Tranquility captured
If we learnt anything throughout the Corona Virus crisis, it is the importance of family, health and the place we call home. Never have most of us spent so much time in it. The family home became our gym, our office, our beauty salon, local café, movie theatre and classroom. If you are currently in the process of building a new home and making all those important selections put plenty of thought into how you want your new home to look, feel and function. Think back over this time of hibernation and what did you wish for in the place you were or are still living in. A bigger study? A more luxurious ensuite? A home with better tech capabilities? Perhaps more storage? A bigger outdoor space? A home cinema?
Now is the time to act. The team at Home Option Gallery want you to love your new home. The home has to be the one place where you feel safe. It has to be a place you can work in, cook in, sleep in and most of all enjoy being in. 2020 has taught us that moving forward our home must be a functional sanctuary. The team at Home Option Gallery provide you with the very latest products and services so building a beautiful new home is a stress free and positive experience. The end result is a home that you will be happy to be “stuck in” for a long time.

AIM HIGH Escea raises the bar in fireplace design. A beautiful fireplace will contribute to the overall presentation of a room. It provides a great focal point and immediately adds warmth not just literally but aesthetically to an interior space.

When you think of grand winter resorts or cozy winter getaways, the one feature you really want to see is a luxuriously large fireplace. Why? Because it draws you in, appeals to the senses and makes even the most contemporary of interiors feel welcoming and intimate. The new DF990 gas fireplace coming from Escea is nothing short of magnificent giving you every reason to have a winter resort at home. Already known for wide fireplace designs (their widest is nearly two metres!), this latest design from Escea has gone to another level. The DF990 has been expanded vertically, with a glass window height of 760mm. Teamed with a traditional mantle this show stopper will make a big bold statement. The beauty of having such a significant fireplace is that it will never lose its appeal. Unlike big art works or large pieces of furniture that may lose their style factor, a classic fireplace will always have its place even if the dÊcor around it changes with time. The beauty of the DF 990 is that it suits big spaces and in modern house design where one room almost spills on to another, a small fireplace can look pokey and underwhelming. However, this fireplace even when it not in operation is bound to make its presence felt. The DF990 features Escea’s Smart Heat technology, allowing you to operate the fireplace from your smartphone; and Flexible Flue technology, giving you greater design freedom with the ability to flue in any direction. Everyone loves heat you can not only feel but see. There is something about the warm glow of flames in a fireplace that makes a space cozy and inviting. The DF 990 gas fireplace by Escea with its striking height, sophisticated presentation and superior performance features will elevate the overall appeal of your room and definitely provide the WOW factor.

The Kitchen Bench THE MOST VERSATILE FIXTURE IN YOUR NEW HOME
The kitchen has always been the heart of the home both physically and metaphorically. It is no surprise that during lock down there was a huge spike in people cooking, baking and generally hanging out in the kitchen. How important a role did the kitchen bench play? Well from zoom meetings to home schooling and on -going meal preps the kitchen bench was a hero.

It is easy to understand why the island bench remains popular in modern kitchen design. With kitchens being open plan and spilling onto living areas sometimes it is hard to distinguish where the kitchen begins and ends. The island bench can serve as that boundary. It has a very significant aesthetic as well as functional purpose.
Gallery MAGAZINE 19
What role do you want your kitchen bench to play? Will it be almost like another furniture piece? Perhaps another table for having breakfast or a morning coffee or maybe another desk for homework or checking emails. Think about how you want it to function and this may help you with other decisions like door handles and cabinetry. A smooth flush appearance gives you ample space to move around it but distinct shelving and door handles will certainly give it character.
I want to Hettich my kitchen. “After seeing your gorgeous new kitchen we’re going to Hettich our entire renovation: kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom!” “Hettich has thought of everything: soft close drawers and doors, designer handles and fabulous lighting.” “I’m off to our local Hettich Endorsed Showroom to get our plans started!” Find your local Hettich Endorsed Showroom at hettich.com.au
Do you want the colour and texture of your island bench to blend with your whole kitchen or make a contrasting statement? Tess Grabler from Kitchen Culture says, “A kitchen bench top is a crucial component of kitchen design. You need a bench top that has adequate space, is durable, easy to clean as well as lovely to look at. Remember this is a feature that is ALWAYS on show.” Tess adds that at Kitchen Culture, clients are loving soft and natural looking options like Carrara, Marmo Bianco and Milano Venato by Essastone. Blending a stone or marble bench top with a timber drop down is especially striking. “This look really provides a strong presence for your kitchen bench and mixing the look of marble, stone or even concrete with the warmth of timber is a winning combination,” says Tess. Designed and crafted in Europe, Essastone encapsulates the superior functionality of engineered stone with beautiful finishes. Essastone benchtops and Laminex cabinetry colour palettes work seamlessly together so you will have absolute peace of finding the perfect partnership. Your kitchen bench has a versatile role to play so give it the VIP attention it deserves.

