This is the process of choosing to deprive yourself of food for a period of time. The first thing you need to recognize is that your metabolism isn’t going to crash. This is just misinformation. Your metabolism will go at the same speed whether you’re eating or fasting. Your body requires so many calories to function and that’s not going to change regardless of fasting. Another one of the health benefits of fasting is that helps lower your insulin levels. The problem with a lot of people is that they live in a high insulin state all the time. They never give their insulin a break and that is the point of fasting. When you fast, your insulin drops and this gives your body a chance to start metabolizing fat, so you can actually lose weight. The health benefits of fasting are pretty amazing because they actually encourage the promotion of fat burning over consumption of lean body mass. I was told that if I didn’t eat every few hours that I would lose muscle, which is totally false. When your insulin goes down, your body will balance things out by consuming fat.
