UPDATE

A Message from Dr. Sivak

President, Einstein Physicians Philadelphia Happy May to all of you! We’ve had a lot to celebrate at Einstein and throughout the Jefferson enterprise over the past month with Nurses Week, Hospital Week and Einstein Week. We are incredibly fortunate to have such an amazing team of dedicated nurses and staff who continue to go above and beyond to deliver quality care to our patients. Their compassion and commitment are extraordinary, and we owe them a debt of gratitude for their selflessness and strength particularly over the past two years. I’d also like to recognize the 116 physicians from across the Einstein Network and MossRehab who were selected as Top Doctors in the May 2022 issue of Philadelphia Magazine. As Ken Levitan noted, “This past year continued to be challenging with COVID-19 and the changes in patient care that came with the pandemic. We congratulate and thank our Top Docs and our entire staff for their hard work, dedication, and resiliency.” Click here for the full list of Top Docs. As we move from pandemic COVID to endemic COVID, we are hopeful that our volumes and patient care activities will return to normal. We took this into account as we completed the budgeting process for FY 23. This was our first budgeting year as a Division of Jefferson Medical Group and since the processes for Einstein were almost identical, integration into the Jefferson budgeting system was seamless. As we fully integrate with Jefferson, please be aware of the following: ■

You must obtain a Jefferson ID but be sure to keep your Einstein ID since you will need this for access on the Einstein campus.

We will be moving from Kronos to the Jefferson time keeping system MyTime in late June. After this switchover, physicians and APCs will no longer be required to swipe in each day. PTO will be tracked differently. Please stay tuned for this transition date and continue to swipe until then.

I sincerely hope that you are able to spend quality time with your family as the summer season begins and I am grateful for the hard work of our physicians and staff over these past grueling two years. Please enjoy the May edition of the Einstein Physician Update, which includes: ■

In the Know with the CMO This month, I’d like to welcome Dr. Costas Lallas as the new Interim Program Director for Einstein Residency program. Dr. Lallas has served as Associate Program Director for the Jefferson Urology Residency program for more than a decade and is nationally recognized as a leader in robotics and surgical education and simulation. In his new role, Dr. Lallas will coordinate the education program for Einstein residents on the main campus and help oversee their new rotations at Abington and in Center City Philadelphia. In other news, Einstein earned high marks from the recent VAD survey by the Joint commission. To quote the surveyor: “If I needed a VAD, and I hope I do not, I would want to have it at your institution.” Einstein Philadelphia and Elkins Park were also part of the Joint commission stroke survey and performed extremely well. AEMC is one of only a few in the country to earn the Joint Commission’s advanced certification as a Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center (TSC). Kudos to all! COVID cases continue to waver in the region, and the rate has been hovering around 7% in Philadelphia as compared to a low of 1.2% a few months ago. Hospitalizations have not increased substantially. And volumes in the ER still remain low - off by 20% - a phenomenon seen nationally. And last but not least, we recently celebrated National Nurses Week from May 6 to May 12, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. We recognized our amazing nursing staff with a variety of activities earlier this month. Click here for details. I hope you all enjoy a safe and relaxing summer!

The COO Corner Spring is upon us, so longer days, rain for flowers & sunshine come back to help make our daily outlook and disposition positive after Winter months. We are hoping and planning for further recovery from COVID as we plan and budget for the new Fiscal Year 2023. ■

Staffing Vacancy Challenges – I would be remiss to not include some level of update on this issue. While not completely out of the woods, we continue to make positive strides to full staffing goals. Primary Care practices in ECHA have improved over the past few months getting closer to success of EPPI practices. We continue to work with our Human Resources colleagues to continually improve our vacancy rates, as well as, with our IT/Access colleagues to find automated solutions that will reduce demand on practice staff (i.e., Phreesia)

Implementation of Clinical Charge Capture (CCC) – At this point, all of the EPP practices are live on CCC, so the compliance issues have been addressed, and we are learning to reconcile services at this point. Most of the concerns from our physicians that could provide solutions (not limitations of the system) have been addressed as well.

Implementation of Phreesia – We are fully implemented on Phreesia across the Enterprise, and having solid outcomes for usage, and increased cash payments through the use of this product. Additionally, it has been a patient satisfier based on their feedback scores. As of this week, we are engaged with Phreesia leadership on several enhancements that will further engagement and usage. These include automated Appointment Arrival/Check-In, and Self-Scheduling + Integrated Walk-In for established patients. The self-scheduling goal is to target high value and preventive care opportunities whereby we send texts to patients to schedule for those types of services (i.e., mammograms, annual wellness, etc).

We continue to assess impacting issues and to work to find better, more efficient ways of providing support to our practices that streamline process, improved patient experience, reduces demand on our physicians/staff and has the potential to further realize revenue streams for the Network. If you have concerns or wish to learn more about any of these items, please do not hesitate to reach out to your Administrators, VPs, or contact my office for support. Thank you,

Honors & Recognitions ■

This spring, Einstein celebrated its designation as a Leader in the Human Rights Campaign’s Healthcare Equality Index, earning a score of 100 for our four facilities: Einstein Philadelphia, Einstein Elkins Park, Einstein Montgomery, and MossRehab. Michael George, Vice President, Healthcare Services, celebrated this recognition with the HRC team in Chicago. We are proud of our accomplishments and honored to provide more affirming and inclusive healthcare services to the LGBTQAI+ community.

In April, Einstein earned the designation of “LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader” in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 15th anniversary edition of the Healthcare Equality Index, the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey of healthcare facilities on practices dedicated to the equitable treatment and inclusion of their LGBTQ+ patients, visitors and employees. Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia, Einstein Medical Center Elkins Park, MossRehab, and Einstein Medical Center Montgomery all earned a perfect score of 100 earning the Leader designation. Congratulations to all on this incredible honor!

Einstein Medical Centers Montgomery and Philadelphia have been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). A special recognition goes to our physician leaders Ken Zeitzer, Jack Leighton and Vic Navarro. The ACR is the nation’s oldest and most widely accepted radiation oncology accrediting body, with over 700 accredited sites, and 30 years of accreditation experience. The ACR seal of accreditation represents the highest level of quality and patient safety, and it is only awarded to facilities meeting specific Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards developed by ACR after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field.

Einstein would also like to recognize our Doctor’s Day honorees in the Department of Radiology:

Cheryl Yondorf, MD Obstetrics and Gynecology

Hema Datwani, MD Obstetrics and Gynecology

Leonard Kamen, DO Physical Medicine and Rehab

Miriam Segal, MD Physical Medicine and Rehab
