EDIBLES BEST TASTES OF THE CITY

NOMAD TAPAS Rooted in the ideals of exploration, Gypsy Kitchen takes on the tenet of its namesake, geographically and culinarily: dishes are inspired by Spanish cuisine and the flavors of regions across the country’s coast: the Galician and Basque areas up north, south to Andalusia and Catalonia on the east. The menu — boquerones, patatas bravas, serrano-wrapped fish with a fennel-olive salad, “paella” with shrimp, chorizo, peas and fried egg — is the result of years of travel through the Iberian domain. The ambience is transportative, too. Mosaic-tiled walls, Moroccanstyle lanterns and a large toro statue behind the bar are reminiscent of any traditional Catalan décor. Speaking of which, the cocktails are of such regional descent as well, with offerings like The Evil Eye (saffron gin, espellete, paprika, strega, lemon and cocchi) and The Merchant’s Ward (rum, zucca amaro, orange bitters and sweet vermouth). -Jaime Lin Weinstein

CORSO COFFEE Forget Starbucks; the newest “third place” in town, Corso Coffee, brings coffee worthy of the most particular connoisseur (true to Italian tradition, they offer handcrafted, wood-roasted Anèri Tricaffè espresso plus locally roasted, artisanal American drip) and fare that doesn’t look like it’s been sitting in a plastic box in a refrigerated display case for hours — because it hasn’t. Start the day with a freshly baked pastry, choose from an assortment of salads and sandwiches for lunch and indulge in a platter of artisanal cured meats and cheeses — plus wine or a cocktail — at dinner. Corso’s offerings satisfy all day-long — patio, wi-fi and great people watching included. -Jaime Lin Weinstein CORSO COFFEE Buckhead 3035 Peachtree Rd. corsocoffee.com

WAHOO GRILL Decatur 1042 West College Ave. wahoogrilldecatur.com One of Atlanta’s best-kept secrets is this Euro-inspired bistro named after the fleshy “wahoo” fish. The grill’s take on the classic Charleston Shrimp & Grits will evoke a certain downhome nostalgia, simmered in a peppery tomato cream sauce and served over rich, cheddar grits.

The newly opened Cooks and Soldiers is making waves on Atlanta’s trendy Westside. Named for the annual Tamborrada festival in the Spanish city of San Sebastian (in which the adults dress up as cooks and soldiers and march throughout the city), unique Basque-inspired dishes and tapas populate the menu, such as the octopus or pulpo, adorned with chorizo, cracked olives, orange and smoked Marcona almonds.

When that temperature rises, we’re all looking for King of Pops to help us cool down. These fresh, all natural ice pops are spotted everywhere — festivals, grocery stores, popular restaurants, yoga classes on the beltline (#kingofpopsyoga). And when you can’t find one, you’ll be itching to get your hands on a Banana Puddin’ popsicle (with pieces of Nilla wafers inside) or Blackberry Ginger Lemonade (sweetened with organic cane sugar, of course), so eat up when you can.
