Foreword

The efforts that a group of professionals must undertake to write a national guideline are not easily understood by those who have never participated in such a project. There are individual and shared assignments as well as communication and logistical barriers to overcome. There is an enormous responsibility that accompanies the systematic review of the literature to include all relevant manuscripts, and the inevitable time that comes, even as the guideline is going to press, when you wonder if somewhere a critical manuscript is nearing completion. The fact that this important body of work goes to press a single calendar year after the inaugural meeting is nothing short of incredible and is a testament to the complete commitment of those who wrote it. Having been a part of both national and international guideline projects in the past, I warmly applaud this scholarly piece as an important contribution to the scientific literature. The Handbook of Prevention of Skin Lesions: Evidence-based Recommendations is unique in that it is the very first guideline for the prevention of all skin lesions. It is a compilation of evidencebased recommendations for the protection of the integumentary system. Included are recommendations for the prevention of pressure ulcers, the protection of skin related to the use of adhesives, the prevention of friction injuries, and interventions
