6 The Intelligence of Dolphins The ability to understand reality on fictive situation is a unique capability of human beings; however, animals have the ability to learn specific situations, so we can consider animals intelligent. In addition, all animals have certain skills and therefore enjoy a certain intelligence. Examples are earthworms, which have some degree of intelligence because they block their tunnels with leaves. As for the ability to adapt to the environment, we can mention cockroaches, flies, rats and seagulls, which have a great capacity to adapt to the environment and sometimes become pests for people.
Dolphins are very intelligent animals that
are capable of mimicking the sounds and find their own survival strategies. According to scientific studies, dolphins are highly intelligent; in fact, their brain is very similar to that of men, and in some aspects superior.
First, dolphins have amazing social skills. These animals are cetaceans which have a remarkable capacity for social relations, and particular skills of its kind and a very hard to find intelligence in the animal world. Dolphins have a strong social life because they need to be organized in group. It is very strange that they act individually. In National Geographic they said that groups of dolphins reach up to a dozen individuals, and when there is an abundance of food, this number can multiply temporary in large number.
Communication among dolphins occurs from ultrasonic vocalizations and sounds (the latter especially for echolocation) that allows them to organize roles and responsibilities among the group members. This is because they possess great skill regarding communication. An example of this is when females teach their young to use marine sponges covering their noses to protect them during foraging for food. Actually this ability of dolphins is very surprising because in some way or another they act like humans. Humans protect their children and help them survive in any situation. Dolphins do the same and they are very intelligent, and that is a behavior that involves a degree of animal intelligence.
Among other notable features of the culture of the dolphins we can find infanticide (killing the pups to control the stability of the group), the allocation of roles among its members for hunting and protection of injured members of the group to external threats and predators. This trait certainly does not resemble human beings at all, as parents do not kill their children for stabilization.
7 Dolphins do so to control their stability, which I think is important and intelligent. Dolphins associate a particular gesture or sound with a particular object, quickly acquire vocabulary of verbs (touch, look), after associating it with each other: playing ball. They also memorize adverbial notions: up, down, back, front, top, right, left, inside, outside. Lastly, they know to construct sentences that have five elements. They dominate the meaning of words, semantics, have a vocabulary of several dozen terms; they also dominate the construction of sentences, syntax, have access to the symbol, a form of logic and abstraction. Dolphins can sense if the objects are in the pool or not, which exemplifies a higher degree of mental representation, and they have a good memory because they can remember all the things after six months.
Finally, dolphins are truly amazing animals with a much higher degree of intelligence in contrast to several marine species. They are animals with many skills and abilities that differ from other marine animals. Their abilities to adapt to the social environment are important and show us how they survive through their group strategies. It is very strange that they act individually; they need to be in group. It is a fact that dolphins are highly intelligent and that their brain is very similar to that of men, in some aspects even superior. Eduardo Araya Durรกn
8 Intelligent Animals This world was created and with it, so were the animals. God created many kinds of animals, who were the first inhabitants of the planet. These creatures embellished d the world with their incredible sounds, colors, sizes, shapes and a great variety of different features. Even though they are not gifted with reason as humans, it may seem they are smart creatures. Without doubt they can teach us more than we think.
Nowadays, many of these animals are extinct. Humans are respondent. Animals are necessary in our society. They help us with daily duties, such as the farm animals; they keep us company, as our pets, and they amaze us with their abilities. To some people these animals transmit a sense of tranquility, well-being, sympathy and motivation. Several examples of these “intelligent animals that live among us as our helpers and companions (can be mentioned): dogs, they do not only keep us company, but they help guiding the blind; they can take care of children and do many other labors; horses are a very reliable mean of transportation; cows provide us food and take care of a farm; dolphins are able to learn to communicate; parrots can mimic some words; monkeys can learn many different activities.
Other animals can almost be like teachers! Ants for instance, teach us how to be good, organized workers and how to work as teams. There are many things to be said about these smart animals and humans have improved their way of living in most areas because of them.
In conclusion, there is no doubt about the importance of these amazing beings. Our world would not be as happy, beautiful and interesting as it is. This is the reason why we must protect these animals by taking care of the environment where both, animals and humans live. Karen Artavia Herrera
9 Animal Intelligence on cats
Since twenty century the animal psychology, has experienced about intelligence in animals just using simple learning processes, like classic and operant condition and try to understand the similarities with intellectual abilities of humans. The researchers prove that learning skills is the social, tradition and culture between the species, this help for evolution analysis. Science has identified vertebrate and invertebrate species than have the ability to speak, account, socialize, vocalize, memorize and categorize. The evidence that animals are more intelligent and more social that we thought grows year by year. Of course animals do not have the ability to communicate with the complexity of human language but we are going to see how they use deferent methods to communicate and interact.
