Nell and I collaborated in all aspects of design. We divided and coquered by splitting equally our graphics, technical drawings, models, and renderings. By giving each other feedback throughout the semester, we had one of the best projects in our class.

Our approach for a structural system was based not only on our main concept of continuity, but also on the functionality of the system. After considering a pre-cast, in-situ and waffle concrete option, we went with the waffle slab in order to accomodate the system requirements and suspended ceiling design. Our structural system is based on a 30’x30’ column grid that fits with our 10’ waffle modules.

The MediaLab HTX organizes the building systems into two halves. The systems that are shared are located in the underground mechanical room that is located at the center of the building. The chillers, boilers, and AHU systems are connected to the core chases in the middle of each half. These chases run up to the level of each half, providing cooling and heating on each level.

My partner and I opted for a flexible, open dining space, with visual identity, and personal identification with the space to promote unification of the town.

During the 2012 tornadoes, Giovanni’s, the local eatery for West Liberty was destroyed. Inspired by a mosaic painted by local children along Main Street, the new Giovanni’s calls for a facade partially composed of 6” tiles and reclaimed bricks that speak to the local culture.

After Hurricane Karl hit my hometown in 2010, our studio design an emergency portable clinic that could potentially be used after natural disasters. With half of my class collaborating, we built “Medicube based on a thorough research on immediate care for patients in state of emergency after natural disasters.

The design intent for the renovation was to give the owners the opportunity to express themselves in their own home. By taking inspiration from both of their works and time we spent together, Brian and I proposed a modern-chic barn look that not only accomodates their immediate needs but their love for family visits and public gatherings.

ELISA PADILLA ARCHITECTS // owner + designer

Owner of mexican food chain restaurant “Los Giros”, Eduardo Nuño, requested a design proposal for a food court space at the new retail center in Boca del Rio. After researching the design requirements, code restrictions, and food preparation process, my proposal was in accordance with the client’s request for a broad menu prepared in an efficient kitchen area with the least amount of waste in food and time. It also took into consideration the marketing strategies already in place.

As a partnership with Collaborate Architects, the new LSC East Aldine Center focuses on teaching technical skills to students. Conformed by 3 wings with specialized classrooms such as welding and pipefitting, this satellite center is unique to its kind. My contribution was in its 3D interior views, DD, CD, VE, and FF&E phases, where I was in charge of the interior design with senior supervision.

During my internship at Barse Construction LLC, I was responsible for 4 residential homes from their design stage up to their closing with a net worth of $780,000.00 dollars. In addition, I assisted in the construction coordination and design of 15 residential houses and 1 commercial remodeling. Interaction with the company’s owner, clients, suppliers and construction workers was my daily job, as well as reviewing construction and architectural plans. Finally, I succesfully proposed an interior design project for a SPEC home.
