The Annual Edison 2017 Family Survey went home in the Wednesday packets last week. Please complete nd one survey per family and return it to school by June 2 . Our Edison Site Council conducts our own family survey every year to gather parent feedback and help guide our work for the coming year. We appreciate your time in giving us feedback so we can better serve our community. If you did not get an initial copy or need a new one, come by the front office or get a copy on line from this week’s eblast or epacket. Visit the Book Fair! Edison’s end-of-year Book Fair is open through May 25 in the Edison Library. The Book Fair is open before school until 9:00 am and from 1:30 pm to 6:00 pm. On May 25 (Open House) Book Fair will be open until 6:30 pm and then again from 7:30-8:30 pm Stock up on your Summer reads with titles from Mrs. Nelson’s Book Fair and LA Libreria. Thursday, May 25 – Minimum Day for All and Open House for Preschool, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades. Please note that minimum days have different dismissal times for Preschool, TK and K. These grades will dismiss at 12:25 pm on Thursday. All other grades follow the regular Wednesday dismissal time.

The Música en Español and 3rd-4th grade Chorus Programs with Maestra Jacqueline Fuentes are both ending st

this week. Please join your Pre-K, TK, K and 1 grade children for concerts in Room 109 on either Monday or Friday at their regular music time. Our Edison Site Council makes this program possible with funding from the Stretch Grant that Edison receives from SMMEF. The PS ARTS Visual and Theater Arts Program with Maestra Martha Ramirez-Oropeza is also ending this week. th This program is made possible by a grant from SMMEF. 5 Graders are finishing up a couple visual arts projects with Maestra Martha over the next few days. Thanks for the support from SMMEF and the Edison Site Council.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK: WINDING DOWN THE SCHOOL YEAR As I write these lines, we are 14 days away from the end of the school year! Teachers are finishing up year-end reading, math, and writing assessments and students are wrapping up final projects and reports. Third and fourth graders have finished state th testing and 5 graders will take their science test this week -- and then it’s just make up exams for anyone who was absent. Some grade levels will have teachers out of the classroom for a day or half day over the next two weeks as they conduct 1:1 reading assessments or score math or writing assessments. This is one of the best ways for us to measure student growth so we ask for your understanding and support of this assessment time. There are also lots of culminating projects and concerts in the next two weeks and we hope that you can join us to celebrate your children’s accomplishments. Preschool, TK, Kindergarten and First Grade children are all having year-end music informances in Room 109 with Maestra Jacqueline on Monday, May 22 and rd Friday, May 26. Maestra Alvarez’ 3 graders are having their Recorder Concert on Monday, May 22 at 8:30 am in Room 208. The Fourth and Fifth Grade Spring Concerts are being held in the th Edison Cafeteria on Tuesday evening May 23 -- 4 graders th th perform at 6:30 pm and 5 graders at 7:30 p.m. 5 graders are finishing up their Science Fair projects to share with their parents rd the night of Open House (5/25) and 3 graders are putting the finishing touches on their Wax Museum performances to be given on Friday morning, June 2 right after drop off. If you’ve never seen an Edison Wax Museum, linger a little and interact with the “live exhibits” in the Cafeteria Courtyards! On Saturday, June 3 we are hosting a unique event – an Immersion High School Graduation celebration for parents and students who started off at Edison together 13 years ago. We keep in contact with a lot of our former students -- they come before and after school to volunteer, help out at community events, visit former teachers, etc. But some have moved away and we’ve lost touch. What makes this celebration so special is that most of these young adults and their families reunite to share the highlights of their years as immersion students and tell us about their plans for after high school. It’s a wonderful celebration of roots and wings and a real family feeling. Join us if you can! May 25 – Open House for Preschool and Grades 3-4-5 5:30 pm for Dinner Sales (hosted by 1st grade) and Bookfair; 6:307:30 Class Visits and 5th Grade Science Fair
