From the POTE Illustrious Sir Tom Richardson
I am honored and excited to serve the Nobility of El Katif as Potentate for the year 2017. Thank you! Lady Cheryl and I are planning a fun year with a few conventional events and some unique ones too, for all Nobles and their Ladies. In our travels over the past eight years we have had the opportunity to become very close to all of you. This is not just El Katif, but a close-knit El Katif family to both of us. The year will be a busy one, so let’s start the ride by “Giddy Up Go! Takin’ Care of Business.” We will begin the month with the Installation of Officers on January 4th and a reception to follow including the Noble’s Ladies. Moving on to January 21st, which is an all day event, beginning with the Seminar for the Club and Unit officers of El Katif, as well as any members who wish to join in; followed by the Potentate’s Ball in the evening. The morning will start at 8:00 AM with a hosted Continental Breakfast for all Nobles. Promptly at 9:00 AM the Seminar will get underway and down to business with our presentations. We’re looking to be finished around noon so the Nobles and Ladies may go to lunch, shopping, or just relax until the fun evening begins. At 5:30 PM the Potentate’s Ball activities will get rolling into action with a no host social, dinner to be served at 7:00 PM. Following the dinner we will take care of the business of introductions, swearing in of all officers, clubs and units, and honoring Illustrious Sir John and Lady Bridget for their work in 2016. At 9:00 PM the business will be over and it will be time to remove our fez. Enjoy listening to the music of “Dusty Klink and Nobody Famous” and kicking up your dancing heels. All activities for the day will be at the Red Lion at the Park. Your RSVP’s must be made no later than January 11th to be able to give the hotel a correct head count for breakfast and dinner. Some scheduled events this year are Ladies Project Sale on March 25 and 26th, Hot Sands April 29th, Freedom Raffle on July 22nd, Duck Race on September 24th, Wine and Brew Tasting on October 7th, Sportsman Auction on October 28th, and the El Katif Christmas Party on December 16th. Cheryl and I are hoping to plan a mini trip, more info to come on this. Our big trip will be full of fun as we head to Branson, Missouri, on October 9th through the 15th. We will be setting up a presentation in the near future, keep an eye out in the Word. So, you can see, we are going to ride with fun but work hard! Giddy Up Go! Takin’ Care of Business. Fraternally, Tom Richardson 1

The Recorder’s Ramblings... Ill Sir Jay Smith, PP
Nobles and Ladies, Well, here we are moving into a New Year of 2017. As of the December elections you, as Nobles, have elected a new Potentate and Board of Directors along with three Imperial Representatives to represent you at Daytona Beach, Florida at our Imperial Session in July. As Potentate you elected Tom Richardson; Chief Rabban – Jim Stewart; Assistant Rabban – Jon Lind; High Priest and Prophet – Dave Campanella; Oriental Guide – Roger Nelson; Treasurer – Kurt Kimberling; and Recorder – Jay Smith. After Tom’s Installation he will announce his appointed Divan and Staff. You will be seeing five new faces on the Divan coming aboard. Tom’s choices are fantastic, but “OH” it’s a surprise! I will tell you that Tom chose qualified people that know how to have fun and show lots of excitement. I am really looking forward to a fun year in 2017. There are just a few things that I would like to bring to your attention about January. On January 21st Illustrious Sir Tom and Lady Cheryl are hosting our annual Seminar and Potentate’s Ball at the Red Lion Hotel at the Park. The morning of the 21st starts off with a hosted continental breakfast, which will start off around 8:00 a.m. There will be a Bloody Mary Bar open for your convenience if anyone wishes to purchase one. Nobles, please RSVP to the office if you are going to attend the breakfast and Seminar. We need a food count to tell the hotel. This is very important. The Seminar will get started promptly at 9:00 a.m. Illustrious Sir Tom has a schedule to stay on pretty much all day. The Seminar should conclude before