You know it’s nearly holiday season because unscrupulous bureaucrats lob large complex development plans at the public as a way of avoiding full scrutiny. Holidays are hardly the time to read large plans of management for Brunswick holiday parks, right? The NSW government-run Reflections Holiday Parks has its Ferry Reserve and Massy Greene plans now on public exhibition. To see what the pro-development, anti-community corporation has in mind, visit www. reflectionsholidayparks.com. au/poms-on-exhibition. Q Q Q Q

A prediction for 2019: the Liberals will split into two after the federal election. They will become the centre-right conservatives and the Coal & Christ party. These new parties will aim at governing as a tripartite coalition with the Nationals when they win office in 2031. Q Q Q Q

Here’s a great new game all political junkies can play – ‘Did Ben Franklin (Nationals MLC) do that?’ Did everybody’s best friend representing a terrible government provide the water fountain in Mullum, for example? How about stopping CSG on the north coast? (Hint – he really thinks he and his terrible government did, despite the mass protests.) Send your suggestions to editor@echo. net.au and we will add it to the mountain of material being collected for the upcoming state election. Q Q Q Q

Ben Monroe from McTavish Surfboards says a mate of his, ‘with the blessing of National Parks Byron’, printed and put up pictured signs last month in a bid to help educate both locals and visitors alike to take care when using beach showers. ‘He did this under his own volition and at his own cost… He’s a great community member who dedicates much of his time to teach kids at Nippers weekdays and weekends.’ Photo supplied the public by governments is to starve a department or service, then say ‘Look! it’s not being used much, so we’ll have to axe it.’ NSW Labor did the same with local rail. According to www.stat.abs. gov.au, the Shire saw 6.5 per cent unemployment in 2017. In that year, almost 10 per cent of the Byron LGA received Centrelink age pension (3,125 persons). Many others received disability support (1,695) and Newstart (2,025). Only 437 were on single-parent pensions. Renewable community organisation COREM has been quick to start organising a candidate forum in the leadup to next year’s March NSW election. President Ella Rose Goninan says their forum will be held March 7, 2019, at a venue to be announced. She says the event aims to hold politicians to the truth test. ‘What do we want them to offer and how do they plan to help drive our local renewable industry (and our regional energy security and prosperity) to the next level? You’ll hear the science and the pitches, get a chance to pose questions, find out where our region’s politicians stand… and hold them to account.’
