Computer Graphics Fall 2013

Guitar c

raft: All of the following Illustrations were created by Adobe Illustrator, I also used a Bamboo tablet and pen. I started off with a warm up, this warm up is to get used to the different drawing style you have to get aquatinted with in order to draw via computer. This consists of me writing my name in different brushes, styles, and sizes. After that started counting the number of lines. This is because the assignment was to create an illustration using only 100 straight lines. After that I experimented with different types of brush strokes. What I did was select all the lines in the illustration and select a different brush in the brush menu.

c

oncept: The point of these illustrations is to draw something that can hold a liquid. Almost everyone would be drawing pots and cups. I thought that it would be nice to think outside of the box and pick Somethings else other than cups and pans. A guitar is something that you normally would not put liquids into but this does not excuse the fact that it is capable of it, depending on the type of guitar and the brand.

C

omposition: There is no Particular way you should look at this illustration. What you’re supposed to do is imagine his guitar holding water.

Hand C

raft: This illustration was created with the same tools as the guitar: Adobe Illustrator, by a Bamboo Tablet and starting off with a signature warm up that covers the page. Then I started counting each line drawn. Finally after the illustration has been completed I experimented with different brush strokes.

C

oncept: This is another object that is capable of holding water. Before Humans had the capability of creating pots or containers to hold water, our hands were the only thing we had.

C

omposition: For this piece you will also have to imagine a person having thier hands cupped and filled with water.

Hookah C

raft: This illustration was created with the same tools as the guitar: Adobe Illustrator, by a Bamboo Tablet and starting off with a signature warm up that covers the page. Then I started counting each line drawn. Finally after the illustration has been completed I experimented with different brush strokes.

C

oncept: This is another object that is capable of holding water. There is a special compartment for the water. The purpose of the water is to cool the smoke for a smoother inhale.

C

omposition: For this piece there isn’t much to be left for the imagination. The third circular curve is where the water would be, there is a separate hose where the smoke comes out as well as another compartment where the tobacco is.

Canned Peaches C

raft: This illustration was created with: Adobe Illustrator, by a Bamboo Tablet and starting off with a signature warm up that covers the page. First I created the background gradient using different brush colors that went from light grey to what seems to be almost black. Then I focused on drawing the brightest parts of the can to the darkest. Finally, after the original drawing was finished I experimented with the color scheme

C

oncept: This is another object that is capable of holding water, but instead of holding water it originally held canned peaches. Now that the peaches are gone it is used for storage.

C

omposition: For this piece you must pay attention to the transition of the somewhat circular can and imagine it drawn in a realistic way.

raft: This illustration was created with: Adobe Illustrator, by a Bamboo Tablet and starting off with a signature warm up that covers the page. This was also created the same way as the previous illustration entitled canned fruit.

C

oncept: This is another object that is capable of holding water, it was originally meant for holding mango flavored greek yogurt.

C

omposition: The illustration was meant to be seen as a whole. You are also supposed to imagine a reall greek yogurt container and pay attention to how the light reflects off of it.

Pot C

raft: This picture was made using Adobe Illustrator CC as well as a bamboo tablet. For this illustration I used a pot and a desk lamp. First I set everything up, meaning the pot’s position and the way the light hit it. After that I opened Illustrator to warm up. Warm ups consist of me using different strokes in different colors to write my signature. After the warm ups I created the gradient background. To draw the pot I focused on the brightest section of the pot and moved to the darker shades.

C

omposition: What I see first in this image s the basic body of the pot because this is the area that has a more carious amount of shading. This is also the part that I look at the longest. From there I move to the inside of the pot, and finally the handle.

C

oncept: This is a pot, I chose it because it was an object that could contain water, and I liked the way the light bounced off if it, Because it didn’t create an excessive amount of reflection.

Coffee Cup C

raft: Illustrator CC was used for this assignment as well as a bamboo tablet and pen. First I looked for a picture of a coffee cup and uploaded it in Illustrator. After that I created several layers for the background, the saucer and the cup. I used the pen tool to make the lines and the water mark tool to grab the exact colors that was used in the original picture.

C

oncept: There is no real concept towards this picture, it was an assignment in which the main point was to learn how to draw a picture that derived from a photo.

C

omposition: When I look at this picture my focus is on the detail in the actual cup, first I look at the background, more specifically where it has more shadow. From there I move to the saucer and then I focus on the detail of the cup.

as well as the logo on the bottle. From there I created separate layers underneath everything to paint the sky, clouds, and grass.