One example to learn about experiments in psychology are cats, the studies show that this animal can think complex actions and can learn to answer in different situations. Cat has the capacity to solve problems and adapt to his environment, they have the ability to communicate what they need in a social group and respond to training formation.
Domesticated cats´ intelligence study demonstrates with observation, the increased incidence of interspecies communication. Their skills and abilities are verbal comprehension, working memory and processing on an amazing speed. Also they have intelligence to find objects not available to sight because they have information retention or recall for about ten years. The scientist considered the cats can do this because they have the capacity of learning law of effect, and to considered responses followed by satisfaction let say they want a reward.
One example is when cats learn to escape from a box by pressing lever inside the box, after a lot of trial and error; they associate the lever like opportunity to get out because they make connections satisfactory to feel free when the box opens. Another example is putting a cat in a wooden box that had a rope that open a door that led to food, so when the cat is starving his first reactions is frantic but after some minutes he explore the environment and he knows he could open the door if he pushes the rope to get the food.
In conclusion this kind of experiments in which we are able to know the reactions of the stimulation in the environment and also able to see the behavior of the
10 animal, if it is a coincidence, if he learns anything new or if he stays in the same state as he began. I think they have a complex behavior to survive because they wait, they predict, they adjust and adapt to get his purpose.

11 Longevity The Power of Healthy Living
Longevity is long life, a great duration of life. People with a very advanced stage in their lives have found the secret of longevity. A good health is determined by many factors, such as genetics, hormones and lifestyle. All these factors together, along with some luck, determine each person's longevity. Longevity in people depends on how their lives have had success over the years. This type of life has a high degree of knowledge, experience and wisdom to those who have it. It is rewarding to know about this stage of life and acquire knowledge of those elderly people.
People who have a long life reach this age because throughout their years they have managed to keep a healthy lifestyle. So it allows that their brain work well, allowing them to keep a sharp mind and a good memory developed in their later years. Most people realize some changes
in their brain,
abilities to perform mental tasks
that can help
them to keep an agile mind.
scientists have shown that if they
positive mood, and a sense of
helps them to keep their lives more and away from stress, in contrast
who do not have a healthy lifestyle. These kinds of people are sedentary, people who do not like to do exercise or anything useful for their lives. This is not only detrimental to their physical shape, but also may have harmful effects on memory and mental agility.
Experts have discovered that an optimistic view of life can help a long way towards preserving emotional health and possibly prevent diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. Many of the factors that allow people to have a long life are: a good financial strategy for future economic security and maintaining the standard of living in retirement help to reduce the stress caused by uncertainty. Another is the healthy food choice that contributes to a balanced diet; it helps control the progression of many diseases and reduces the length of hospital stays. Also daily physical activities and screening tests help to prevent or delay some diseases like cancer or heart disease. In addition cultivating the qualities of a youthful mind connected with spirituality health, prevents depression and dementia, and helps to avoid the fragility and dependence with age.
The long life of adults is due to having good positivism and the desire to enjoy life to the fullest. Implementing all daily habits is what helps them get many years of life. Anyone can have this lifestyle if proposed from the beginning to start healthy routines. Elderly people are often very wise, and all the knowledge and experience acquired over the years are examples of life that any young person can learn to be able to reach a long life. All tips learned by this type of life can help us to have a healthier and dynamic lifestyle.
Finally, longevity should be an example to us all. A great advantage of this kind of life is that if we follow the rules to the fullest and practice habits, we will live better. It is a lifestyle that should be constant and it is important that we are not sedentary, without exercise or any other sport, because it takes away the years of life and in some cases we will feel powerless to perform our daily tasks. Exercises, to eat well, have a positive mood and sense of humor every day help us to relieve stress and feel better. It is important to know about this stage of life and acquire all the knowledge of the elderly people. Eduardo Araya Durรกn
13 Life Expectancy The index of standard people´s living has increased through the years and we can say that people today are living longer. But achieving this longevity does not come from nowhere; longevity in people is the product of a whole series of habits. Among them, we can mention healthy diet, exercising and having an active and close family life. The Peninsula of Nicoya in Costa Rica is considered one of the "Blue Zones" in the world that is characterized by people who live over a hundred years.
