Stripped of the preset rituals of “home”, the hotel room condition is one of potentially socially deviant expression. An opportunity for slovenliness, exhibitionism, the aptly-designed room can give rise to a truly individual experience. INVERTED ROOF & GREEN ROOF DETAIL

Variable-radius perforated, patinated copper screen is mounted on outrigger through mullion. Cap flashing, bitumen roofing membrane and roofing tiles constitute inverted roof. Cap flashing allows water to drain into green roof gutter. Aggregate drainage channel runs the perimeter of the green roof. Drop in elevation of green roof allows for flat reading of volume while accomodating taller plantings for ter rainwater retention. Engineered growing medium tops a sandwich of filtration mat and reservoir

1:20 Polycarbonate drop-ceiling conceals conduit and duct-work - lit from behind affords a diffuse space lighting. Polycarbonate panels also slot between the flanges of the steel column, conceling flourescent tube lighting and again producing diffuse lighting effects. Interior mural screen is mounted to steel outrigger, reducing light glare in the gallery space and allowing warm and cool air to vent through.
