Industry Uses of NDT Testing Equipment NDT testing or non-destructive testing is a series of testing methods that are used to determine the standards of a product without causing any damage. Since this method does not permanently alter the product and increase costs, it is a widely popular method of testing used in various industries. NDT relies on the use of electromagnetic radiations, sound, and other such signal conversions to determine the properties of a variety of products including metals, nonmetals, and food products and so on.

Industrial Uses of NDT With the reduction in costs and other resources spent with the usage of this method, NDT testing equipment finds usage in a number of industries. 

Aviation In the aviation industry, non-destructive testing equipment is used to detect defects such as cracks in aviation equipment and engines. One method used is the liquid penetration test which lets a liquid flow through the aviation equipment and then follows flow pattern with the use of white or ultraviolet radiation to reveal any cracks or defects. Another method used is the magnetic particle testing which tests aviation equipment in a similar manner.

Pipelines To detect any flaws and damages in the pipes, various NDT methods such as visual, X-Ray, ultrasonic and magnetic particle testing methods are used. Nondestructive techniques are quite useful here because it enables them to detect any flaws very early in the stages of production as it would prove difficult to dig up pipelines once they are laid down and functiona

Construction The construction industry uses non-destructive methods of testing such as pulse echo machines to determine the thickness of walls and find any defects in the steel that is used for construction.

Railways Here, NDT equipment comes handy in testing wheels and wheel-axle assemblies for defects and thus, prevents any accidents. Earlier, liquid penetration testing method was used to detect defects but with the arrival of automation, the use of ultrasonic testing methods has become more prevalent.

Manufacturing With the use of 3D computerized tomography, the manufacturing industry can detect the interiors of a product and test for any cracks or damages without opening the packaging.

Water Treatment Water treatment facilities require NDT methods to be able to check for any surface defects or corrosion without disassembling the surrounding structures. For this, they employ the use of Remote Visual Inspection which allows them to use a video scope system to access hard to reach areas of the system.

Medical Detection Non-invasive methods of cancer detection are a rising phenomenon in medicine. For this, the use of reflective light in a spectroscope or an imaging device is proving useful in creating a 3D image of any lesions or tumors.

Pharmaceuticals In the pharmaceutical industry, NDT methods are used to detect leakages and other defects which could prevent the patients from receiving the necessary amount of medicines to treat their conditions. Spectroscopic techniques are also employed in order to detect if the pills are uniform in its pill coating and molecular format. This allows a chance to detect manufacturing problems early and fix them before the product is in the market.

Security In the upkeep of security, the use of NDT equipment is widely popular. For example, in airports, the use of X-Ray screening and metal detection is quite popular because it enables them to check for explosives and other dangerous substances without having to open bags or inconvenience passengers.

The non-destructive testing method is the future of all testing equipment because it not only cuts cost by not requiring the disassembly of equipment, not also because it can help detect any damages much earlier than it could be in the earlier days.
