- The tetrad of oracles

Tutors: Alessandro Rocca

CONFESSION

SAN GIUSTO

DI SUSA

The thesis project is located in Susa Valley in Piedmont, Italy. Via Francigena in Susa Valley was a historical route for pilgrims walking from Canterbury to Rome. Therefore, the Valley includes many places of worship. For this thesis, four historically important churches of different contexts are chosen in order to be transformed into spaces providing Courtyard new ways to communicate with God. The selected abbeys are: San Antonio di Ranverso of a rural context to include accommodation and focus on praying, Sacra of San Michele Yof MaN built at theH top mountain to include an auditorium for SACRA DI SAN MICHELE chanting, the Cathedral of San Giusto di Susa situated in an urban context to include a secret garden of confession spaces and the Novalesa Abbey located in a forest to include baths for catharsis. Inspired by the Delphi oracle which applied to all religions the thesis is inspired by the design of a tetrad (according to Pythagoras four was the number Ruins symbolising God) of contemporary oracles for the current visitors of the valley.

The project is located within a short distance from the town of Ponte di Legno, on the Alpes. After studying the possible ways of approaching the site and the feasible uses that could be accommodated in the abandoned buildings it was decided to use the group of buildings in order to host European Youth exchange programs. As a result, the proposed program suggested the restoration and transformation of the chalet in order to host the young participants. The aim was to use the space as efficiently as possible in order to accommodate the maximum number of people and provide flexible rooms of different typologies to suit the different needs, while maintaining the character of the existing building and doing the least amount of changes to the building fabric. Some furniture has been designed in detail in order to fit the spatial needs. The addition to the existing building is a flexible space which can be used either as a sleeping or sitting area. Heating and cooling performance calculations were performed in order to test the energy efficiency of the building after insulated it..

& Construction studio

Tutors: Andrea Tartaglia, Giovanni Muciaccia

The building is located in Via Serio on the South - East part of Milano. The building is designed responding to the C40 Contest, a callout for environmental designs of buildings in different parts of the world. Our response was to propose a design that is both environmental and relates to the needs of the area. The interactive library is a new kind of library that responds to the area in terms of new spaces provided such as: study rooms, meeting rooms, trading rooms and lecture room. The building is divided into 3 storeys. Ground floor: commercial spaces such as cafe, restaurant, shop and classroom, first floor: main library space and meeting rooms and second floor: sound and film institute and co-working spaces (rentable). Our main intention in this studio was to understand the construction process of the building. We have produced a structural report where we calcululated the loads that the building will carry according to the program in order to find the sizes of columns, beams and foundation of the building.

rchitectural design studio

Tutors: Matteo U. Poli, Mina Akhavan, Matteo Moscatelli

The project is part of an architectural design studio and our site is located close to the Milan Expo and the Rho Fiera, an area called Cascina Merlata. After analyzing the site and the broader area of Milano we were asked to create a residential as well as commercial masterplan for this under development area. The absence of people enabled us to design by the means of attracting people with the creation of commercial spaces and shops on the ground floor as well as “urban garden which create a new type of park. The private part of the masterplan relates to the creation residential towers with a platform running on top of the shops and offers activities for the residents (gym, playground, meeting spaces). We designed in detail one of the towers which responds to different apartment typologies according to the different needs of the residents and different aesthetical appearances of the facade depending on the different side of the elevations.

The project is based in Castle Park, Bristol. The focus of the brief is the re-contextualisation of the site after the aerial Nazi bombings in World War II. St. Mary-le-Port and St. John are the two churches which have remained after the blitz. After a study of the historical maps we have asked to propose a new solution which will transform Castle Park and reconnect it with the centre of Bristol. The rehabilisation of the churches in relation with Bristol city was the combination which had played important role to the proposal decisions for the project. As the site was in a slope , the building is used in this conditions to create different levels and a journey of experience. The journey will involve a series of exhibition rooms which is going to lead into the abandoned cellars of the church.

esign to fabrication

Tutors: Marco Hemmerling

Anamorphosis, comes from the Greek ana + morphi, which means creating again the form/shape. Inspired by this, our project is called metamorphosis (meta + morphi) which means transformation. Therefore, we aim to recreate again the form of women represented in paintings of four different art movements : impressionism, fauvism, cubism and surrealism. This will be represented by an installation of cardboard pieces hanging from the ceiling in a random order and through an anamorphic device, the user will have the opportunity by changing the pictures to see the pieces coming together and each different painting will be revealed.

The purpose of DPM3 module was solve an architectural problem using 3dsMax scripting. My group was examining how conventional staircases occupy a large proportion of surface area in dwellings. Therefore, we have created an interactive staircase which can be folded when its not used and free up space around it for circulation.

recedent study

Astley Castle

In the technology assignment , our task was to analyse the construction and structural process of a case study and get inspired for our own design. Our group have chosen Astley Castle, a hotel which was used to be a medieval castle. It was interesting to study the process of construction for this historical building and the solutions that corespond to the site. Therefore, we have created a sectional model to study the new parts of the building and how it is connected with the existing walls.

Granta Architects

One of the projects I was working in Granta Architects was a residential scheme for South of Broughton - Hall. The project Free Standing Pod evolves the neighborhood of 6 cottage houses of 3 and 4 beds. I was assigned to prepare the plans and elevations of the houses for the design process. The materials and furnitures were chosen carefully after the assistance of the architects, suppliers and the client.

aim of the project was to transform a warehouse into a two-storey 3 bed accomodation home. The limited amount of space that the warehouse holds was an interesting En-suite En-suite challenge for this scheme. Sense Lab

In the short period I have worked as an architectural assistant in SenseLab I have been assigned in the renovation of NH hotel in Milan. The project was mostly on the ground floor of the hotel which includes the lobby, the reading area, the restaurant and the bar. Firstly I was helping the architects to prepare the design proposals for the clients and afterwards to prepare the construction drawings with all the changes that would be made with elevations, plans and sections.
