Justin’s work evokes a delicate balance between isolation and companionship. With a background in film and graphic design, Justin works using a variety of media, including paint, oil pens, ink, and often combines traditional painting with contemporary abstract techniques. His latest works consisting of paintings on wood and canvas have been described as dimensional layouts of echoing harmonics and distorted body forms creating an organic abstract feel. “I work on 5 to 6 different paintings at a time. I may be working on a piece for a week or so and one day my style and technique just don’t feel the same as it did the day before. My lines are shorter, my colors are darker, and the flow is different. So when this happens I will turn to a new piece and start working on another painting all together. It took me years to learn to have the patience to actually be able to walk away from the painting and start something new.” Justin’s talent is to work patiently, he unwearyingly spends time on each of his artworks. His love and devotion for his work leads him to create a better piece of art each time. “Learning to work patiently has let me put down the paint brush on a specific piece and move to something else until one day I feel that same style and technique again then I go back and work on that painting again.” For Justin finishing his painting is not the only concern, he wants to make an art work that has value and fundamental structure. “Sometimes it is just a day or so, others it can take months. One of the hardest things to do as an abstract artist is to keep a consistent style and flow to a piece. Whether its minimalistic or organized chaos, the consistency throughout my painting is something I’m always striving for.” “Having the patience to put something away and come back to it is always frustrating but such an interesting challenge. It’s really lets me enjoy the creative process, understand where my inspirations come from and how to tackle each new piece learning from the last.” The time that he puts on each painting is a value of his work, his painting can range anywhere from about 2 months to 2 years to finish. Beyond painting Justin did more in his career, he worked with Twentieth Century Fox as a film editor, supervisor of design, field producer and press Junket Director for eight years. Justin currently lives in Long Beach, California where he continues to work on his master pieces. 5 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM • April 2012

We all create our reality with our thoughts and feelings....literally from the Inside--out! Our feelings and thoughts manifest into what we call our “reality,” in other words, our “life situations/experiences,” or whatever you wish to call them. Sounds like a big responsibility, but whether you wish to realize this, or ignore it, it IS a choice, as is everything. If we relax into the knowing that we are responsible for our life, then we have the power to change it. Blame to others and to situations that cause problems only leaves us feeling powerless, and actually renders us powerless (as you cannot give away anything that you do not “own”). For, as said in the movie, “The Secret,” by Rhonda Bryne, “Whether you think you can’t or can...either way you are right.” By taking the initial step of consideration that our thoughts and feelings do indeed create our reality, you have begun to start the experience of a wonderful, joyful, abundant and happy life...that is, once you get the true “feeling” of understanding. Our thoughts are unlimited, and hence, so are we. We are true reflections of God, which is Love...the Source of Everything, and the only “Real” and true Energy in the Universe....Life, Love, Truth, Abundance, Peace....all these things are God, and we are That. We, therefore, have that “creative” power to create our reality, and we do that simply, effortlessly, and oftentimes, without realization that we are creating our reality, literally all the time! We will create reactively and unconsciously, that is, until we don’t; until we are conscious of that truth. The upcoming articles and “Spiritual Advice Column” in the months to come are intentioned to inform, give to our community, to all of you, to uplift the plant’s consciousness, to create a better Now....which is actually giving to myself also, as we are all connected...truly there is only One Supreme Being sitting here, and our reality consists of that glorious Being manifested into individual units of Loving Energy, called “Souls,” “Life Forms,” Spirits, etc. We are all on this journey together, to discover this wonderful realization and then to manifest the most glorious experience of Life possible! This, I know for sure. Connecting to Source, realizations will occur....we can all do this, and we do...the only question is are we doing this consciously or unconsciously? The more awareness we place on what we feel and think, the more we will be able to create Consciously, rather than unconsciously, or reactively. Join me to view some realizations that have literally occurred from “The Inside---Out!” Ellen Heller, MSCP 9 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM • April 2012