or around noon. This is where all of you Nobles have free time to do whatever you wish. Lunch is on your own. As we move into the evening activities we will start with a 5:30 p.m. no host bar and hospitality in the Riverfront Ballroom. At approximately 6:30 we will be forming the corridor to start off the evening’s events. Then to top the evening off, we will be dancing to Country Western Music by our own “Dusty Klink and Nobody Famous”. Nobles, it is very important to RSVP to the Shrine Office as soon as possible. In doing so, please tell us how many will attend and your choice of meal, which is Oak Grilled Prime New York Steak or Grilled Jumbo Shrimp with Sweet Pepper Saffron Sauce. Your choice for only $35.00 per person. Also, for those wishing to stay at the hotel, Tom and Cheryl have a special Shrine room rate of $105.00 plus tax. Just ask for the Shrine rate. This rate will be honored until January 11th. I can’t say this enough – prompt RSVP’s will be very much appreciated! So, as Illustrious Sir Tom would say, “Giddy Up Go” and “Takin’ Care of Business”. Illustrious Sir Jay Smith P.P. Recorder
Tom Felton Where did 2016 go? It seemed to fly by and right into 2017 - never thought I would see it. We now have a new Potentate Illustrious Sir Tom Richardson and we are moving into a new Shrine year. Let’s us support Illustrious Sir Tom all we can. Really enjoyed the Club/Unit Awards Party. It was great to have the Ladies there as it added a sense of pride for the Nobles that won awards. Congratulations to all for a job well done through hard work in 2016 for El Katif Shrine. I was asked by the Commander of the Legion of Honor, Jerry Gendreau, to conduct a Memorial for our members who have passed away. I was disturbed because I realized how little I knew about people I considered my good friends. Commander Jerry has asked everyone in the Legion of Honor to fill out and give him a brief biography of themselves. He is attempting to learn more about our comrade in arms, so that we are more knowledgeable about our Legion of Honor members. Good job Commander Jerry! Nobles and Ladies, I wish you all a good and happy 2017 and may God bless and keep you safe.

Kurt Kimberling, PP Reporter Happy New Years!! I hope everybody had a great Holiday with lots of family, friends, multiple Christmas Parties and becoming enveloped in the Spirit of the Season! Speaking of Christmas Parties, we had ours at the property and it was well attended. Lots of fun and fellowship was shared especially prior to the dinner which, by the way was great. The new officers for the ensuing year were sworn in by IS John using our time honored traditional ritual. Our new President is Jim Tourtillotte. Jim has a lot of experience at this position and he will be bringing lots of experience with him to the table. Jim spoke eloquently about the Moonies and our accomplishments during the past year. Just a quick highlight: Major Contribution to the new EOS Machine for the Hospital, purchase of Motivational Books for the Staff, Hardware/software, lanyards, and the ever popular
Shrine Hospital pins. We could not have accomplished this without the dedication of our members and their friends and families. Jim mentioned that this year he wants to do even more and have more fun doing it. He has some really exciting ideas that should be a real hoot. He also expressed that our monthly meetings will be family friendly dinners with wives and children invited and encouraged to participate. There will be a men’s only meeting after dinner. The monthly dinner will be supervised by a different member each month. January’s meeting will be Randy with a Western theme with Chicken and sausage etc. Put on your insulated cowboy duds and join us for some fun. February will be Kurt and Elaine’s opportunity to showcase Chili and the theme is ugly sweater/tie competition. There are lots of opportunities to excel. Get your reservation in to Mike ASAP. The next big activity will be the Potes Ball and Seminar at the Red Lion. (see the word advertisement/ details) Again, make your reservations soon for the best rates. Get in on the ground floor of what will be an exciting year. Hope to see you soon!
Spread the joy!