There is nothing wrong of course with playing it safe for most of your floor and wall tile choices but being a little brave and a little creative can ensure your room will never be described as dull. Tiles have been around for centuries. Ancient cultures of Egypt, Greece, Italy and Spain have been working with tiles for centuries. They were loved for their aesthetic appeal (decorating everything from temples, palaces, homes and as a form of artwork in the form of magnificent murals) as well as their many practical benefits: durability, temperature and chemical resistant, easy to clean‌. In 2020 not much has changed. Tiles are still popular for all these reasons. What has changed is the incredible amount of choice available. Industry leaders Di Lorenzo offer a whole range of diverse and exquisite tiles, so be brave, be bold and make an ordinary space look extraordinary! ARTIGIANA: This is a gorgeous collection suitable for wall application only. Each shell like shape is pressed into a mould one by one and then left to dry for a week. They are then slowly fired for 18 hours and then hand glazed by specialised artisans. After the glazing phase the production ends with a second and last firing phase. Each tile is checked again and selected for its supreme quality. How appropriate that the word art is in its name for Artigiana is indeed a masterpiece collection. MALINA TERRACOTTA BY GATHER CO: These exquisite terracotta tiles have been reclaimed and repurposed from
centuries old abandoned buildings throughout Eastern Europe. Ingrained with stories, they exude character and meaning that cannot be replicated in modern productions. This is what makes them truly unique. In classic designs of hexagon, parquet, square or rectangle and available in light or dark shades, you can be sure this collection will stand the test of time. In essence, it already has. CHYMIA BY LABORATORIO AVALLONE: This collection screams style, pizzazz and the power of both black and white. Chymia is a glazed porcelain tile, comprised of 22 elements in 300 x300 size. There are 11 different structures or patterns available which can be sold individually or as a mix. Black adds understated drama and white is simply pure elegance that never loses appeal. On their own they are enduring but together they are magnificent. ENCAUSTIC PORCELAIN TILES: So on trend right now, encaustic tiles have a history that dates back centuries. They are made up of 2 or more colours or shades and particularly popular are styles with the bold geometric patterns which are less ornate than traditional encaustics. They are great for floors, walls kitchen splashbacks, bathrooms, island fronts, foyers, bench tops and hearths. Greys and taupes are popular but pastel shades of blues and pinks are also favoured. They are often partnered with other tiles or finishes but do have the starring role. Theses tiles are very versatile and easy to maintain and provide the perfect punch to any space. HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT
showerscreen Seven great tips to get it right
The showerscreen plays a vital functional role in any bathroom but just as important is the aesthetic balance it provides to the rest of the bathroom. The following key elements will help you understand how and why this significant feature can really be the difference between a good bathroom and a great bathroom.
1
STYLE
Frameless showerscreens are comprised of unobstructed thick
glass secured by subtle metal clamps or a slimline aluminium frame for low visual impact. They are increasingly popular with interior designers, as they enable the eye to focus on the space’s aesthetics and material choices. Alternatively, semi-framed screens allow for a more defined, structured look. This option offers the best of both worlds – minimally intrusive screens and a wider glass area for a more spacious feeling with reinforced structural support. Stegbar’s Grange collection features slim perimeter frame with crisp defining lines in a modern and minimalist matte black.
2
SHAPE
The traditional sharp angles continue to provide a clean and
clinical look in showerscreens but thanks to new design innovations, curved and rounded shaped screens are also an option. Ideal if you are after a much softer and fluid feel to your bathroom.
3
SPACE
Space is often at a premium in bathrooms. While hinge and pivot
shower door styles require empty space to accommodate their trajectory, sliding and stacking doors move parallel and give more room to move. Stegbar’s Grange slider showerscreens are uniquely designed for spatial efficiency and striking modern style. These frameless doors are designed with minimal visible screw fittings and a corner slider to better utilise space in small rooms.
4
SUPPLEMENATRY STYLING
Hardware and tap ware is very
important for completing the look. Black is definitely the popular choice right now and provides an edgy dramatic feel to the space. Stegbar’s Jett hardware is perfect for a contemporary, industrial look and takes sophistication to a new level. On the other end of the spectrum, chrome or nickel-plated hardware is ideal for a lighter more subtle look that suits a range of décor themes and has enduring style appeal.
38 Gallery MAGAZINE
Gallery MAGAZINE 39
5
SEAL
To best minimise leakage, choose a showerscreen with an
overlapping door and a seal on the opening edge of the door. The overlap will create a barrier that prevents water from spilling out. The seal helps reduce water leakage between the door and the closing panel or jamb. Stegbar has developed overlap showscreens with pivot doors as part of its Grange collection. These semi-frameless structures offer well-constructed framing systems for stability, strength, easy access and elegant style. This pivot design is available with up to 2500 wide openings, and is ideally suited to larger, more opulent designs.
6
SAVINGS
Semi frameless shower screens are becoming extremely
popular as they give a clean, streamlined look without the expense that is associated with a fully frameless option. Stegbar’s Pivot 2000 semi-framed showerscreen has a pivoting door system and features innovative Dri-Guard water seal and magnetic door strips to ensure a secure close, offering a perfect blend of innovation and aesthetics.
7
STRESS-FREE MAINTENANCE AND DURABILITY
Stegbar’s Nanoclean technology reduces cleaning time by up to 90% and decreases
the necessity for harsh chemicals. The coating prevents glass corrosion, lime deposit build-up and is abrasion resistant so it won’t wear down or rub off. It also chemical resistant, repelling both oil-based and water-based substances. It’s also important to consider the longevity of your showerscreens. All Stegbar products are covered by an industry leading warranty to offer peace of mind that a dream look won’t become a nightmare to maintain. While showerscreens may not be the first consideration in bathroom design, they can completely influence the look of the space. Stegbar showerscreens successfully blend style with functionality, which is essential if your bathroom is to stand the test of time.

