Mise-en-scene in Green Street

In this long shot we see the clear characters that will be appearing throughout the film. The lighting is natural and quite dark which connotes that something bad could be about to happen. The costumes being worn show that they are from a working class background. The way the men are stood in a open and strong gesture show the theme of power. The male’s wearing a cap show that they may be trying to hide their identity as they look like they are about to fight with the other men. This establishes a theme of poverty as the males are in cheap, tatty clothing comparing it to people that commute around London who wear suits. In the background of this shot we see posters up on the wall, this shows that the area is quite run down and people have little respect for the area and like to vandalise.

In this establishing shot we get a clear idea of what the location is like and the era it would be set in. In this shot we see that the scene is set in a British train platform. We can see that it is dark outside and this creates an eerie atmosphere for the audience as the colour pallet is quite dull and very grey. They use found lighting as this is what we would see and nothing has been added to the mis-en-scene, and they use locations which already exist which creates verisimilitude In this shot we get the idea that it will be characters that are adults who hang around places to cause trouble. From this we get the idea that most people in this region use the underground to get around, which shows the theme of culture as this is very typical in the British Region.

In this low angle shot we see the stairway coming from the train station. The jump cut from them standing arguing at the platform to this shot leaves the audience to wonder what happened in between that. This shot shows us the location and the found lighting that has been used. Again we see the time of the shot and that it was mainly done at night which makes it more tense for the audience to watch. We see a big red box that is actually a telephone box, this would only be seen in Britain as it is a convention of British culture. This shot also establishes the theme as we see the man violently jump on top of the man laying on the phone box. This shows the theme of violence very well as the actors performance clearly shows he's anger and aggression towards the other actor in this scene

Editing in Kidulthood

In this close up we see a shot of a boys feet who is playing football on a muddy field. This shot creates enigma as an audience because we want to know where they are and who's playing football. The editing in the shot makes it seem like they are playing in slow motion as the pace seen in this shot is every slow and the shot is exaggerated by doing this. In this shot we don’t see much editing as it goes from looking at he's feet to looking at other people in the playground, this shows the continuity editing that is typically found in most films especially British social realist films . In this shot we see the theme of sport which is also seen in Trainspotting, this could also show a theme of success and maybe even aspiration as they may want to become a pro footballer.

In this long shot we are introduced to more of the characters. This shot has a different saturation compared to the previous shots, this shows that maybe it’s a more positive view of Britain. The fast pace that is used makes it seem like we are there and witnessing what's going on, and this fits to the convention of having simple yet messy camera work. In this shot its seems like we are peeping through and watching the action instead of us just seeing it on screen this is a good way of making the audience feel more involved. This camera work shows the theme of childhood, as we can clearly see the costumes worn by all the characters which are basic school uniform of a high school (not a private school).

In this shot we see two types of editing. We first see a shot reverse shot which shows us that the two males are in conversation with each other. We also see a over the shoulder shot which gives the audience a main focus on the persons facial expression and how they are reacting to what they're saying. The editing used between this was hardly noticeable which shows that the use of continuity editing is done very well. In this opening scene we rarely see any fades or any noticeable cuts which means the editing is done very well to make all of the shots flow and like it had all been shot in one go. This shot had a slow pace as we wanted to be able to focus on the intimidated face the young boy was pulling at the teacher which shows he's authority over the teachers at his school. This establishes the theme of bullying as we see the young boy even bullying a teacher just by looking at him. This shot also shows the theme of adulthood and childhood as we can clearly see a older character who is meant to have power over the students and the young boy who is meant to follow the teachers rules, however this is turned around and the roles are reversed.

Camera Language in the Iron Lady

In this mid shot we get to see the facial expression of the lady buying the milk, and we also get to see part of her body language. The way the woman is looking down shows that there is something that has caught her eye and is making her look. The way this shot is framed with her to the left and a deep focus is used shows that she may be quite an outsider. We can see this through the way she looks at other people and how she is to the very edge of the shot but the rule of thirds is still used.. The mid shot that first introduces the female character is the same shot for 10 seconds, this also gets the audience a chance to establish what the setting is like as they can clearly see the shop in the background. This location is typical in the British region as there is a stereotype that all corner shops are run by Asians, this shows the theme of racism as she looks in disgust at the newspaper which is shown through a close up and says about “terrorism�

In this extreme long shot we see a clear location which also sets the era as a film. In this shot the lady is made to seem very small and weak and she is framed to the right of the shot and a pan is used to follow the action. A long shot is used to show the characters clothing and body language, from this we can see that the lady is wearing a long over coat with a silk scarf wrapped around her head. This shows that she may be more well off and the setting around her shows the theme of poverty because of the rubbish left on the street corners and the old fashioned, run down shops. This shot creates some enigma as we cannot see much of the character apart from what she is wearing, this makes us question why she is in that area and why she is walking around on her own if she is meant to be seen as wealthy.

In this long shot we see the woman stood with her arms behind her back. She is framed to the far left of the shot so we can see all of the setting behind her. This shot shows us the expensive stuff the woman owns for example the chair with the gold around it, and the chandelier. This all go’s against the theme of poverty which isn't very typical of British Social realist films as we would normally see minimal furniture and if there was any it would be very tatty and cheap. This also focuses on what the lady is wearing which fits with what we see in the background(her house) as it is very elegant and shows her wealth.