Many wonder…what does that really mean? We hear it quite often we will do something, until we do not. It means that until we realize what we are ‘Being, ’in every moment; until we are aware, we will continue to do the same thing over and over and over again…without fail, until we finally ‘get it.’ So, getting back to this ‘feeling good/ feeling bad situation…when we feel bad, we are literally, and I mean LITERALLY, projecting ourselves into a different dimension…yes, you read correctly, a different DIMENSION….meaning that how we ‘FEEL’ vibrates at certain frequencies, and we literally project ourselves into a dimension that looks like the same place, but is quite different. We are Energy. We are a completely Loving Energy. What we feel we create, that is, we transport ourselves into a dimension that matches our ‘feelings,’ and that can be very bad or very good. And in each dimension, different outcomes, different events occur; also different treatment from the same person can change, and does. Question: I keep having money problems what’s going on with me? I understand the concept of our thoughts create, but I keep thinking how much I want to create money, and I just don’t...WHY? From: “Waiting for More” Answer: Dear “Waiting for More:” Your thoughts are creative, and the actual statement you wrote was that you ‘want’ to create money.’ The act of ‘wanting’ is the act of lack; therefore your statement is I lack to create money! This is not a matter of word games, but rather a feeling vibration that you are in a state that does not have money. The more you think that, write it, talk about it, the more it is your reality.

And the truth of this is that how you feel about what you say is what really matters, (that is what manifests, literally turns into ‘matter!’). So if you are stating gratitude but all the while FEELING ungrateful, nothing will change until you actually feel those feelings of gratitude and thankfulness.

A wonderful book to read is “Conversations With God, Book 1,’ by Neale Donald Walsch. There is a chapter in that book which goes into much further detail regarding money, and abundance in general, and tools in helping to create what you desire. How to change this? Question: My dad never gave me but one present my entire life. Now, as an adult, I keep bringing men into my life that are either cheap with me, or just do not provide for me in that they loose their jobs, have money problems themselves, or just yell at me when I spend. What is the difference between what I experienced as a child and this ‘metaphysical stuff?’ Am I just repeating, psychologically, what I was taught or am I Spiritually ‘creating’ this situation for myself as some karmic debt, etc.? From: “Confused”

You have even given it a label, calling it ‘psychological’ in nature as to why you are experiencing this situation over and over again. Or at least, it’s a question as to how you are trying to figure out the best way to ‘look’ at this and solve it. Let’s look at it from a metaphysical point of view. Your having a father such as that CAN be an opportunity to demonstrate your own generosity to others, and to your own children. It can also be an ‘awakening’ to what fear looks like, and to choose to never have a thought of lack again. For truly what shows up around you, is you doing that to you. WHY BLAME BADGERS? By Sally Morningstar

“I can’t understand how anybody who’s looked at the science would say this is a good idea.” Professor John Krebs Photo by Sally Morningstar 14 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM • April 2012

You may have been following the news in the UK about British badgers, and the cull that is going ahead in 2 counties during August/September 2012 in West Somerset and West Gloucestershire. Despite massive opposition and against both expert and scientific advice, this Government is adamantly holding to its plan. The question is – why? Why single out the badger (a protected species) when the M.bovis bacillus is also found in rats, mice, water voles, moles, deer and foxes? Why focus solely upon cattle when farmed deer, boar, bison, buffalo, goats, sheep, pigs, llamas and alpacas can also be affected? And in domestic animals - dogs, cats and horses too! In 2009/10 the tax payer paid £87 million to address the bovine TB issue in the UK and even though the Krebs Report (an independent scientific review -1997) advised that “the best prospect for control of TB in the British herd is to develop a cattle vaccine” most of the focus has been on developing a vaccine for badgers. Any progress on inoculating cattle in the UK against TB is also being hindered by current EU legislation, that won’t accept vaccinated cattle. I am not anti farmers nor am I unsympathetic to their situation. I am, however, deeply sceptical of the overall ethics of the intensive agricultural industry. TB is endemic and so it is highly unlikely to ever be totally eradicated. By far the best approach to guard against it in the British herd is to ensure a natural lifestyle and strong immunity. It actually doesn’t take much research before everything points to intensive farming practices, cases of