raft: This assignment was created in Adobe Illustrator. The tools that I used were a Bamboo tablet and pen. I started off by a warm up which consists of oncept:This picture was meant to be an adverdrawing my name in various brush sizes and types. tisement for an adult, hallucinogenic beverage. The After the warm up I started looking for references that Groovy Juice title should give away the impression that I could use. I used a coke bottle for a reference in the it is a hallucinogenic beverage. Other give aways inbottle of the picture. I also decided to find a picture of clude the psychedelic pattern on the bottle, the exploda rainbow so I could take the colors for the rainbow ing rainbow juice coming from liquid exploding from May cause: the bottle, the over all happy/ the bottle. After I drew hallucinations, extremehippy background with the tripthe outlining of the bottle py clouds and round like hills. and rainbow juice I went relaxation and in ex back to focus on the treme Cases temporary bottle, creating a psycheloss of short term omposition: From the delic pattern. The next memory. beginning the main focus in this step I tool was looking picture, like many advertisefor different fonts. Then Drink responsibly ments, is The large Groovy Juice I colored in the logo and text in the middle of the text, created the symbol that the the exploding rainbow juice behind the text. From would be used to represent Groovy juice just as other there you must notice the bottle, the happy backbeverages like pepsi and Monster Energy has symground and the “Drink responsibly” text at the bottom bols to represent those symbols. I used Groovelicious right corner to inform the viewers that this is a hallucitweak for the Groovy Juice. I used Mama font for the “Drink Responsibly”, and “Created by Elisa Gonzalez” nogenic adult beverages for people.

Wedding picture reconstruction

C

raft: This was fixed using Adobe Photoshop CC. I also used a Bamboo Tablet and pen. First I scanned the original picture and opened it up in photoshop. After that I straightened the picture and took away the dirty white border. From there I used the thresh tool to mark the whitest and blackest part of the pictures and used levels to fix the color. From there I fixed the sky using the clone tool. I also used it to fix the tree, building, and ground to the left of the picture. After that I fixed the odd yellow streaks by selecting the area, mask it, and changed the saturation/hue. I also used Hue and saturation to tae away the yellow stains on the wedding dress. From there the only thing left to do was to fix the small scratches.

C

oncept: This is a picture of my parents (woman in wedding dress, and man in the black suit) after their wedding. The other people are my uncle and grandmother. This was a present for my mother since her birthday passed recently.

C

omposition:For this piece you should mostly pay attention to the before and after pictures and notice the significant changes that were made.

Father During His Youth Picture Reconstruction

C

raft: This was another photo that was fixed using Adobe Photoshop CC and Bamboo tablet. First I scanned the picture and uploaded the image in photoshop. Then I straightened and took away the white border. From there I fixed the mold growing to the side of the picture. After that I selected each section that looks like it would be a different color, masked it, and went to Hue/Saturation to color it. I did this for the hair, eyes, background, skin, shirt, and lips.

C

oncept: This was one of the few pictures that my father had of himself when he was younger. Growing up in mexico, there wasn’t much opportunity to get your photo taken. Not a lot of people were rich enough to have cameras, especially when you lived in a poor village. So I took the liberty of making it bigger, and color it.

C

omposition:This is another picture where all you need to pay attention to is the before and after.

Hanging On An Idea

C

raft: This was an assignment where we used pictures taken by Monte Gerlach. We were supposed to take those pictures and combine them into something else, or, a montage. What I did was select a picture of a man floating on a parachute, and moved it to a separate document. From there I took a lightbulb and drew lines connecting the two to make it look like he’s hanging on it. Then I took the last picture, which was the sky and trees, and set it on a layer behind everything else to give to use it as a background. From there I used the grey brush to make the inside of the lightbulb to give it a more realistic look.

C

oncept: You’re hanging on an idea, one drop away from utter disaster, should you trust your idea? Or to you just stay in the plane, safe from harm.

C

omposition: For this piece you must pay attention to the idea of the lightbulb and how it represents an idea.

Father During His Youth Picture Reconstruction

C

raft: This was another montage assignment that was created using Adobe Photoshop CC and bamboo tablet. For this picture I made a black background and took pictures of moons to drop in. I also took this weird half ball that could have been a table decoration and used it to make a Planet.

C C

oncept: There is no particular concept to this picture. It is a planet with different moons orbiting around it

omposition: For this piece you must imagine that you are in outer space, floating above your home planet.

Imagination Explotion C

raft: This is another Montage created by Adobe Photoshop and a bamboo tablet. For this picture I took the black and white picture, and chopped off his head. From there I took as many pictures that I could find of flowers, selected them, and dropped them into this image.

C

oncept: This is what goes on in your head when you’re brainstorming ideas, if someone where to chop the top of your head off and look at what’s inside, what would that person find?

C

omposition: For this piece you must pay attention the flowers exploding from the black and white man.

Beware of the Mannequin C raft: This picture is a compilation of two photographs that I took, one of a drawing mannequin and the other of the school campus. I uploaded both pictures into photoshop and started working on the mannequin. I masked out the entire background and changed the levels to make it seem like he was outside. After that I separated the campus from the sky in the second picture and set the campus on a separate layer. Then finally I dropped the mannequin between the two layers to make it seem like he was attacking Saint Xavier.

C

oncept: This was a picture for a halloween assignment. It could lead to a story/movie about a shipment of drawing mannequins getting accidentally dropped into a batch of liquid radiation, giving them slight intelligence and titanic bodies.

C

omposition: First you must see the campus by itself. Then you look in fright as the horrific monster comes into
