PHOTOVOLTAIC CELLS

The  use  of  sun  control  and  shading  devices  is  an  important  aspect  of  many  energy-­‐efficient  building  design  strategies.  In  parAcular,  buildings  that   employ  passive  solar  heaAng  or  daylighAng  osen  depend  on  well-­‐designed  sun  control  and  shading  devices.   Ecological  Features   -­‐  Heat  exchangers  recover  and  reuAlize  warm  air  not  expelled  through  the  dome.     -­‐  Intelligent  windows'  comprise  a  manually  operated  inner  layer  and  security-­‐laminated  outer  layer  which  draws  in  fresh  air  via  venAlaAon  joints   -­‐  Renewable  vegetable  bio-­‐fuel  burned  in  a  co-­‐generator  produces  clean  electricity,  reducing  annual  carbon  dioxide  output  by  94  percent.   -­‐  Surplus  heat  stored  in  natural  aquifer  provides  hot  water  for  heaAng.   -­‐  Cold  water  is  stored  below  ground  to  provide  cooling  via  chilled  ceilings  in  hot  weather.   -­‐  Photovoltaic  cells  cover  square  meters  on  the  south  roof.

The river stones cladding the façades are held in place by stainless steel cages. The juxtaposition of shiny steel and stone, whose texture and shades change with the light and weather conditions, creates varying visual perspectives.

The Gerbido incinerator is a municipal solid waste combustion plant. The heat generated from the combustion is recovered and converted into electrical and thermal energy which supplies the city electric power and teleheating networks.