poor husbandry, inadequate testing and treatment methods for TB in cattle and unnatural changes to the cows’ diet as being the most likely causes - rather than the badger. DEFRA (Dept. for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs) states that “vaccination of cattle against bovine TB, used in conjunction with existing TB control measures, could have benefits in reducing the prevalence, incidence and spread of TB in the cattle population and could also reduce the severity of a herd breakdown regardless of whether infection is introduced by wildlife or cattle.” Peter Smith, Chief Executive of Wildwood Trust, who has a Degree in Medical Biochemistry, told me that evidence from around the globe has shown that effective test and cull programmes and animal movement restrictions are effective in controlling M. Bovis. The Area Eradication Scheme in the UK was chiefly responsible for the control and eradication of M. Bovis and its reintroduction is the best way of controlling the disease. He says that one has to ask the question why DEFRA have not reintroduced the scheme and why the National Farmers Union (NFU) has lobbied so hard, and so effectively, not to have it re-introduced to their own long term detriment. The simple statistic needing to be understood is that M.bovis is more prevalent in badgers in areas of high density of cattle. This is pretty good evidence that cattle give M.bovis to badgers. He says there has also been a change in the diet of our national herd with introduced concentrate derived from soya and palm oil husks. This change in diet is suspected by many farmers to cause cattle to reduce their immune 15 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM • April 2012

farming industry does not have to address its own self-inflicted problems and pay for them itself. He says “It suits the large landowning lobby groups like the (NFU) and Country Landowners Association (CLA) to implicate badgers for TB instead of addressing the husbandry and intensification issues that are occurring in farming today.”

And the only carrot we can possibly give them is culling badgers” Peter Smith – Chief Executive, the Wildwood Trust

Peter believes that it is not their intention to tackle M.bovis or even to eradicate badgers but to keep badgers in the headlines to deflect criticism from the farming industry. He says “One has to ask the question - does the NFU represent all farmers or just a narrow group of large landowners and their lobbying efforts?” In support of Peter’s position, Professor John Bourne who is Chair of the Independent Scientific Group on Bovine TB has stated “first; while badgers are clearly a source of cattle TB, careful evaluation of our own and others’ data indicates that badger culling can make no meaningful contribution to cattle TB control in Britain. Indeed, some policies under consideration are likely to make matters worse rather than better. Second, weaknesses in cattle testing regimes mean that cattle themselves contribute significantly to the persistence and spread of disease in all areas where TB occurs, and in some parts of Britain are likely to be the main source of infection. Scientific findings indicate that the rising incidence of disease can be reversed and geographical spread contained, by the rigid application of cattle-based control measures alone”.

In light of the above information, it behoves us all to do everything we can to protect badgers from such a seemingly devious and inappropriate agenda. The Welsh Assembly has just announced that it will not be going ahead with a cull in Wales, but will be taking the vaccination route instead, which is wonderful news. The Badger Trust has filed a legal challenge to the cull in England. Please help them to help the badgers by donating to Professor Bourne (AVTRW looks at the the cause. 17 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM • April 2012

