Dear Readers - Welcome to the latest edition! I’m pleased to tell you all that on the morning of the 23rd February, I along with 5 others of my team reached the summit of ‘The world’s largest freestanding mountain Kilimanjaro’! it was one of the toughest things I have ever experienced so far both mentally and physically, but also the most rewarding as well. My son did amazing well to get to just over 15,000 feet before he had to turn back due to suffering with symptoms of mountain sickness. I’m so proud of my team of friends that joined me on this venture and together we have raised over £26,800 for The AMMF Cholangiocarcinoma cancer charity! We have lots of amazing businesses in this issue ready to offer you their services. Whether it’s a new living room/bedroom, landscape gardening or just needing someone to do those odd jobs you keep putting off, we have lots of businesses on hand waiting to help. Please remember when contacting any of the businesses in the magazine to mention where you saw them. I run 5 separate magazines covering Sandbach, Holmes Chapel, Congleton, Winsford and Northwich. We have just increased our overall distribution to 46,000 to include some of the newer housing developments across the areas. If you are a business owner or know someone else that is, let them know about us, our little magazines really do work. Our magazines can also be viewed on our website, helping your advert reach an even wider audience! Adverts start from just over £21 per issue (based on the 1/8th page advert)! You can also follow us on Facebook & Twitter, so if you haven’t already liked us on these please do this today and keep up with the latest information and offers.

JMG Gardener of the year 2017 Call 01606 339 627 A Northwich gardener has won the trip of a lifetime after scooping a gardening award. Rob Chisholm, of Jim’s Mowing, has been named the JMG Gardener of the Year for 2017. He previously won the national title in 2015 and 2016. This year he beat off competition to be named the outright winner after going head-tohead against the winners in Australia, New Zealand and Canada. He is now due to fly out to Australia to attend the competition’s ceremony on January 30th. Rob will spend three weeks visiting the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria in Melbourne. He said: “I’ve done some work in Tatton Gardens in the past and some work in other large gardens in the UK, but this is just the ultimate experience. “I do a lot of small gardens as well. I still get the same buzz as with the big ones.”Rob was nominated for the award by one of his customers. Judges were then shown examples of his work and then rang around 100 customers to gauge how satisfied they were with his team’s work. He found out he had won the award last month. Rob said: “We have only been running five years but we are growing from strength to strength. We have taken on more gardeners this year. We keep growing the business.“There’s a big call in Northwich for good gardeners. There are people who do it and people who don’t know how to do it. “We’re doing really well. I have a really good team around me. If you want a reliable, qualified & most importantly fully insured gardener for regular mowing, lawn treatments or one off gardening jobs, or just want any advice, please give Rob a call on Northwich 01606 339 627 or Mobile 07871 933 427

OUT AND ABOUT Leftwich Meadows Leftwich boasts both beautiful woodland carpeted with Bluebells and pockets of sunny meadows in which to have a picnic all bordering the River Dane.

Oak, Sycamore and Ash dominate the woodland with spring-flowers such as the bright yellow of Lesser Celandine. Look out for newly planted Elm trees, home of the elusive Whiteletter hairstreak butterfly which you can spot around the tree-tops. As well as areas of short grassland ideal for picnic or informal sports, there is a summer meadow which is a hive of activity on a sunny day with stunning Peacock butterflies and the hum of White-tailed bumblebees. Leftwich Meadows is a haven for wildlife and a chance to enjoy the countryside on your doorstep. Exploring further afield: A short walk takes you to Northwich Town Centre and the start of the Northwich Woodlands. Accessibility There are steep slopes down to the amenity grassland and River Dane. The footpaths through the wooded areas are on one level with a few steps. How to get there Leftwich Meadows are situated on the western bank of the River Dane to the north of the A556 at Leftwich. Contact - Leftwich Meadows, off Old Hall Road, Leftwich, Northwich, CW9 8BT. Tel: 01606 867772 To advertise call 01270 765619 or visit

