EF ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN ENGLISH FOR MEDIA & ART Imagination, expression and innovation meet high-level English language studies.

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM > Earn an EF Advanced Diploma or Advanced Certificate The EF Advanced Diploma is awarded to students successfully completing a 9-month or 11-month program. The EF Advanced Certificate is awarded to students completing a 6-month program.

CORE COURSES The Media & Art Program includes required subject courses, and ongoing General Egnlish courses (see below). Availability may vary. > General English Studies At the basis of every EF Advanced Diploma program is a solid course of ongoing General English study at your individual level of language placement. This course develops your English proficiency to promote independent communication, confidence, and critical thinking. This is a required course. > Introduction to Media & Art Studies This is a required foundation course for the EF Advanced Diploma program. It is offered during the first term. Valuable tools will be taught to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills for communicating in the world of media and art. Lessons will be taught in the context of a long-term media and arts project and will survey international academic and professional topics. > Key Concepts of Media & Art Providing you with the initial tools to understand and engage with the barrage of media messages that surround us, this required, first-term course encourages you to add your own voice to the world of media. You’ll be exposed to a wide range of media and will become versed in how these diverse elements interact in the real world.

> Journalism and Media Studies This course is designed to build both a theoretical and practical foundation in professional journalism skills. The curriculum is designed to enhance all four language skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking – so that you become a more effective consumer and communicator of mass communication. > Graphic Design Introducing fundamental design principles and concepts of visual communication, this course provides essential theory paired with a balance of practical application. Beginning layout techniques and combining of text, symbol, and image will strengthen your conceptual thinking and problem solving. Basic skills in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign will be applied. > Introduction to Photography This course is designed to build your confidence in using digital cameras, understanding the principles of composition and working in Photoshop. With an emphasis on visual awareness, you’ll experiment and expand your knowledge of photography both in a historical and contemporary context through a variety of projects.

ADMISSIONS > Placement test Before being accepted to the program, you will be required to take an admissions placement test. You will need to test into the Common European Framework for Language Reference (CEFR) Level B2 for the Media & Arts program.

> Introduction to Film Studies and Production The main focus of this course is to introduce you to the study of film. Through the systematic study of the stages of film production, you’ll address creativity, language, organization and teamwork through the task of designing, creating and making a short film. You will be involved in all aspects of the creative process.
