DEAR READER Yay! We have finally shaken off the number 13, and for those of you who are sufficiently superstitious, this is surely reason enough to look forward with fresh vigour to 2014. The weather has been doing its best to rain us off and stop play, but we need only look at how much better off we in North Essex have been, compared to other parts of the country, to feel as if luck is indeed on our side this year. But we can’t complain yet of the cold. American weather might at times be a tad unpredictable and dramatic, but this year at least it has hurled us some warmth, mixed in with those storms, so we can only hope the temperatures will hold up for a bit longer. Of course the year will have its challenges, like any other year, but keep thinking positive thoughts and the rest will follow.