Whitegate Way Visit Whitegate Way, where heavy goods trains laden with salt once lumbered to Cuddington to join the Chester - Manchester line. Today the old railway line has been transformed and provides a haven for wildlife and a pleasant place for a stroll or ride. Stretching for six miles (10km) from the heart of Winsford to Cuddington, the route offers easy walking for all ages along a varied route. Shady wooded cuttings contrast with open embankments offering spectacular views across the Cheshire countryside. Convenient access points for walkers, cyclists and riders allow you to walk or ride a length at a time. A totally accessible section, ideal for wheelchairs and pushchairs, has been developed from Whitegate Station. Whitegate was the only station on the line. Today it has been developed into a picnic area with car parking and toilet facilities. Take time to look around the station area or use it as a starting point to explore the attractive countryside around Whitegate. There is also a car park at Bradford Road, Winsford. Facilities - Toilets at Whitegate Station car park (Parish Council) Station House Community Cafe (Parish Council) Exploring further afield The Whitegate Way is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding countryside using the rights of way network, and is a useful link with the Weaver Parkway. An 8km /5 mile walking route around Utkinton takes in Utkinton Hall and the beautiful gardens of Tirley Garth along the way. The Weaver Wanderer is an easy 17km bike ride, with plenty of off-road cycling along the Weaver Parkway and the Whitegate Way.

How to get there There are rail links at Cuddington and Winsford. The car park and picnic area at Whitegate Station is signed off the A54, south of A556. The car park is locked in the evening. The glory of Wales’s beaches The beaches in Wales can be as wild and rugged as they are popular. There are those at the bustling seaside resorts and those where nature is pretty undisturbed and the only rock you’ll find is of the stone variety. You may not be able to guarantee the weather, but the beaches of Wales rarely disappoint holidaymakers. You can get off to a good start in the north of Wales at the popular seaside resort of Colwyn Bay, whose sandy beach stretches right around to its quieter neighbour, Rhos on Sea. The pace picks Llandudno, Wales’s premier up again at Rhyl, where endless amusement arcades flank the seaside resort, still oozes excellent sandy beach. Along the coast is Llandudno, Wales’s Victorian charm premier seaside resort, still oozing much of its original Victorian charm and splendour. The quietness of the seafront is rarely interrupted by the noise of amusement arcades, so you can quietly stroll alongside the sandy beach. The Isle of Anglesey is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and it’s easy to see why. In the south, at Newborough, the wide sandy beach is blessed with simply stunning views across to Snowdonia. There are many hidden bays and more popular beaches to stumble across on a trip around Anglesey. Heading down the coastline to Llyn brings you to another Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There’s an expansive beach at Dinas Dinlle in the north and the spectacular Black Rock Sands near Porthmadog in the south. In between there are the small resorts of Criccieth, Pwllheli, and Abersoch, the quaint coastal village of Aberdaron and the sheltered sandy bay of Porthdinllaen. The central coast of Wales boasts the Mawddach Estuary, whose wooded banks meet with majestic mountains. The seaside resort of Barmouth is at the estuary’s mouth and has its own picturesque harbour and sandy beach. The naturally beautiful Ceredigion Heritage Coast is a renowned area for dolphin spotting as well as walking. The rural coastline is interrupted by the small resorts and harbours of Aberporth, Llangrannog, New Quay and Aberaeron. The Victorian seaside resort of