Having a healthy diet regulates digestion and provides essential nutrients to the body. A good nutrition helps keeping a balanced weight and helps the body heal any disease faster. Having a good breakfast with cereal is very important because it prevents cardiovascular diseases. In the Nicoya Peninsula, people are used to growing grains and producing corn-based products, so a rich breakfast cereal keeps cholesterol levels controlled. In other regions of the world, meals are usually accompanied with red wine or high consumption of fresh fish and vegetables and meats instead, they eat small portions of food that helps the digestion.
The practice of sport, exercises and recreation are essential to have a good physical and mental health in older people, but physical activity must be constant, sustained and methodical to avoid injury. Exercises improve the performance of the body, so that persons performing these activities will be less susceptible to disease and organ deterioration; thus, an active and healthy life is longer and the symptoms of aging are delayed due to the constant practice of sports.
Having good family ties in life is crucial and because sharing with family or friends is recommended to have fun. Being positive and relaxing using relaxation techniques and meditation helps to heal better and ward off stress. Additionally, learning something new every day or frequently helps to keep the mind active. studies show that people with more education live six or seven years longer than those with less education.
14 In conclusion, to have a long life is necessary to have good eating habits, practice sports and have good family relationships. All this will contribute to good physical and mental health. It is extremely important to live peacefully, trying to manage stress levels in both personal and professional life to live in harmony. Eilyn VĂquez Alfaro
15 Longevity In Costa Rica in the province of Guanacaste in Nicoya, is the region of the country where people live longer. What are the reasons why people in this area live longer? It is because of their lifestyle, which is a simple life or because money makes these people live more years than the rest of the country.
One reason to have a long life is a healthy life. In the Guanacaste zone, people have a different diet to other areas of the country where they have a more accelerated life. They consume fruits and vegetables, as it is an area where there are some fruits like pineapple, melon, watermelon, mango and others. Seasonal fruits are within the reach of all and are therefore easy to consume.
Another reason is, more
that country life is cultivate some of
the products they eat and
surrounded by vegetation
addition to walking long
distances. In these
areas it is easier to see
people on bicycles
whereas the use
cars in the capital.
The Guanacaste province has the purer air. There is less pollution in rivers, and there is not so much stress and accelerated life as in the capital. People have more time to enjoy with friends and the families are bigger so there are more unity and people are more affective. People have more communication with their families and neighbors.
I think the reason why these people are living longer is because they have a little more quiet than the other parts of the country. They live in quiet places filled with
16 vegetation, large families and there is a lot of union. They are also persons who eat healthy and because of the type of work they do, this are manual work, they are very active. The secret of these people is a life full of family welfare, healthy eating and exercise. Daisy MartĂnez Lamas
17 Breaking Barriers
On the next essay I am going to talk about Disability or what people usually believes is a one, and a big example for each one of us who “cannot” break the barriers that life present us through a great man that travels around the world that yes we can. Let see what the definition of disability is. Disability is a condition when people have physical, mental, intellectual, cognitive, emotional or sensory impairments, it could be some barriers for participation in the society activities or to have equal basic conditions than others. The causes of disability can be per problems during pregnancy, the condition of premature baby or difficulties during birth. Also it may be cause by consequences of accidents for example: car accidents, organism problems like stroke; also a person can be qualified with a disability if he or she is not like the rest of the people´s standards.
Nick James Vujicic born on December 4th, 1982 in Australia he has a disability condition named tri-Amelia, characterized by absence of three of his limbs. He doesn’t have both arms at shoulder level, right and left lower extremity; he has just a small foot with two fingers instead of his legs. When he wanted to study he found one of his first barriers, Victoria State law, but he became the first “disabled” student integrated into a mainstream school once the laws changed; then he had to confront a new barrier bulling, but he did not allow that to get him down, at ten year old he tried to drown himself but once again he overcome this barrier and because of the love of his parents he did not do it.
A great moment on his life was one day when his mother showed him an article about a man with a great disability; what made him changed and started to see life from a deferent point. When he was twenty one years old he graduated in Accounting and Financial Planning but he thought he could be something else to help people so he began as motivational speaker focus on the issues young people has. However he also gives motivational lectures for the national or international corporate sectors, churches, schools and communities. He has already spoken on five continents and more than thirty countries.
Nick wanted to be financial independent when he was twenty five years old, so he published his first book titled: No Arms, No Legs, No Worries! and this was a worldwide success. Also he has recorded the great purpose of life DVD and founded his own organization named Life without Limbs its principal objective is to provide
18 motivation to people without limbs, discuss issues such as fear, rejection, depression, and unanswered prayers.
Mr. Vujicic is a great example of courage for each one of us who believes that cannot achieve or do something because all the “barriers” we will find on the day by day, also we can say physical, mental or intellectual’s limitations are not impediments to achieve our goals or try to have a normal life. When we really want something we have to try to do it and to reach it; always having a positive attitude and live the life without limits.

