President’s Message On Behalf of the Arkansas State Trapshooting Federation Board of Directors, I would like to invite you to the 2016 Arkansas State Trap Shoot. I would like to thank each and every one of the Board Members for their hard work and dedication in making this event one of the best in the country. I would also like to thank Ben Forte and Eddy Kinslow for the many hours spent working on this great program. Ben recruits sponsors for financial support, while Eddy is responsible for putting the program together. Eddy also volunteers his time designing and maintaining the Arkansas State Trapshooting Federation website. It truly does take the entire team working together to be able to produce such a quality event. So, again, I say thank you for all your hard work. I also want to thank our many sponsors for their contributions and donations (listed in the front of the program book). These donations have allowed us to grow so that we can increase the amount we are able to return back to the shooters in the form of added money, trophies, and prizes. As a result our added money this year will increase to $19,400 in-state and $6,800 out-of-state. Also returning this year is the Handicap Jackpot. If you play this option and run 100 straight in the Handicap Championship you will go home with $6200 (ties divide). I challenge you to find a State Shoot of our size anywhere in the country that gives away as much money. For the second year Federal Premium Ammunition is the sponsor for our 3 Championship Events. Other event sponsors include White Flyer, Cabela’s, Bella Vista Sportsmen’s Club and Water Tech. I would also like to welcome Mack’s Prairie Wings as the title sponsor for our AIM Championship on June 21st. When people talk about Arkansas Trapshooting it usually revolves around our youth shooters and this past year was no exception. In fact, this past year’s Clay Target National Champion is one of our very own - Blake Campbell from Greenwood, AR. For one full day Blake crushed every target he saw and outdueled 40 others in a shootoff to become Arkansas’ first Champion since the late Julius Petty did it in 1954. Another one of our youth that set themselves apart this past year was Tanner Cooper. Tanner led the nation in singles average with a 99.50, and was 2nd in the nation in Handicap and Composite average. One thing both of these young men have in common is they got their start in the Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports Program. This program is the breeding ground for Arkansas’ great youth shooting and we are blessed to have it. Last but not least, I would like to thank the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation and the City of Jacksonville for the use of their amazing facilities. Without this great venue, a shoot of our size would not be possible. We hope you can join us at this year’s 2016 Arkansas State Shoot. We would love to see you there. Until then – Keep Your Head Down. Dennis Tune ASTF President

2016 ASTF Hall of Fame Inductee

Alan “Chuck” Sharp Chuck was introduced to trapshooting while attending local turkey shoots in Northwest Arkansas in the early 70’s. By 1972 he was shooting his first registered ATA targets and by 1973 had won the first of his many state trophies, the Arkansas State Handicap Championship. Being a true outdoor sportsman, Chuck loves to hunt and fish. From big game safaris in Africa, brown bear in Alaska, sheep in the Yukon, to bass fishing in Mexico and Cuba, he’s done it all. His greatest passion, though, was and still is wing shooting. Chuck has pursued quail and pheasants all across the Midwest, doves in Argentina, and mallards in the green timber of Arkansas. If it flies, Chuck loves to shoot at it! From 1977 until 2003, except for 1990, Chuck took a 25year break from shooting competitively in order to raise a family and a very successful business. The one year comeback in 1990 was, however, a good one for Chuck, because it showed he hadn’t lost his touch. He won the Class B Singles Championship with a 196 x 200. Chuck has won a total of 35 trophies at the Arkansas State Shoot in 14 years, which include the High-All-Around seven times, HighOver-All five times, and twelve being the State Champion trophies. He has won the State Championship of Singles, 84

Handicap, Doubles, High-All-Around, and High-Over-All at least once. Over the years he has taken a total of 16 Championship trophies at the Southwestern Zone Shoots as well as Doubles Champion R/U after 100 Straight. Chuck has claimed six Championship trophies at the Missouri State Shoot, including Out -of-State Doubles Champion with 100 straight in 2013. Chuck also claimed the Missouri Fall Handicap Doubles Championship with a 99 in 2013. Chuck has won four Grand American trophies, one each in 2007, 2012, 2013, and 2015. Two of the wins at the Grand were for Clay Target Champion Category wins, 2007 for Class AA, and 2012 for Sub-Vet. He fell back to categories after having posted a 200 x 200 in the main events and finishing the main shoot-off as the third man. In 2013 Chuck posted a 499 x 500 in the singles events during Grand week. Chuck says one of his most memorable days was when he broke a 99 in singles, a 99 in Handicap, and a 99 in Doubles at the KCTA Gun Club. He has been selected to the ASTF State Team twelve times, Captain seven times. In 2010 Chuck was the third shooter in the ASTF history to have the highest average in Single, Handicap, and Doubles in the same year. In 2015 Chuck received his AAA-27-AAA recognition from the ATA. Chuck was placed on the ATA All-American Sub-Vet Team in 2016. Chuck was elected President of the ASTF five times and is currently serving as the states’ ATA Delegate. He worked tirelessly as President bringing about many positive changes to the Federation and has given generously of his time and financial support. When asked what achievement he was most proud of during his terms as President, he said, with humble pride, that it was “starting the Sunday morning worship services.” Those that have shot with and know him best are quick to say that Chuck is a true Southern gentleman and yet a fierce competitor who sincerely loves the sport of trapshooting. He has been a most generous and gracious giver of time and talents to those in need and a great steward of the Federation during his five years as our President.

2016 ASTF Hall of Fame Inductee

Tanner Cooper Tanner began trapshooting in the Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports Program at 12 years old in his hometown, Greenwood, Arkansas. Tanner is a member of Pajaro Gun Club where he ran his first 100 straight. Some of Tanner’s best memories took place at Pajaro Gun Club. He then started competing in ATA shoots, and began winning events. In 2014 he broke the all time junior composite average and broke that record again in 2015. On June 21, 2014 Tanner broke 100 straight from the 27 yard line and became the first Arkansas Trapshooter to complete the Grand Slam. There is nothing Tanner enjoys more than competing alongside his friends and family. At the 2014 Grand American, Tanner and his squad were the first junior squad in history to break 500 x 500. In 2015 Tanner had the highest singles average in the ATA. A three time All American, four time state champion, and six national championships before the age of 18, Tanner proudly represents the state of Arkansas and promotes trapshooting at each event. Tanner loves baseball. One of his highlights is hitting a walk off home run in a little league world series. He plays shortstop at Hendrix College where he is pursuing a pharmacy degree. After college he plans on starting his own business, and spending his life shooting, duck hunting, and enjoying the outdoors. 86
