkway over the harbor to connect the amusement parks on either side. Today, the Sandy Beach Bridge connects the walkways and monuments relating to the history of Indian Lake. OUR LADY OF FATIMA Erected in 1963 by Mr. George Quatman and the American Society of Ephesus. Standing forty feet tall, Our Lady welcomes boaters to Russells Point Harbor.

NATURAL WONDERS OHIO CAVERNS www.ohiocaverns.com Known as the largest cave system in Ohio, the Ohio Caverns stays a constant 54 degrees year–round. Explore the caverns with tours for everyone including those with limited mobility. The Crystal King at Ohio Caverns is the largest and most perfectly formed stalactite found in any cave. CEDAR BOG www.cedarbog.org Boasting the best boardwalk trail in Ohio, Cedar Bog is a glacial remnant left behind by the retreating Wisconsin Glaciation about 12,000–18,000 years ago. Rare and endangered plants and animals inhabit the fen. Boardwalks extend throughout the fen for the safety of visitors and the protection of the wild things.

FRIENDS SERVING FRIENDS

Friends Serving Friends, a nonprofit organization, was established at Indian Lake over 36 years ago. Local business owners saw a need and started out very informally. They first started with a community member sponsored holiday dinner which was free to the public. The concept of the dinner mirrored those held all over the country. The dinner had toys for the children, a visit from Santa Claus, an afternoon of entertainment, and a host of volunteers to serve. The food, toys and time were donated by many businesses and area residents. The founders have since passed, but the organization continues to grow. Besides having the dinner, Friends Serving Friends now aids those in need. The assistance has come in many forms: scholarships to Indian Lake students,

gift cards for gas or groceries, payments directly to utility companies for those with disconnected service, and collecting clothing and furniture for those displaced due to circumstances beyond their control. Friends Serving Friends primary fundraising comes from monetary donations and the annual golf outing. They continue to grow each year thanks to the generosity of the Indian Lake Community. In 2019, the contributions were approximately $25,000 to the community. The Holiday Dinner hosted by Friends Serving Friends is Saturday, December 11, 2022 and the Golf Outing is June 26, 2022. JR MEMORIAL CRUISE FOR A CURE The JR Memorial Cruise for a Cure at Indian Lake raises money to fight cancer in the name of the late Jerry Richardson. Jerry was a long- time resident of the Indian Lake community and was taken far too soon in 2013 due to a malignant brain tumor. Since then a team of Indian Lake residents and volunteers have teamed with the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer to try and help find a cure for this awful disease.

Our event is held at Indian Lake every year in June. This year our date is June 18, 2022. We start off with a short bar crawl to local establishments and then at 4:00PM we host a silent auction, live auction, a 50/50, fantastic live music, Rooster’s Food Truck and spirits presented by Coors Light, Simple Times Mixers and Buckeye Vodka. This year have acoustic music as our opener and Shucking Bubba Deluxe takes the stage from 8:00–11:00PM. The Ohio State University Alumni Band will also be joining us again this year. We also invite several former Buckeye athletes to join in on the fun and help us to raise money for cancer research. In 2021 we donated $400,320 to the Urban & Shelley Meyer Fund for Cancer Research and the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer. This brings our nine-year total to over $1.4 million! We have also donated to the Chamber’s fireworks fund, the Russells Point Police Dept and The Alliance for Community Partnerships of Logan County. We continue to look for support, sponsorships and volunteers for our event and are always striving to improve upon what we have already accomplished. We will not stop until we hear the words “We have found a cure for cancer.”

The Transient (overnight) Dock Program allows park visitors without seasonal docks to have extended dock privileges up to 14 days in a 30 day period at our temporary docking facilities.

We are a nonprofit all volunteer group dedicated to keeping Indian Lake safe and clean! Stranded on the lake? Need a tow or assistance? We have 2 full-time people on the lake and more available on weekends. You can message us on Facebook or call/text the numbers below for assistance! We also monitor channels 16 & 68 on the marine radio.