19 Problems Faced by People with Disabilities in Costa Rica One of the biggest problems faced by people with disabilities in Costa Rica is the difficulty access public places. Although the law 7600 was passed many years ago, most businesses and public institutions disrespect this law. This makes it difficult for people with disabilities to have equal access like the rest the population.
The problem of inequality and no access for all is not only present in enterprises. Also government agencies who should to ensure the law are not complying with the law. It is also a problem that many of us disapprove. We are part of the problem because we disrespect areas intended for people with disabilities or simply do not give them space to stand in line or riding the bus.
Accessibility is a problem people with disabilities have to face when they perform daily activities, such as going to bank, going to the hospital, shopping or a special event. People seem to forget that they are small population, entitled to conduct business as normal and that change starts with few people.
But not only is the freedom of transit a problem, also this people face discrimination problems because many of them are unemployed. And are unfair because their motor disability does not prevent them to think reason and take leadership positions. These people have much to contribute and teach not only their skills, but also their desire to excel despite the limitations and obstacles.
In conclusion, people with disabilities have the right to be treated equally, without discrimination based on their condition or disease. We can be part of the change, not the problem. We just have to work respecting the space and continue to helping, supporting, and setting an example to others. Change can start in a small group. Depends on in us to be part of the solution or the problem.

20 The importance of the news in our daily lives... Why young people are not interested in the news? The news represents sentimentality in some people... The News and its Relevance to Everyday Life The importance of the news in our lives is vital, because we get an) update about our country and the world. However, not all people consider it of this way, so that is why I will perform an analysis of the importance of being informed through newsletters, newspapers, radio stations or documentaries. That is media in which the information is transmitted.
An investigation by the University of Texas revealed that the interest of people in the news and traditional media is invalid or does not exist. It has been discovered that in the past generations, there was a great interest in staying informed of what had happened in the world or in your own country, but the media at that time was limited because there were only radios or newspapers. There have always the need to know what could be happening across the world.
However, we found that the news is vital every day regardless of its content, because it reflects sentimentality, tragedy, fun, politics, culture, economy and others, because it provides unknown information about many interesting things and becomes a voice that alerts a person or an entire country.
Thus means brutally mistreated and deaths. That is why we face the need to stay informed, in order to not be considered ignorant to what is happening around us because this is part of the need to know.
All this represents the need to learn through the news, it is also very important to create a new vision of our future, a warning now or simply to acquire new knowledge of something that seemed irrelevant or about whose existence we were simply unaware of. In conclusion, these are some of the reasons why the news is a vital part of our daily lives and why we need to be informed about news. Karen Artavia Herrera
22 Homework in Our Days
Over the years, education and various assignments we receive in schools, colleges and universities have evolved. They are products of societal changes and advances in technology. Homework is a very important component of the education we receive since according to the level of complexity that involves the task, it allows us to study the subject viewed in class. Another important task is that we can investigate various issues and finally make a work discipline. The constant performance of tasks allows us to organize our daily tasks and to comply in a timely manner with work set.
In any area of study there are tasks that allow us to develop and implement the theoretical and practical knowledge that have been developed in the class. From my experience it might indicate that the development of tasks allowed me to consolidate, my knowledge and an example of this is the trials performed frequently in the English class. These tasks have allowed me to practice the explanation, that the teacher made at the beginning of the course and resulted in a practical product that I perfected in vocabulary and grammatical structures in order to better understand the English language.
From another perspective, the tasks allow us to develop the research capacity of students and school research also allows us in turn to develop inventiveness, which is what is intended in many study centers today. As the phenomenon of globalization means that people have a multidisciplinary background with extensive knowledge which is sourced by researching, studying and analyzing in depth. It is worth indicating that the tasks that are assigned to students should be appropriate to the age and ability of each student.
The tasks and assignments allow us to acquire a degree of responsibility and discipline, improving school performance and promoting training fortifications. Good study habits and tasks additionally promote responsibility, autonomy and student self-
23 esteem, it allows you to put in practice positive human relationships, and it enables you to plan and organize individual and team work.
Finally, with tasks we can practice and reinforce the skills learned in a particular class, and put into practice concepts and skills. Another advantage is that they are a mean to develop creativity, initiative and ingenuity. Currently, many schools are characterized by motivating students in the field of robotics, and computer science, which leads to research, analysis and the development of methods to perform assigned tasks. I think it is important to assign tasks that allow us to expand our knowledge, and we can put into practice what we learn in our classes.
