HEC Paris Master of Science in Management Student Exchange Program ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT HEC Paris has nearly 130 years of experience and expertise in encouraging a level of business management impressive in its students and faculty alike. Consistent excellence is created by a permanent faculty of more than 100 professors, 49 visiting professors and 47 adjunct lecturers. 51% of HEC Paris full-time faculty are from abroad, a figure reflected in the student body which contains more than 56 nationalities.

STUDENT NOMINATIONS Students are nominated by their home institution to spend a semester at HEC Paris. They will first have to contact their coordinator to learn about selection procedures for the exchange program, and check on their eligibility.

HEC Paris Master of Science in Management Student Exchange Program LEARNING EXPECTATIONS Classes are generally given through lectures with focus on individual participation and group work in the form of case-studies and projects. Class format: mix of lectures, case studies, presentations of students, discussion groups.

WORKLOAD Course load for ALL exchange students coming to HEC: 24 ECTS minimum - 30 ECTS maximum per semester. Student can choose freely between core courses and management electives among the following course list: - Management Core courses (18h / 27h / 36-hour course): 3 / 4 / 5 credits ECTS - Foundation Core courses (18h / 27h (36-hour course): 3 / 4 / 5 credits ECTS - Electives (18h): 3 credits ECTS - Management Skills courses (20h week-end seminar): 3 credits ECTS (only one skill course is allowed per semester). - French language course: (30h) 5 credits ECTS

EVALUATION & GRADING Evaluations are based on class participation, oral, presentations, written exams, essays, projects or group reports. Credits are awarded to students having obtained a grade of A, B, C, D, or E. A final grade of FX and F means repeating the exam and in case of re-fail, students must repeat the course. In the case of a re-take, E is the only passing grade that can be awarded. A = 4 - Excellent - outstanding performance B = 3.5 - Very good - above the average standard C = 3 - Good - generally sound work D = 2.5 - Satisfactory Fair E = 2 - Sufficient - performance meets minimum criteria FX = 1 - Insufficient - Fail (credits non validated) F= 0 - Very insufficient - Fail (credits non validated) Transcripts are mailed to the home university at the end of each semester.

COURSES REGISTRATION Exchange Students should have their course choices approved by their home university prior to the course registration period. (on-line course selection) Please note that places are limited in some courses. Our course enrolment procedure operates on a first-come, first-served basis, so many courses will close for registration when they reach their full capacity.

ADD & DROP POLICY Procedure: Drops and adds will be considered only at the International Office. You can drop a course after the first lecture and start another course only before the second lecture. No drops will be permitted after the beginning of the second lecture. Skill seminars cannot be dropped once started.

ACADEMIC RULES & REGULATIONS - Attendance: As class participation is an integral part of the academic program, attendance in class is mandatory. Any absence must be justified to the professor and the exchange coordinator. In the event of illness for more than 24 hours, students must provide the administration with a medical certificate from the Campus infirmary or personal doctor. - Exam attendance: Students must be present at all midterm and final exams. A missed exam can result in a default, meaning the course credits are not obtained.

HEC Paris Master of Science in Management Student Exchange Program LANGUAGE OF INTRUCTION Speaking French is not a prerequisite to join HEC Exchange Program. Language of instruction: English or French. All core courses are offered in French and English. Electives are held in French or English French Language Course Offer All international students are invited to take French classes during their studies at HEC Paris. French language Electives and French civilization courses are offered to international students, adapted to students’ levels. Students will be assessed by a placement test to evaluate their level and enrol them in a suitable group (7- level classes are available from absolute beginners to fluent level). Language groups will comprise no more than 15 students per class. At the end of the term, students have the opportunity to take the Test d'évaluation de français (TEF – written comprehension, oral comprehension and grammar/vocabulary), to get an official proof of their level in French. The registration to the test session is free and optional. The tests results are not included in the HEC grading system (information on www.fda.ccip.fr/tef)

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS Health Insurance European students must provide HEC with a copy of their European Health insurance card.

Civil liability insurance is compulsory for all exchange students (European and non European). Student can buy this insurance together with the housing insurance when opening a bank account in France. Non-European students staying in France for more than 3 months must register to the French Student Health insurance. The fee is 203E (2011/2012) and registrations will be made by HEC only upon arrival. This insurance does not cover extra insurance like repatriation, travel insurance which students should provide prior to their arrival. Exemptions: Students from Quebec are exempted from this registration if they provide the SE401Q102 bis or the SE401Q106 form from their home university. Students from Switzerland are exempted if they provide an Health insurance card.