MAKING A RESERVATION: Permits are issued by reservation only and can only be made by calling the Park Office during business hours Monday–Friday, 8:00AM–4:00PM. We do not take answering machine reservations. Reservations can be made via credit card. Permits are limited per day and only 12 will be assigned to a specific area. This permit guarantees you a specific dock or tie-up in these areas. Permits expire at 4:00PM. After that time your watercraft cannot be tied in any public dock space until the following day in which the 4-hour limit will take effect. This permit is for docking purpose only. A POWERFUL FORCE FOR INDIAN LAKE The ILDC (originally formed as the Indian Lake Development Corporation) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization of residents, friends, and supporters of Indian Lake. Formed in 1983, ILDC’s mission was then, and remains so today, to lobby officials in the state government for funds to improve Indian Lake State Park. Over the past decades, ILDC has successfully lobbied the State of Ohio for funding for the development of Old Field Beach, construction of modern rest rooms, purchase of additional land for parks, acquisition of dredge barges, drag line equipment, track hoe, construction of bike paths, acquisition of a weed/grass harvester, and the continuation of tree replacement and water bags. Over the past two years, ILDC chose to undertake the largest and most expensive project in its 37+ year history to bring our community together with inspired, inclusive play. The $300,000 Fox Island Playground Project (Play at the Lake!) is a playground for all children and incorporates ADAcompliant equipment for children and caregivers with disabilities. ILDC raised funds and applied for grants to purchase and install this playground at Fox Island. The Department of Natural Resources has also agreed to build an ADA-compliant restroom facility near the playground as well. This summer, ILDC will be constructing a handicap accessible ramp into the water at the Fox Island beach. In more recent years, ILDC also completed purchase of playground equipment at Chippewa Park, installation of a disc golf course at Old Field Beach, and an

ADA-compliant dock at the Russells Point Harbor along with improvements to the multi-purpose building at the campgrounds, in addition to a host of other projects around the lake. To assist in raising funds for projects like these, the ILDC hosts the annual Maple Syrup Festival and Pancake Breakfast in March and the annual Fall Festival each September at the Indian Lake State Park Campground. Membership dues are also an important contribution to ILDC projects.

THE ILDC HOSTS THE ANNUAL MAPLE SYRUP FESTIVAL & PANCAKE BREAKFAST AND THE ANNUAL FALL FESTIVAL. Annual membership dues are extremely affordable at ONLY $15 per family! The ILDC meets the third Wednesday of each month except December at the Indian Lake State Park multi-purpose building at the campgrounds and all are welcome to attend. Members provide input toward project selection and funding. Prepare yourself for a fabulous evening of songs, stories and banter from our Nashville Hitmakers Hall Of Fame lineup. In the past 9 years we’ve brought more than 30 of the best songwriters from Music City to Indian Lake, and this year’s Anniversary Show will see another stage full of incredible talent in concert for you.

INDIAN LAKE WATERSHED PROJECT With great water quality comes an abundance of plant life. 2021 started off with an early spring with crystal clear, healthy water. No one was prepared for the massive amounts of weeds last year. Indian Lake has never faced a problem like this before, so there were no programs in place to catch up with how fast the weeds spread. On the bright side, only a healthy environment can support this amount of plant life. The lake is not dying and not facing an ecological problem.

BY WORKING TOGETHER, WE CAN KEEP THE LAKE OPEN AND THE WATERS NAVIGABLE. The only methods to battle the weeds in 2021 were the ILWP weed harvester, the “Lake Raker”, chemical spraying and manually removing the weeds. There are pros and cons to each method. The weed harvester does a great job cutting the weeds and removing them from the lake, but it is hard to keep constantly running due to equipment breakdowns and manpower. Chemical herbicide

application has an immediate result! It kills all plant life it touches. This treatment is costly to individual homeowners and killing all the plant life also makes nutrients available for bacterial blue green algae. Over application can create Toxic Algae Blooms. Manual removal of weeds around boat docks and personal beaches, by hand or with a rake, can be the most effective. The amount of time and physical labor it takes to remove the weeds can make it difficult for some to do on their own.