Aberystwyth, midway along Cardigan Bay, is the area’s largest resort and has two lovely sandy beaches. Of all Welsh beauties, the coastline of Pembrokeshire Coast Natural Park wins hands down. It is the UK’s only national park to solely feature coastline. In all, there are more than 50 beaches to choose from, 11 of which have earned Blue Flags and many have been issued Seaside Awards.Top choices for short breaks away include the resort of Tenby, which has three Blue Flag beaches, scenic Barafundle Bay and the aptly named Whitesands. The Pembrokeshire is also home to the Dolphin Coast of Cardigan Bay, where you can spot whales and dolphins swimming offshore. Finally, in the south you can have a wild encounter with nature along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast. The 14-mile Heritage Coast runs from Aberthaw to the dunes of Merthyr Mawr and is perfect walking territory. The coastal path hugs rugged cliff tops and heads down to secluded sandy beaches, the best being Southerndown. Who said that you need to jet off abroad for a good beach holiday? 28 WISDOM TEETH (Written in the dentist’s waiting room because there were no Readers Digests available. Health and safety apparently) Certain people have the ability to intimidate me. Intellects always manage to flummox me, because not being clever myself I never know what they really know and what they really don’t know. Are their brains half full or half empty I wonder? I always know when a bottle is half empty. People who work with power tools scare me to death, they could turn funny and before you know it you could end up with a scrambled house. Big bills baffle me because I never understand how they are worked out. Women really intimidate me; enough said. Needles make me freeze with fear. Dentists, especially young lady dentists who look as though they have just left school are my worst nightmare because I never know what they know and what they need to know is very important. I am in pain and have to visit a young lady young enough to be still wearing a brace in her mouth, who I hope knows all she has to know. She gives me the needle, plays with power tools in a confined space, i.e. my mouth and to really finish me off is going to hit me with a great big bill. I have arrived on time, tooth hurty’. Yes I know but I find it funny, remember I am not an intellect! This is one of those occasions when a woman has me at her mercy and she always speaks to me as if I am a child. She moves in close, so close that I see my reflection in her brace and she whispers ‘Open wide, that’s good, well done, more spray nurse’. She ignores my screams when I first see the needle. ‘Don’t worry this won’t hurt’. ‘Arrrrgggg’. As we all know this is as much and we can say with a numb mouth. ‘Arrrrgggg’ said loudly is pain. ‘Arrrrgggg’ said softly means ‘I agree with everything you just said but I can’t speak at the moment, my mouth has gone missing’. ‘How do such young ladies come to be so clever so early on’ I ask myself. For this exercise I am using clever and wise as the same thing when clearly they are not, but this is my pen and it does exactly what I tell it to! I have a theory as to why she is so clever and wise. I believe she has harvested patients’ wisdom teeth and had them set in her own mouth, becoming wiser with every implant, hence the brace to hide the evidence. I have come up with what I think is a cunning plan. I will have dentistry work that includes having several wisdom teeth inserted and I would be able to pen some important intellectual, interesting, inventive, intelligent literature instead of the constant stream of drivel that pours forth now. It would create a massive bill but as they say, ‘no pain no gain’. You might make the comment that to be clever one should study but at my age I sleep too much to focus. I will explore the wisdom teeth option first. I could be drugged before surgery and wake up as a genius.