when u allow yourself to feel an emotion it will feel heightened as you shine the light of your awareness directly on it. it may naturally want to express itself. if its sadness you may cry a lot, more than you are used to, as previously you would withhold or try deny or suppress it, to think your way out of it. It’s good to think positive but not as a means to distract yourself from what’s already there. Just be aware not to create more NEW hurt thru sorrowful hopeless negative thoughts. This applies to any other emotion as well as sadness. If anger is present in you, then you may feel the energy of it surging inside you, anger can have very strong energy in it, it can be very helpful to express this without hurting others or yourself, rather than let the energy of it bubble up inside you, its good to let it out. Meanwhile, keep the knowing that it is there and know that you are consciously expressing it, do something vigorous, depending on where you are, you can do a number of things. You could do a bunch of press-ups or sit-ups and cuss under your breath if you have deep hurt and anger towards someone. Don’t mean the person any true harm but just consciously vent and let it out to help yourself heal and release. If you do all of this consciously, then it is almost like you are doing an enactment, you are giving yourself deliberate permission to do things you may normally withhold because society has said its “good” to not show anger, good to not cry, good to keep things in. Cussing or shouting in a pillow or even in your house if nobody is around for eg, may seem rather funny to you, unusual yet wonderfully enlightening, releasing, refreshing, you may giggle, smile and laugh even whilst letting out your pent up emotions, for all of these reasons, you may walk or run up and down the stairs or on the spot if you are stuck indoors or with children, or go out for a run or brisk walk. You could use the energy for good by doing lots of house cleaning like vacuuming, the trick is to be aware during all of this, of where you are, your body, and especially any thoughts going thru your head. Don’t add any more pain thru judgmental thoughts, thru resistance. dont resist the fact you feel emotional, allow it, accept it, be ok with it. Hold the space of knowing, even while you express and enact, don’t judge yourself in any way, unless its knowing that you are doing a wonderful thing for yourself and your friends and family and society. You are taking responsibility for your emotions, rather than blaming it on others, invite forgiveness, open your heart. embrace full healing.

Connecting with Gorilllas By; Michele Billman

There is something special about sharing your day with wild animals, especially the exotic ones like gorillas. Gorillas have always fascinated and frightened me all at the same time. Seeing them in person is very exciting since they can be so unpredictable. 22 THEDENMAGAZINE.COM • April 2012

Looking back at three different gorilla encounters I’ve had over the years, I’ve noticed these animals know when their observers have a good understanding of their connection to their Higher Power Source. As I matured in my spirituality the animals became more comfortable being around me. My first Gorilla encounter was in an enclosed “Rain Forest” building designed for the visitor to feel like they are in the animals environment. The exhibit was new so the lines of people waiting to see the animals was very long and a very slow moving process. The humidity in the building was incredible. I am sure all the rain forest birds, insects, amphibians felt right at home. I, on the other hand, was feeling stifled from the heat and from the loud excited voices from the people bouncing off all the walls. As I got closer to the gorilla exhibit my heart started racing from anticipation viewing one of the largest primates in the world while interacting with each other in their familiar surroundings. I rounded the bend and saw one large male Silverback Gorilla about 30 feet away in a cement and glass enclosure. There were a few exercise tires and ropes for him to climb on and a few rocks for him to sit and lay upon. This enormous graying gorilla sat on a large boulder like was watching TV. He was propped up on one elbow and legs stretched straight forward. The lone gorilla looked out into the crowd as if he was searching for some intelligent life forms. He passively watched the crowd watching him. I was floored by the sparseness of his cage.

All the efforts of creating a Rainforest was placed around his observers, so they have the rainforest experience but not for the gorilla to feel at home. My heart went out to the gorilla as he sat on his boulder, I silently apologized to him for having a dismal home. The gorilla’s head slowly moved in my direction as if he heard someone speak to him within his mind but not sure who. His eyes still scanning the crowd, I silently told him if I had a book to offer him I would freely give it to him so he had something else to do besides being bored. His eyes locked onto mine and stared deeply into my soul. I could tell I was in the presence of a profoundly intelligent being. The gorilla’s spirit accepted my apology and chuckled at the thought of himself reading a book. He told me “the crowd would go wild seeing him so civilized”. He said “don’t worry and that he would be OK”. The continuous line of people forced me to keep moving along. The aging gorilla’s eyes followed me as I moved from his enclosure. I hated to leave him all alone and misunderstood, he deserved better. His intelligent eyes still haunt me today even 30 years later. It was as if he understood the sacrifice he was making to help the rest of us to evolve into better human beings. My second gorilla encounter was more intimate than just seeing one from afar. This gorilla was a large male Silverback too but he was younger and had just a bit of gray on his back. He was alone in his glass enclosure but he did have 23 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM • April 2012

