2009

MEET THE TEAM

The British Jersey is on a roll! Yet again national Jersey production has improved by a greater margin than the other dairy breeds. National figures for registered Jerseys reveal that 17,967 animals averaged 5673 kgs.milk 5.39% fat 3.87% protein. Improvement in production is being made year on year and the conformation of the British Jersey is better than it has ever been.

845 days of productive life. The trait of “Productive Life” is defined as “time in the milking herd before removal by voluntary culling, involuntary culling, or death”. Simply, the Jersey cow calves earlier for the first time, and outlives other breeds because of her superior functional traits.

The popularity of the breed is increasing in a marketplace where we see fewer dairy farms and dairy cattle in the country. Farmers are turning to the Jersey to seek greater profits from their dairy operation.

Our 2009 stud offers more sires and a wider diversity of performance than ever before. We offer sires with high milk production, improved components, better type traits - udders, legs, feet, bodies - just browse through the following pages to find the bull that will take your herd forward. We also offer sexed semen from some of the bulls.

Breeding a greatly improved British Jersey has been the challenge of JISEX International for more than forty years, and providing semen from the best Jersey sires in the world has been our aim. The world has plenty to offer - the Jersey is the world’s most efficient dairy cow because she is healthier and performs for six months longer than the other major dairy breeds. The latest data published by the USDA shows that Jerseys have the longest productive life of 1045 days - the five other breeds (Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Holstein and Milking Shorthorn) only averaged

Action now has 2634 daughters in 521 herds in his US proof and is the highest type bull at 2.7 in the USA's top 100 list! He is also the highest proven sire for udder conformation. Today, Action is one of the foremost sires of the Jersey breed and his daughters are lasting well into maturity. His sire, Bancrest Lester Avery was an outstanding bull in the UK, although he did not have a great number of daughters in this country. While Avery is no longer available, we are proud to be offering this well-proven and popular son in the USA - Avery Action - from the world-famed Althea cow family. Advice from breeders in many countries is that Action is siring cows that get better with age - long-lasting, productive, good uddered mature daughters. Action should definately be used while he is available to take your herd forward in type and production. He is one of the breed’s very influential sires ... and they don't come along everyday!

She is no mean producer either, with two records over 10,000 kgs milk at nearly 6% fat! Excitation's proof shows that he is a bull that is hard to beat for conformation improvement with daughters that are taller, with strong, straight legs and a good foot angle. Louie is a 2008 introduction to the JISEX sire stud, bringing in a different pedigree from a bull with high milk and protein production. His sire stack is BW Parade x Sweet Grass Lester Grayson x Duncan Barber and his maternal line is a deep milking cow family from the noted Walden Farm herd in the USA. Louie sires cows with extra dairy strength, sound udders and strong legs and feet - the kind of cow suited to today's commercial dairy farms.

angular cows • Tall, with great dairy

• • Blueprint combines Danish and Anerican breeding as a son of Oda Heino and out of a strong long-living productive cow family from Wilderness Jerseys in Pennsylvania where their herd was managed on a grazing system. The sire stack is Heino x Berretta x Barber x Yankee Chief. Blueprint sires tall cows with plenty of width and strength through the body. His daughters have a good set to the leg with a steep foot angle. Udders are high and wide in the rear and with longer teats which have ideal placing. Blueprint should be used to strengthen cows and add extra production to the herd.

Brazo is impacting the breed with his high ranking for milk. He sires tall, large-framed cows with strong rear udder traits. His first UK daughters have strong toplines and good legs and feet. As larger framed cows, their udder capacity matches the strength and size of his daughters. This sire will leave good working cows with the will to produce high quantities of milk.

Field is a proven son of Schultz Brook Hallmark, a sire that made a significant impact on the Jersey breed. His Ex-94 dam and Ex-95 maternal granddam are stalwarts of the Jersey breed with sound production and outstanding type. Field’s daughters in Canada are demonstrating their ability to be reasonable producers of milk with even fat and protein percentages. Their type is the ideal cowman’s cow - tall, stretchy with a good, flat bone quality. Their udders are modern with very high and wide rear attachments that are well above the hocks. Teat placement is right where you want them for ease of milking.

DJ Belle sires cows that are taller and more angular than average. They are good dairy cows with a boost in milk production coupled with good plusses for butterfat and protein percentages. A Cell Count of -1 gives him the edge on many bulls and is in line with good Danish health traits. He is recommended to improve dairyness and udder health with high component prouction and is a good cross for daughters of the American bulls or Lemvig daughters. He is a Bambro BH son, out of a Fyn Tanic daughter making him outcross to most other sires.

REAGAN

•Outcross breeding •Longevity-plus •Excellent type •Strong deep pedigree

The Rapid Bay herd of the Borland family in Quebec has established a reputation across the globe for its successful breeding of the Jersey. Many notable sires with the Rapid Bay and Giprat prefixes have been used on every continent with very sound reputations. Steve Borland is a world-recognised breeder and judge of Jerseys as well as a leading showman with his cows, always being at or near the top of the big shows in Canada. We are pleased to work with Steve in offering a group of young sires from Rapid Bay destined for greatness. These three young bulls are from two of the best dairy cows living today and we urge UK breeders to consider building their herds with these magnificent “blocks of Jersey breeding”.

Reagan is a son of Giprat Belle's Connection, the highly-successful son of Centurion and Duncan Belle. His dam is Rapid Bay Whistler's Rumour, Ex-95 5E, a Bonnyburn Ali Whistler son out of a Shamrock Grove Gemini dam. This pedigree denotes great type from long-living animals, and this is what we expect from this young sire. Rumour was shown at the 2008 Royal Winter Fair in Toronto when she stood 2nd in the strong mature cow class to the eventual Grand Champion. Rumour was twelve years old!!! She has a great body for her age and walks well, but it's her udder that makes one stop and stare ... it is remarkable for a cow of her age!

Be a winner with Grand-Prix! This young sire has the potential to sire outstanding conformation. His sire, Giprat Belles Jade has built a reputation for long-lasting, great type cows. He is Duncan Belle's son by Juno. Grand-Prix' dam is the superb Vandenberg Amedeo Gorgeous, the only Excellent-97 point cow in Canada and probably the world's most "ideal-type" Jersey cow.