In 2022, the Indian Lake Watershed Project, Ohio Department of Natural Resources and private contractors are all working together to provide more weed control. The ILWP purchased a brand-new weed harvester that will pull the weeds out by the roots instead of cutting them like a mower. This brings the ILWP fleet of weed harvesters up to two! ODNR is building a new harvester and barge that will operate on Indian Lake. Local contractors are inventing their own ways and equipment to remove the weeds. By working together, we can keep the lake open and the waters navigable. More research is needed on how to slow down the weeds. This is the beginning of the process. There is a lot to do and the ILWP will be here, working on it.

SANDY BEACH BRIDGE ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING DECEMBER 4, 2022

The Sandy Beach Bridge and the William and Marjorie Reed Walkway are iconic landmarks for the Indian Lake community. The bridge was constructed in 1924 to connect the amusements parks on either side of the harbor. "Millions of people have traveled over the bridge and hundreds of thousands under it" (according to the late Bob MacDonald). The bridge is open to foot traffic April–October.

ORCHARD ISLAND POST OFFICE POST OFFICE OPEN HOUSE JUNE 27, 2022

The Post Office served Orchard Island from 1912 to 1926. In 2004 the Wicker Family donated the building to the ILAHS and relocated it to Post Office Island. In 2016 the building was restored by community volunteers even to period furnishings. Currently the ILAHS is working to get the Post Office on both the Ohio and National Registers of Historic Places. DUNN'S POND MOUND

OPEN DAYLIGHT HOURS YEAR ROUND Located at the corner of Mohawk and Mound Streets in the Moundwood allotment. This conical mound is a prehistoric Native American burial mound, likely the only survivor of a group of fifteen identified by William Mills in 1914. The mound was constructed 2000 to 2500 years ago by either the Glacial Kame or Hopewell cultures.

LIGHT UP THE LAKE 2022 For decades, Indian Lake has made our Annual 4th of July Fireworks Show one that attracts hundreds of people from all over Ohio. In the past year, we hosted the largest fireworks displays in Ohio all thanks to RV Wholesalers, numerous sponsors, our amazing community and Pyrotecnico. The goal of continuing to improve the show was met last year and we are excited to raise the expectations for this year. Indian Lake is dedicated to expanding our show year after year in honor of our great country as well as our amazing community. As we continue pushing ourselves to provide a “WOW” experience for all of you, the men behind RV Wholesalers are excited to do the same. We sat down with them and talked about what the fireworks mean to them and here is some of what they had to say…

For Mike, he said there are a couple reasons these fireworks are so special to him. He stated, “We grew up here and are from here. We have a lot of pride in the area and I know the people that live here have a lot of pride as well. We want to bring in more people to help this area expand. For me, it is giving back because why shouldn’t Indian Lake have the best fireworks in Ohio?" We are excited to announce that 2022 Light Up The Lake will be put on display by Pyrotecnico once again.

Pyrotecnico is a company based out of New Castle, Pennsylvania and has been in business since 1889. Last year, they were able to put on the widest and largest fireworks display Indian Lake has ever seen and are excited to make it even more spectacular this year. Keeping in mind the 25 MPH speed limit. • The following access points from US 33 to Main Street will be closed only as long as necessary to quickly move both incoming and outgoing traffic at the conclusion of the fireworks display:

Intersections through Russells Point are closed due to the fact they can only handle 1-2 vehicles before obstructing traffic flow. INDIAN LAKE SCHOOLS ENSURING THAT EVERY CHILD IS ABLE TO EXCEL AT LEARNING IN PERSON AND ONLINE.