Ask someone you know to become a Shriner
Doug Warnock Reporter Blue Mt. Shrine Club’s December 9th meeting featured a Christmas party with Nobles and Ladies dressed in more formal attire than usual. The tables were decorated in Holiday fashion. Noble President Richard Coleman presided for his last meeting as club leader. Several Nobles and Ladies from neighboring Columbia Basin Shrine Club were in attendance. A tradition of Blue Mt. Shrine Club is to invite Shrine widows to this holiday gathering. Several widowed Shrine Ladies were introduced and each given a poinsettia to take home. Noble Jon Lind, Blue Mt. Club’s liaison, spoke on El Katif activities scheduled for December and January. Of special importance are the Shriners Seminar on January 21 and the Potentates Ball that evening. Both the seminar and evening festivities will be at the Red Lion Inn At The Park in Spokane. Noble Jon announced that our liaison for 2017 would be Noble David Campanella and his Lady Brenda. Noble David is widely known for his portrayal of President Abraham Lincoln at special programs and events. The Spokane Shriners Hospital administration is planning to add a cleft lip and palate clinic. To be able to do that, the hospital needs an addi-
tional building and is hoping to find one available near the present hospital site. Current out-patient treatments number 8,810, Noble Jon indicated. The fracture clinic is experiencing a 10 to 15% growth per month indicating the great need it is serving. Hospital services consistently receive a rating of 95 to 98%, out of 100, from patients and families, indicating the high quality of the treatment being provided. Noble Jon reminded us that all El Katif Shriners should be proud of what they do to support the hospital and keep it thriving. The officers and trustees for 2017 were officially installed by Noble Jon. Installed were the following Nobles: Gerald Taylor - President, Kent Osborne – 1st Vice President, and Al Conetto – Secretary Treasurer. Members of the Board of Trustees installed were Past President Richard Coleman, Fred Hair, Jack Largent, Joe McMichael and Doug Warnock. Noble President Gerald Taylor took the gavel and thanked Past President Richard for his good leadership, this last year. Noble President Gerald and Lady Carri Ann are looking forward to a busy and fun-filled year in 2017.

lunch to guests and hospital employees. Eleven LOS ladies cooked and served lunch to Nobles and their Ladies at the Ceremonial. This is one of our money-making projects for the year. The members of Ladies Oriental Shrine have been having fun and spreading joy in December. We started the month off with a bus trip to Leavenworth, Washington to shop, eat and attend the famous Leavenworth Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony. A great time was had by all in attendance. Our High Priestess Lady Peggy Wetmore gave an inspirational talk on Ladies Orietal Shrine to the ladies of new Nobles at the El Katif Fall Ceremonial on November 19, 2016 at the Shrine Center. She spoke on how LOS is dedicated in supporting our local Shriner’s Hospital for Children. Many of the LOS ladies volunteer their time during the week at the Hospital in different areas, such as working in the kitchen helping to serve
We had a great December meeting and celebrated the Christmas season with a very nice potluck and a money tree for the hospital. Our Clown Unit has been very busy doing face painting at Riverpark Square Mall, the Animals Christmas Party for kids and at the Learning Center. We welcome new member CHRIS ROTAS to our group. Remember those in need at this time of year, and all year with food for the food bank and clothing also. We need to keep them in our prayers for their wellbeing. Our meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month (except January) at the Millwood Masonic Center, located at 3219 North Argonne Road in beautiful downtown Millwood at 7 pm. BE A MEMBER AND WEAR THE WHITE FEZ.
El Karnak Temple No. 6 had a great year in 2016. Attendance at Stated meetings has been great and the officers have done a wonderful job with their parts! Our Supreme Queen visited El Karnak Temple in November and had a very busy schedule while she was here. She toured the Shriner’s Hospital for Children and met the staff. She was guest of honor for our Banquet on November 2nd. We had our Ceremonial and initiated new members into El Karnak Temple No. 6. El Karnak Temple was recognized in the spring with a plaque ceremony at the Shriner’s Hospital for contributions we have made with our time and monetary giving. We
have exceeded our goal on our moneymaking projects this year. We have had a very successful Community Yard Sale, Pasta Dinner and Bottle auction. Queen Jennifer Bockstruck has had a very rewarding year full of fun and memories, as we have helped make a difference for the Children of Shriner’s Hospital. It takes Teamwork to make a difference and this we have at El Karnak Temple No. 6, Daughters of the Nile. “Coming together is the beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is SUCCESS!” Thanks to Henry Ford for those great words! The January 14, 2017 and February 11, 2017 will be Saturday meetings and called a Family meeting with lunch before the stated meetings. Queen Jennifer and the members of El Karnak Temple No. 6, wish everyone a very Happy New Year 2017!
