Monday 23rd September 2013 Dear Parent/Carer, Following my welcome letter, this is my first weekly newsletter and they will go out every Monday from now on. I would like to start by congratulating the staff and pupils as we are now at the beginning of week 4 and everyone is working extremely hard and the school has a calm and very friendly atmosphere. I was lucky enough to have a spare hour last Thursday and had a great time in 4SR’s Inspire workshop. The focus was Maths and Mr Rimmer got everyone playing a range of Maths games. Thank you to the parents and carers who were able to come and I was impressed by the many creative answers that Year 4 gave. We played a range of levelled homework Maths games that the children can take home and we also played games from the Maths Zone on the Woodlands Junior School website, which all children love. This website has excellent games for practising Maths at home and most of these games have an element of competition which helps children develop their skills in mental addition, subtraction, division, times tables and other number skills such as doubling and halving. Harvest Festival Our Harvest Festival is on Tuesday 15th October at 2:30 pm. It will be held in the school hall this year as St Benedict’s church is about to undergo some renovations and will be closed for a while. Parents are very welcome to attend and we will be supporting the Glastonbury Foodbank as our charity this year (further details to follow). Each class will make a short contribution to the service and we hope that you are able to attend.

Meet the Headteacher I will be holding an early session at 8:50 on Friday 4th October and a later meeting at 2:45 on Monday 7th October. These informal meetings will be an opportunity for parents to discuss the future development of the school and how parents/carers can help our work. I am keen to involve parents in developing the school grounds and ‘big Art’ projects. These sessions will be very informal and there will be tea, coffee and biscuits provided. I hope you can make it.
