ABOUT THIS PROGRAM > Earn an EF Advanced Diploma or Advanced Certificate The EF Advanced Diploma is awarded to students successfully completing a 9-month or 11-month program. The EF Advanced Certificate is awarded to students completing a 6-month program.

CORE COURSES > General English Studies At the basis of every EF Advanced Diploma program is a solid course of ongoing General English study at your individual level of language placement. This course develops your English proficiency to promote independent communication, confidence, and critical thinking. This is a required course. > Intro to International Communications Studies This is a required foundation course for the EF Advanced Diploma program, offered during the first term. Valuable tools will be taught to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills for communicating at the international level. Lessons will be taught in the context of a long-term project and will survey valuable academic, professional and international topics. > Academic Writing Designed to assist you in becoming a competent and confident writer for academic purposes, this course focuses on all the necessary steps in writing for university level coursework. You’ll learn to brainstorm, draft, proofread, edit, revise, and present a final product. Attention will be paid to issues of research, referencing, plagiarism, and style. > Information Literacy This course is designed to assist you in developing skills that will enable you to function as an information-literate individual, capable of using and applying current information technology.

You’ll develop skills in acquiring information; learn effective searching, evaluation of information, and use of the Internet.

You’ll also discuss the implications of living in a digital society.

> Cross-Cultural Communication This course is designed to offer a theoretical basis through a hands-on approach to the concept of cross-cultural learning and communications. Practical examples from your daily life abroad will constitute the basis for discussions and role plays, at the same time emphasizing the general applicability of the concepts and skills you’ll acquire to any intercultural context. > Effective Writing The emphasis of this course is to help you write clearly, effectively and interestingly for a variety of purposes and audiences. Writing workshops, exercises and revision of grammar points along with regular writing assignments encourage you to practice at each step of the writing process. Key language exam practice tests will be used to hone your writing skills even further. > Public Speaking You’ll learn how to appropriately choose and research a topic, give persuasive and informative presentations, and to speak with confidence. Time will be given to the “mechanics” of presentations, as well as to how to delegate tasks in a group. By the end of the term, students will be ready to present in English in a manner appropriate for the university level. > Communication Strategies This course is designed to assist students in becoming competent, confident and independent communicators, through the building of communication skills in strategy and critical thinking. In this course students will be developing fluency over a range of language functions, building the ability to be concrete and abstract, as well as to use language in a creative and flexible way. > Film Studies The main focus of this course is to introduce students to the study of film. Through the systematic study of the stages of film production, students will address creativity, language, organization and teamwork through the task of designing, creating and making a short film. Students will be involved in all aspects of the creative process.

> Regional Literature Studies This course provides students with a unique chance to learn about the literary world in the context of their language studies and study abroad experience. Through reading literature, students can come to a greater understanding of the time periods in question while simultaneously gaining a better understanding of the context of local culture and language.

> Global Issues This introductory course addresses controversial international issues with respectful and open analysis, encouraging you to explore a variety of world issues in a global context. Particular areas of emphasis include global resources; globalization and trade; global conflict and negotiation; international development; human rights and social justice; and global communication.

> Regional Cultural Studies In order to understand the local culture and the underlying values of society, one must integrate fully into the community.

This course will look at history, arts, culture and current events that shape the regional society with the goal of leveraging this knowledge to assist in integration at the local level and subsequently to improve skills in language and cultural acquisition.

> People and Places Through discussions and implementation of supplementary projects, you’ll be given a rich introduction into human culture.

The course will expand your world view by presenting an array of topics related to the phenomenon of culture and cultivate understanding of the history of humanity and differences in global cultures.

> Business Fundamentals With the goal of assisting you in becoming a competent and confident participant in the international corporate world, this course explores strategies and knowledge needed to interact professionally and successfully in business environments.

Topic-focused lessons provide a survey of various fields and functions of business. > Business Topics Through reading and discussing actual Harvard Business Publishing Case Studies, students will learn about and apply various business tools, such as: SWOT analysis, ‘The Five Ms’, Porter’s Five Forces Model, and basic financial calculations.

You’ll strengthen necessary professional language skills through project-based work, group case analysis and oral presentations. > Journalism and Media Studies Introducing the fundamentals of journalism and mass communication, this course provides a solid theoretical and practical foundation. The curriculum is designed to enhance all four language skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking – training you to become a more effective consumer and communicator.

ADMISSIONS > Placement test Before being accepted to the program, you will be required to take an admissions placement test. You will need to test into the Common European Framework for Language Reference (CEFR) Level B1 for the International Communications program.
