Welcome to our third Education Travel & Culture Newsletter! - January 2020 -


ETC T GRAND CANYON Our amazing ETC students had a great time on our ETC Grand Canyon trip in October. They went to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, and Montezuma’s Castle. They also had a dance night, a scavenger hunt and a campďŹ re where they shared s'mores.


TRIPS SAN FRANCISCO

Our students had an incredible trip to San Francisco in November. They explored different areas of the city like China Town and Downtown. They also went to different attractions like our amazing Golden Gate, Palace of Fine Arts, Alcatraz, Pier 39 and the Coit Tower.


ETC T LOS ANGELES Our exchange students visited Los Angeles at the beginning of January. It was fabulous! They were the ďŹ rst ETC group to see Star Wars Disneyland and the new Jurassic Park at Universal Studios. They also went to Santa Monica to enjoy the beach and took a city tour where they visited the Grauman Theater.

ined the GivingTuesday movement! This group of students and families donated books to Peak Vista Community Health Centers for their book drive. Our students were able to meet with the board of directors and share how they contributed.

Another group of students volunteered to prepare six casseroles and four trays of brownies for the Men's Shelter of Charlotte. It is an awesome local organization that not only provides temporary shelter and food for men experiencing homelessness but also works with those men to get them into permanent housing. While the casseroles cooked, they also made cards for Cards 4 Hospitalized Kids, an organization that brings joy and hope to kids in hospitals all over the country by delivering handmade cards.

Our student Lorenzo, from Italy, and his host brother Paul are on the Cheyenne Mountain High School tennis team. They just played in the state tournament where they won the state title and Lorenzo took third in the state!

Mariana has qualified to be not only on the first semester Honor Roll of her high school, but she also made the Principal's list.

She danced with the Manassas Ballet. She was in 8 performances of the Nutcracker.

Silvia Phillips Student Support Manager

Natasha Johnson Student Support Coordinator

We are pleased to introduce our Student Support Manager Silvia Phillips and Student Support Coordinator Natasha Johnson. As you know, they have both been part of ETC for several years and will CONTINUE to provide a great support for students, host families, field staff and our valued partners. In addition to being our Communications Specialist for 5 years, Silvia has first-hand experience and personal cultural knowledge having lived in France, Spain and as an exchange student in Australia. Prior to working for ETC she used her psychology background for many years working with teens in different capacities.  Natasha brings so much to this new department! Not only is she a Licensed Professional Counselor but she has also been involved in the Exchange Student world since 2005 as a host mom, LC, FM and RM.  Their expertise and vision in every area of our organization is a fantastic asset to ETC and will continue to elevate our service and level of excellence.

Kirsten Boone Training Manager

Kirsten Boone is now serving as our Training Manager and is not longer included with student issues. She will continue to make additions, changess, and improvement to our innovative training materials.

Jessica Schneiter Travel & Logistics Specialist

Jessica our Travel & Logistics Specialist is our newest addition to the ETC Team. She has ample experience managing corporate travels for events across the globe and is thrilled to be part of ETC in the capacity of supporting students and partners with our wonderful ETC trips.
