Parents’ weekly source for what’s going on at The Oaks

Blessing Ticket This week’s blessing ticket winner is Lillian Baker. Lillian earned a blessing ticket from Mrs. Scarberry for always showing kindness & compassion to her classmates. Great job, Lillian. HAWKINSVILLE FAMILY RECOVERING AFTER HOUSE FIRE The family involved in the house fire in Hawkinsville this week is in high spirits, according to the mother, Lori Howard. A fire engulfed the family’s home around 1:30 a.m. Thursday. Four of the family members managed to climb out of the home through windows. Authorities say Howard’s 16 year old son, Doug Howard, heard his younger sister screaming inside and went back in to rescue her. The mother credits the success of the rescue to the effort of the entire family. She says that while Doug went back into the house to rescue his sister, her son Joseph called 911. She says that her other child Sammy went looking for a ladder to help get them both out of the house safely. Howard says that Doug and Kimberly suffered third degree burns on their backs. Both kids and Howard are still being treated at the Augusta Burn Center. She said that she is thankful to the public for all their help, prayers and support. Hawkinsville High School is organizing a school drive to help the family out. The school is collecting furnishings, food, clothing, bedding, household goods, and anything a family would need to start over.

Headmaster Headline Tragedy struck the extended family of two of our students, Nathan and Ashley Cox. Their step-brother and step sister who live in Georgia lost their home in a fire. They were both also hospitalized for injuries caused by the fire. The family had no insurance, but their home church and school have stepped in to cover many of the necessities to help the family. We would like to show our love and support by donating tomorrow ’ s $ Mission Day collection to this family. We believe this is a proper way to practice what is taught in the scriptures. We would also call on everyone to pray for them as they recover from their loss. We praise God that no life was lost! A note and the article which appeared in the paper are included in today ’ s TN. KCMNS Angel Tree The “Angel Tree” is now located in the foyer at the front office. We still have several children who need to be “adopted”. If you have not done so already, please take a picture from the tree along with an envelope (from the bench), place the picture on your own tree at home and return $30 in the envelope to the school office. Your generous donation will cover the cost of a child’s education and a meal each day for an entire school year. We now have the names of most of the kids and will be sending them home soon. All of the pictures currently on the tree have names written on the back. Thanks again for caring about the kids in our sister school in Kilembe, Uganda. Mr. Wrenn is looking forward to seeing them over Easter break in April. He will be happy to hand deliver anything you would like to send to your “adopted” child.