access to nature, grass and sunshine was part of his environment. The lonely gorilla sat pitifully in the grass looking down at the ground. In my mind I told him that I would love to give him a Reiki energy healing to help cheer him up but he had to move closer. I had just received my Reiki I & II training about a month prior to this zoo trip. I was anxious to try out my Reiki on a wild animal, especially one that could use a gentle touch of loving energy. He stubbornly sat in the farthest corner ignoring us. My young son, Jacob, wanted to move toward the train ride since the sad gorilla was making him feel uncomfortable. I told the gorilla to be ready for me when I come back from the train ride and to be sitting by the glass. I said a quick prayer for the gorilla to feel better and to trust me. As my family and I was walking into the train station I started mentally preparing myself for the gorilla’s healing session. The train ride went right past the gorilla’s enclosure, we could see his graying broad back. You could tell he could feel everyone’s eyes staring at him when his hairs on his back bristled up as we passed by. He was still sitting in the same corner where we left him. I felt that he wanted to be alone in his thoughts and craved his privacy. He scratched at his back and looked annoyed as the train whistle blew loudly. I mentally started the healing session for him in order to calm his nerves. Walking back from the train ride I was pleased to see the gorilla had moved from his contemplation corner and was sitting with his back against the glass! I was thankful that there was no one else 24 THEDENMAGAZINE.COM • April 2012

but us around his area. I asked for his permission for receiving my Reiki energy, he looked at me from the corners of his eyes then closed his eyes as if to say, “I’m ready to receive”. The gorilla’s spine elongated as I mentally drew the sacred Reiki symbols down his back. He looked up and back acknowledging the healing energy, he calmly closed his eyes and relaxed his back by pushing heavily against the glass. My hands and the grand Silverback Gorilla’s back were only separated by a few inches of glass. I could feel my energy merging with his through the glass creating a comforting cocoon. As each minute passed by, the gorilla’s shoulders lowered inch by inch and I could see his neck muscles extend upward. His healing session was interrupted by a clap of thunder off in the distance. He was so relaxed that the impending thunderstorm didn’t bother his ragged nerves. The gorilla turned around and faced my family and I. He looked us in the eye for a split second then trotted off to his area where he was protected from the bad weather. I told him thank you for trusting and for sharing himself with me. All I could do was hope and pray that I made a positive impression on him. I also prayed that other people would see him as a spiritual being and not just a thing to look at while visiting him. My third encounter with a gorilla was with a young male that was watching over another very young gorilla. I was a Reiki Master by then and attuned my whole family to the healing energy.

We are in an interrelated and interconnected world and universe. Life is all

about relationships because everything is connected. That is why we have the need to connect. Most of is the rocket of desire to connect deeper to our higher self and the source whatever you refer to it is; god, spirit, source, bramha etc. Cultivating Appreciation is a Way of LIFE! Cultivating Appreciation is being able to experience joy and happiness via; sharing, giving and receiving fully. This is the beginning. An appreciative person accepts all of life as a gift. We know that we are enough and have enough and there is enough for all and in the sharing we really can enjoy the gift of life. We learn to be just happy with life as it is. Yes we can always go deeper but as we focus on the inner joys that are a consistent stream and vibration, we see how we find joy in moving away from the exterior or temporary, impermeable experience and material goods. We find richer fulfillment just enjoying our present experience instead of living in the future and past.

It is not scientifically possible. Yes, indeed we can plan out things to make things happen. But when do you plan them out? You plan out life right now. Everything comes from a starting place. Source Potentiality is like an ocean. There are so many vast and infinite possibilities.

