La colaboración y el intercambio en educación superior entre West Point, la Escuela Militar de Cadetes `General José María Córdova´, la US Army War College, La Escuela Superior de Guerra y las escuelas que imparten otros niveles de educación militar han servido, no sólo para profesionalizar a los dos Ejércitos, sino para unificarlos y mejorar su interoperabilidad. Al igual que el incremento de los intercambios educativos, los compromisos militares entre las dos instituciones aumentaron significativamente en los últimos 12 años y progresaron desde el nivel táctico – operativo hasta el estratégico. En 2009, desarrollaron actividades de participación que están incluidas en las metas finales de la política nacional colombiana. Dichas responsabilidades están organizadas y catalogadas bajo medidas acordadas y cada año los dos comandantes del Ejército se reúnen para firmar acuerdos bilaterales, con el fin de llevar a cabo las actividades durante el año siguiente.

En 2014, las dos instituciones realizaron 67 acciones y se proyecta que este número aumente para 2015. Se acordaron apoyar reformas institucionales, maniobra de armas combinadas, y la interoperabilidad mejorada, las cuales se cobijan bajo los objetivos finales de cada Gobierno. Las oportunidades de alianza siguen siendo el conducto para mejorar el trabajo de operaciones conjuntas, pero funcionan mejor cuando se complementan con la estandarización de equipos a través de las Ventas Militares Extranjeras FMS.
Collaboration and exchanges between West Point and the Escuela Militar de Cadetes, the U.S. Army War College and the Escuela de Guerra, and every level of military education in between, have not only served to professionalize the two armies but to unify them and enhance their interoperability. As student exchanges increase so do instructor exchanges. Plans have already been made to exchange instructors at the senior service school (Escuela Superior de Guerra) level by 2016. The two armies’ education cooperation has become the model for other nations to emulate and will only increase as the Colombian Army continues to execute its transformation plan. Much like the rise in educational exchanges, military-to-military engagements between the two armies have increased significantly over the past 12 years and have progressed from the tactical and operational level to the strategic. Since 2009, the armies have developed engagement activities that are nested beneath combined end states and national policy goals and objectives. These engagements are organized and cataloged under agreed to actions and each year the two Army commanders meet to sign bilateral agreements to conduct these activities throughout the following year. Last year alone, the two institutions conducted 67 agreed to actions and remain on pace to exceed that quantity this year. Current agreed-to actions support institutional reforms, combined arms maneuver, and enhanced interoperability, all of which are nested beneath each entity’s end states. Engagement opportunities continue to be the conduit to enhance interoperability but work best when complemented with equipment standardization through FMS.