Over the past year, we have use our Covid-19 relief money to purchase brand new Chromebooks for every student in the district. This 1:1 initiative, coupled with smart TV technology upgrades in every classroom, helps teachers offer and students experience enhanced education using online platforms. We continue to teach our entire Indian Lake staff and student body The R-Factor. This program is used by Ohio State University Football coaches and emphasizes “event plus reaction equals outcome.” We stress the idea that you control your own reaction to events in your life. Our goal is to set students on a course for being an enrolled, enlisted or employed, but always engaged member of their community. In addition, Indian Lake Schools has received a competitive 21st Century federal grant worth $850,000 over

the next few years. The grant program is called Careers@IL. At ILHS, the program extends after school tutoring for reading and math, supports extension education in those subjects through the ILHS Science Club, ILHS Art Club and ILHS Welding and Carpentry Club and supports an E-Sports Club and other wellness activities. The same grant covers after school tutoring at ILMS and will help fund the construction of a boardwalk to easily access the wetland area behind Indian Lake Elementary School for study by students in all grade levels. The Indian Lake Local Schools campus is located just a few miles south of the lake, on State Route 235, along the path of the Great Miami River. Our student body totals 1,500 students from kindergarten through grade 12. We house a Head Start program,

through the Miami County Council on Rural Services, that educates qualified preschool-age children. As a district, we are large enough to offer a variety of rigorous academic programs, as well as athletic challenges, top notch music and art opportunities and service/ leadership organizations. Even with all this, we are small enough to care for students with the limited group and one-on-one instruction necessary to build strong educational foundations. Brown brought this idea from Buckeye Lake State Park where he had been park manager. The custom originated many years ago at Seneca Lake in New York State by the Seneca Indians when they celebrated a successful harvest by lighting bonfires on the shores of the lake. In years past, the red flare event signified the end of the Summer season, but now it is the way to greet the fall and winter season’s activities. Because of the influx of more year-round business, working, and professional residents, Indian Lake has a growing population. They contribute to the local economic growth of the area but also reap the benefits of living in a community where they enjoy the environment supplies by the lake and its many recreational facilities. This year, 8,000 LED flares have been distributed to merchant and resort owners to sell. LED flares are more sustainable, environmentally friendly, and economically better for the Indian Lake Area and have received raving reviews of their use. They can be purchased at Aries Pharmacy, Buds Marine, Spend-A-Day Marina, Choice Properties, Community Markets, Cranberry Resort, Framing by Fuller, Hurley Farms, Lakeside Pro Bass, Lakeview Discount Grocery, Lakeview Hardware, Winner’s Markets, and the Indian Lake Chamber office. At 8:30PM on September 4th, the Grimes Experimental Plane, our of Urbana, will fly over the lake with its myriad

of colored lights, kicking off the “Ring of Fire.” At 9:00PM sharp, flares will be turned on and a beautiful sight will take place. It is indeed a beautiful sight when the thousands of flares are lit simultaneously, casting a red glow on the waters of Indian Lake. Last year, a fireworks show was on display by Pyrotecnico. With the help of many sponsors and donations, a fireworks display will be taking place again this year in honor of the beautiful event and greeting the fall and winter seasons. Starting at 9:30PM the fireworks display will start at take place for approximately 15 minutes. Many people will get on their boats to take in the full experience of how amazing this event is and to view the fireworks display in prime location. Take in the beautiful scenery of this event, reflect on the Summer and walk into a fresh Fall and Winter with us. You can be a part of it too! The whole area from the spillway, bike path, Fox Island and Old Field Beach is where the Indian Lake High School Key Club set out and turn on flares that evening. Dating back to 1965, when Warren Edwards was president of the Indian Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, board members A.M. Brown, Manager of the Amusement Park, presented the idea of a “red flare spectacular.” He suggested that the Chamber sell the flares to the residents and visitors of the lake. FISHING AT THE LAKE

Indian Lake offers an extensive variety of fishing for all anglers of every skill level. From small children learning how to catch their first fish, to experienced finesse fisherman using different methods to lure in three species of bass along with some of Ohio’s best Saugeye. Indian Lake has seen rapid growth in trophy-sized shovel/flathead catfish. Indian Lake has over a dozen State Park areas open for public fishing with over four continuous miles along South and West bank between Russell’s Point and Lakeview on to Oldfield Beach. The area is home to three great, local tackle shops, that can be found evenly spaced around the lake.

Species-specific tournaments such as bass, club, and catfish are held almost every weekend from late Spring through late Fall. This includes our annual local tournaments. Dates are often released by February of that year. Please remember to obey all Ohio rules and regulations regarding limit, size, harvesting, etc. of any fish caught.