The Ocean is likened to Pure Source. There is a moment when something arises and a single point is initiated. It is thus fueled by some feeling, or thought. It grows, and then begins to become a wave of manifestation. Does the EARTH Think? 30 THEDENMAGAZINE.COM • April 2012

What if the planet thought in a way that was similar to us? First of all we would have to work with the concept that it had a consciousness. Much like we do but very different. We have neuron pathways in our brain. Within these pathways, electricity is used to send and receive signals to our body and back from our nerves helping us feel and collect sensory data. What if the planet had its own way of thinking, of sending and receiving data? What if the pathways it had within its brain per say were all of the communications we have on the planet. Let’s pretend that every phone call, e mail, satellite and radio broadcast was seen as an electrical line moving from one point to the next. That every television show and voice mail, text message and instant message were like giant arcs from one point of the earth to the next. Now, if we looked at the electrical currents moving through our brain and saw all of the neuron pathways lit up like arcs of electricity we would see a similarity. We would have to picture the planet’s brain as also being its body instead of just its head, but we can get an idea of how this might look. What this would mean is that the planet would have to be retrieving data on many levels. Again let us look at our body. Billions and billions of cells make up our body, nerves, organs, tissue ECT. Every time we experience something as simple as picking up a glass of water or driving a car millions of these cells had to live and

die in order to send signals to our nerves, from our nerves to our brain and from our brain back to our body creating an experience and a thought, i.e. Feeling the glass of water and putting it back down. Let’s move back to the earth. What if every iving thing on the planet acted like cells that created nerves that allowed the earth to feel and send data? These cells living and dying as a collective to provide it with one consciousness. Let’s say that this would be the planet feeling its body and retrieving sensory data. Now let us look at the process of thought. If we are the cells sending data back and forth throughout the body of the earth wouldn’t our communications be like sending these signals through the neuron pathways of the planet’s brain? Imagine that every time we got online, or sent an e mail or made a cell phone call that was a thought for the planet. Let us look at the possibility that the planet in a way is experiencing its own day to day life. If our collective experience make up the planet’s sensory than what would it be like for the planet to think? What if every book, poem, religion or even movie was a thought within the mind of the planet? We could assume that every great movement of civilization, from the discovery that the earth was round, to the latest frontiers of quantum physics was the planet contemplating its own existence. With this thought in mind one could see how a wave could be created.

A thought ripple that effects the fabric of the earth’s consciousness. Look at the effect of religion on the planet. Each generation of cells, or people interpreting and refining the philosophical concepts from one generation of cellular life to the next. So looking at our communications on the planet like the thought of the planet, we can see how the earth might be going through its own evolution of thought. At first, the cells on the planet (people) communicated through oral history and then writing. Over time their communications advanced. By the time mankind was able to achieve radio communications the amount of information traveling from one cell to the other had multiplied exponetionally. We know that the rate of technological advancement now is 100 times faster than it was one hundred years ago.

on a macro level. From this point the possibilities are endless. With these thoughts and the limitless horizons they propose are we reflecting as species, or are we truly part of a much larger thought. IS the Earth thinking, pondering its existence? Is it just now becoming a mature being? Of course these analogies could seem crude , but just as we became sentient beings, through higher thought and self reflection so might the planet. Is the Earth, reflecting, experiencing, pondering its existence? And as we are pondering this thought does that mean the earth is also pondering it? If it is all one process of experience then maybe the Earth really does think.

Could this be an indication of not just us evolving but the planet’s mind evolving? Let us now take into consideration the internet. With this theory in place the amount of e mails and information traveling almost instantaneously from hemisphere to hemisphere is daunting. With technology creating this global community could this be a turning point in the awakening of the Earth’s consciousness? An even more amazing concept is at this time in history when our communication is so rapid is that perhaps certain concepts within movies that truly affect the consciousness of man are in fact self reflections for the planet. It is conceivable that just as we provide the sensory for the planet to experience life that as we reflect on concepts on a micro level that is the planet reflecting 32THEDENMAGAZINE.COM • April 2012
