Class: Concert Winds Duration: 51 minutes National Music Standards: Create, Perform, Respond, Connect Repertoire: The Cave You Fear – Michael Markowsky Lesson Outcomes: Students will (sample objectives) • Create: “Sizzle” sounds that assist their airstream • Perform: The piece as written • Respond: To each other’s counting and “sizzling” abilities with a rating system • Connect: Their aistream to the idea of dynamics. Teaching Procedure Prepare Class is in arcs. Present Discussion on professionalism of classroom. Class will end early if the rehearsal is professional. Concert F breathe and blow. Introduce sizzle and dynamics. Markowsky. Discussion of professionalism at end. Practice & Extend Introduce game: Brass/WW stand up and sizzle/count while the others rate their ability to do so confidently using thumbs up or thumbs down. Assessment of Learning Outcomes and Closure: Do the students “thumb” ratings align with my own? Use video footage to track individual performances. Are the sizzle sounds effectively performed? (Fast air) Have the dynamics in the piece improved as a result of the connection to the sizzle activity? Closure: Determine if the students have performed up to expectations and dismiss class accordingly.