YOUR HOME IS WORTH MORE THAN ONE EXPERT JAMES TREBLE Interior Designer
If you are building a new home, I doubt you are thinking of doing the plumbing yourself or rendering the façade or tiling the bathroom. You are sensibly leaving it all up to those with these specialised skills. Choosing the right paint colour, tiles, and cabinetry can be overwhelming and these are big- ticket items so getting them wrong can be very costly. Investing in the expertise of a professional interior designer means like any other skilled craftsman, you are paying for knowledge, years of training and knowhow. Most people have a basic idea what they like. Perhaps you want crisp white walls but do you know how many shades of white there are? Maybe you are after a Hampton’s style interior. What tapware or benchtop would complete the look? And there lies the challenge: completing the look. 52 Gallery MAGAZINE
An interior designer can ensure you get everything right from the smallest details to large selections. Peace of mind is invaluable This is not about an interior designer bringing their personal design vision to life but ultimately helping you achieve yours. Building a new home is a lot like a jigsaw puzzle and an interior designer helps you piece it all together for a brilliant end-result. Leading interior designer/decorator James Treble does this for a living. He spearheads amongst many of his projects, the presentation of award winning Eden Brae homes, proof that even award winning home - builders use an interior design expert so their display homes have style longevity.
James has 3 decades of accumulated experience in the Building Industry, Real Estate and Interior Design. He says a great reason to use a professional interior designer is for a cohesive result. There is plenty of specialised advice on paint, tiles, and cabinets but ensuring all these selections, work together is the key.
Building a brand new home is the perfect opportunity to get the home you have always dreamed of and this doesn’t mean everything or anything has to be “top of the range.” In fact, James says, “a successful home is NOT made up of expensive choices but rather clever ones, knowledgeable ones…”
We don’t hesitate to seek out the services of a mechanic for our car or accountant for our taxes or a hairdresser for our hair yet we see an interior designer as a luxury. What we fail to see is that choosing an interior designer can be very cost effective. Sure, you can repaint walls if you get the colour wrong or replace tapware but this can be expensive. If you decide to just make do with your choices then are you really living in your ideal home.
So think about an interior designer just as you would any other professional who saves you time, money and offers you expertise in an area that can be both exciting and overwhelming. For more interior design, advice, hints and tips go to www.jamestreble.com/blog
