Principal’s Message Kia ora, Kia orana, Namaste, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Ni hao ma, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Asalam alikum!

Thank you Our very special thanks go to the Rotary Club of Epsom for their very generous donation this week of a cheque for $1000 (part of the proceeds from their 2012 book fair). The money is to be used for supporting literacy, buying books for Edendale reading programmes and our school library. We very much appreciate the on-going support given to us by Epsom Rotary and hope our families will support their annual book fairs. I know that I am already sorting for books to add to the 2013 Rotary Book Fair.

Garden To Table In gardening classes we have been up close with sap-sucking insects and their predators. The children observed these insects through magnifying glasses so they could identify them. They also drew a picture and labelled them. Many enthusiastic biologists by the looks! On the menu in cooking classes this week were Italian feasts, Potato gnocchi with sautéed rainbow chard and leeks, served with a side of fennel gratin. Fennel has turned out to be very popular with Year 5 and 6 students! Room 24 has been very busy with their construction of the 'greenhouse'. It’s now completed and looks amazing. Take a peek behind the Years 5-6 classes to see it. We're itching to get some plants in there, but will wait until the official opening. Room 24 also hosted one of NZ's best chefs Jonny Schwass, and Garden to Table's Catherine Bell in their cooking class. Jonny enjoyed cooking with the boys and seeing their culinary skills. Jonny was in Auckland to cook for the Garden to Table Gala Dinner, held to raise funds for the projects across New Zealand. Thanks boys for making him so welcome, we hope you learned some secret cooking tips from him too! Please email if you have any questions. Jodie, Sarah and Kim

Junior School Concert A big thank you to all the students, staff and parent helpers who helped make the Junior School Concert such a great success. Our students really enjoyed performing for such appreciative audiences. We received overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents / visitors after the show and only two grumbles. Your comments / emails have been passed on to staff and students. Thank you!

News from Edendale’s PTA Movie Night Edendale Primary held a Movie Night Fundraiser on Sunday 26th of August! It was a fun and indulgent night enjoyed by all who participated in the fundraiser. We raised $1970.55 which will really help towards extra resources and educational opportunities for the children, i.e. class trips, sports uniforms, shows and school equipment, Garden to Table, etc. Most recently we have helped with senior camp fees and paid for Sonshine Ranch and choir buses. A big thank you to all those on the PTA and the other wonderful people who worked so hard to make the night such a great success! Some of our local businesses were also big contributors to the success of our fundraiser. If you are able to, please show your appreciation by supporting these businesses.