New Ableworld Magazine Hold the front magazine on its way.

Some of the most successful publications with the largest circulations and readerships are actually customer magazines, provided by companies that understand the importance of staying close to their customer bases. Now the UK’s leading retailer of mobility equipment, Ableworld, is launching its own customer magazine which will be available free of charge in 34 stores around the UK and online. Titled ‘independence’, the magazine will provide readers with a variety of articles, news and views which Marketing Manager Michelle Mossford believes will provide useful advice: “Unlike many company newsletters and magazines, ‘Independence’ is about our customers and potential customers, not ourselves.

Michelle says that the company is also keen to hear from organisations, charities and companies that have services and products that the Ableworld magazine readers would find interesting and useful. The magazine, which is scheduled to appear quarterly initially, will be available to pick up from all 34 stores Nationwide by mid April. The magazine will also be available to read online and will be found on the home page of the Ableworld website. For further information email magazine@

The majority of the content is aimed at providing interesting and useful reading for the thousands of people who already shop with us and all those who visit our website and stores for the first time.” Ableworld will be looking to support its suppliers too as Michelle added: “We are keen to work with our suppliers to give them and their products exposure in the magazine. In the first issue we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of one of our suppliers and running a competition in conjunction with another.”

You will need (pic1) Fabric & ribbon Scissors Pencil & tailors chalk Button & brooch pin Needle and thread Step By Step Instructions‌ 1.Draw out your flower to whatever size you wish, also size down the flower so you have 2 different sizes. (pic 2) 2. Trace around the large & small flower templates in whatever fabric you have chosen, in total I cut out 2 large flowers and 3 small ones, I also traced around a small jam jar lid for a circle shape. (pic 3) 3. Place the fabric flowers on top of each other with the smaller ones to the top.(pic 4) 4. Put a threaded needle through the centre of the flowers so they are all attached together, then start to gather the flowers at the front & back so you have a slight 3D effect, when you are happy stitch the button to the front which will disguise the sewing. 37 Taste Cheshire crowns local hospitality champions of 2018

At a glittering award ceremony at the Pavilion at Chester Racecourse, over 350 people from the hospitality industry gathered to Þnd out who had won the annual Taste Cheshire Awards on Wednesday 4th April.

Over 40,000 votes were cast by customers of venues right across Cheshire, which saw a short list in each category mystery dined and shopped by industry experts to determine the gold, silver and bronze medal winners.

Taste Cheshire general manager, Briony Wilson said: ÒIt was one of the best events we have ever put on. The industry gets so little time to get together and celebrate what an amazing job they all do representing Cheshire to the millions of visitors we have to the county every year.

ÒAll of our nominees have had a wonderful 2017 and our various winners at each level have excelled at the very top of their game. It is a privilege for us to be able to celebrate their achievements with them.”

The event was hosted by Gavin Matthews, with Horseradish Catering providing a meal for perhaps the toughest ‘gig’ of the year, feeding their peers.

Taste Cheshire owner Stephen Wundke was delighted with the event, as he explained: ÒOur annual awards have been running now for 18 years and by staging these just after the Food and Drink Festival we bring a huge focus across the UK on to Cheshire and its food and drink industry.

ÒThis was a superb night and we are already planning for how we can introduce more categories for 2019 to encourage even more people in to the industry.Ó

Andrea’s AMMF Army – Climbing Kilimanjaro February 2018! Message from the Summit… My name is Andrea and I run these little directories that you are reading, as many of you know I was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer in October 2015 called Cholangiocarcinoma (cancer of the bile duct). This cancer has one of the worst survival rates of all cancers, much more research into finding an earlier way of diagnosing it is desperately needed. The AMMF is the UK’s only Cholangiocarcinoma Cancer Charity, dedicated Andreas AMMF Army to tackling this devastating cancer on all fronts: providing information and support, campaigning to raise awareness, and encouraging and supporting research.

Andreas AMMF Army

I have been on a mission to raise money and awareness of this devastating cancer by climbing the UK’s tallest mountains over the past few months, running other local fundraising events including a charity ladies’ night and a firewalk event. All these events were leading up to my biggest challenge so far which was to climb the world’s largest freestanding mountain Kilimanjaro!

On the 17th February myself, my 14-year-old son, and 10 other amazing friends flew out to Tanzania to climb Kilimanjaro. We started our 6 days climb on Monday 19th February, the climb was very challenging and altitude sickness caused problems for most of us at some stage of the trip. I’m pleased to say that on the morning of the 23rd 6 of us (myself included), reached the summit of Kilimanjaro. I’m extremely proud of my son Sam who managed to get to 15,000 feet before he had to turn back and everyone else on our trip. These lovely friends Michelle Johnson, Laura Beck, David Wiley, Fi Bryne, Ash Findler, Erica Cordock, Mike Bull, Andrew Suter, Simon Gregory & Glynne Jones all gave up their own money and time to join me on this trip and endured all sorts of challenges along the way, I am extremely proud and grateful to each one of them!

Since November 2016 we have raised just over £26,800 for this amazing charity (6.7K from our first JustGiving page and 20.1k with our latest JustGiving page). I would like to also personally thank all the businesses that have sponsored us: There are lots of other amazing people/ businesses that have helped me along the way and I’m so grateful to all of them for this. My next scan is on the 3rd April so I’m keeping everything crossed for this and I’m already planning my next big fundraising event and will reveal details regarding this soon! If you would like to donate to the AMMF text 70070 quoting YPPH89 (text donations can be upto £10) or please visit my just giving page AndreasAMMFArmy Thank you so much for reading this story – Andrea and her AMMF Army!
