IS GREEN FROM SUSTAINABLE DESIGN TO LAST-GENERATION TRAINS, FROM THE MOST INNOVATIVE STATIONS TO THE RECOVERY OF UNUSED RAILWAYS. THE FS ITALIANE GALAXY IS VERY ECO-FRIENDLY
Trains produce 70% less greenhouse gases than airplanes and 60% less than cars. For instance, each person who chooses a high-speed train in place of driving from Rome to Milan avoids to release more than 40 kilos of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. In addition, choosing to travel by train means being able to purchase a fully digital ticket, which is quicker, cheaper, and more practical. Thanks to the e-ticket system, last year 45 million passengers avoided using 120 tonnes of paper – stacked together, they would be
one and a half higher than Mont Blanc (not to mention all other printed material related to the distribution and printing of old tickets). The tickets that are printed, in any case, are compliant with the Forest Stewardship Council® standards, and use cellulose from forests managed according to responsible processes. Environmental performances are under constant scrutiny in all activities of FS Group. The Sustainability Committee encourages increasingly responsible development.

Travelling has a cost – not only for travellers, but for the environment as well. Moving around by train is the best way to respect the planet. The transportation system is the industrial sector that consumes the greatest amount of energy and releases in the atmosphere the highest amounts of carbon dioxide. In this scenario, however, trains are an exception. Every single day, running trains mean tens of thousands of cars and lorries not on the roads, therefore reducing the emission of hazardous substances.
