TALES of the new EDGE

This project based on the question of “How to create a public interior in the Bosphorus?”, Kandilli shore was re-analyzed though how water shaped the coast. The project was examined under 3 threads. The first one was to allow more contact between water and the surface of the shore by increasing the indentations on the water edge in order to let organisms in the sea water accumulated on the shore and create a texture. Another one was to make changes to the interior installation of the existing pier structure in order to create use of it though a longer period of time. The last idea was to put the already existing boathouse as the part of the public area.

A Crack in the Library-as a new Pilot Settlement

A Crack in the Library-as a new Pilot Settlement 28

According to Foucault, the second principle of this description of heterotopias is that a society, as its history unfolds, can make an existing heterotopia function in a very different fashion;for each heterotopia has a precise and determined function within a society and the same heterotopia can, according to the synchrony of the culture in which it occurs, have one function or another. When we look at the history of the library, we see that the period and people differ according to their needs and that they appear in many different ways.We see that our relationship is constantly changing. When we live with a very large share of information, our relationship with the library is the opposite of this.We areexperiencing very individual information that we can reach singular. How can the first step find the body in the library. When i begin to leak it back into the library when the information in this historical process feeds on human relations and life there? How long that we can make living in the roof ?This tension will keep till somebody would find us. What can we do in that roof ? How it would be end?

Main theme of our studio was creating urban interiors in Beyoglu as one of the different ways of inhabiting the city of Istanbul. Being a significant land for settlement since Antiquit recreation center of Istanbul for almost 200 years. Various spaces in numerous functions, forms and styles particular to these areas. Although both the social life and buildings face dispersion today the architectural and public character of existing places provide strong references for us. I worked terraces of Bereketzade Is Merkezi in Galata ower Square which is major point of the district. I designed a new alternative place for leisure time that will encourage communication and contribute to increase awareness and sensibility about refined urban spaces. The major facilities are a flea market and a public auction space is attract people to that place while provoking connections with the past. It is a place for things/artifacts and people. Also I asked to add new performance in addition to leisure and flea market. Workshop/working space and take-away coffee are the places I proposed.

Experience Box as a New Black

Academic, Bilgi University, Spring2017 Studio: Fabulations | Tutors: A.Hilal Menlioglu+Beliz SarÄąyer+Sebnem Soher+V.Safak Uysal 66

I inspired A’mak-ı Hayal by Filipeli Ahmet Hilmi and designed an experiment box for Raci who is the main characterof the book.I analyzed the emotions during my chapter. What Raci did, What Raci felt and focused to reflect these emotions in my box. During this time I located in Hasanpaşa Gazhanesi at Kadıköy, Istanbul. I also tried to adapt and express the place where it has own spirit. There were situations that focused by me.His apparent life, hesitation during the journey and couldn’t get something that are close to him. Also have some feelings to make a box like be scared, be free, want to be sky, disappear, hope, rebirth, be imprisoned and disappointment. 67

Own’s Own Moreau

Academic, Bilgi University, Fall2016 Studio: Atmospheres | Tutors: Ali D. Dostoglu+Burcu Gulmen+V.Safak Uysal 82

This is a tiny home for an imaginary being. All projects are inspired by a book that is Life a User’s Manual by Georges Perec. An apartman in Pariscontains different people’s lives. My chapter was Moreau 4 and I designed a tiny home for Moreau. The house has to include at least kitchen, bedroom, living room, working area and wet area. Two boxes are given us.Theseboxes can move only at their axis. I played with the boxes to make themproper according to my project. At the beginning of the story, she redesignedher home to a decorator. Keeping her wares in closet with intent of showing her mouse more presentable, and the other reasons which are told us bybook are the main reason of mine why I go ahead the idea of box in box.During the project period, I tried to reflect that. 83

Academic, Bilgi University, Fall2016 Studio: Atmospheres | Tutors: Ali D. Dostoglu+ItÄąr Saran 98

In this project, we are asked to design an installation at SantralIstanbul where we can spend some time for/by yourself during the day. Our proposalmust be conceived as an anthropomorphic sculpture in an intimate relationship with the human body and with the built/natural environment. Formationmust allow and support the body in various postures. Our design’s footprinthas to sit within a 240x240cm area(max). I decide to design a box where I would desiccate vegetables and fruits and would make my own tea. Also I would like to make people curious. This idea came from my childhood memories. The scent of vegetables and fruits reminds me home where I raised. That makes the box where I can feel more close to my parents.I put my box intersection point of most using pedestrian road in attempt to spread the scent of dried stuffes to outside. 99

House for Little Hearts

In this project, we were asked to design an animal shelter for the Duzce Hope Houses for the earthquake victims. We decided to design a shelter for dogs because of the large number of dogs in the area.

Dictionary

Academic, Bilgi University, Fall2018 Studio: Human and Built Environment | Tutors: Dilek Ozturk+Fitnat Cimsit 142

These words are organised as a part of Human and Environment Lecture. Discussion topics of the lecture is transmitted to a new visual grammar for each student by experimenting physical, natural, social and environmental issues. This visual grammar is discussed in a non-representative form of practical ground where each relation behaves as an action. These questions led us to create a self-dictionary of any unexpected design briefs by bringing words and visuals together from stratch. 143
