YOU AM I

A MARRIAGE OF FLAVOUR AND SQUELCH

WHO ARE YOU AM I?

Tijuana Cartel are nationally loved for their east-meets-west, fat, bass-fuelled electronica. A truly unique act that have been mesmerising their ever-growing audience for well over a decade, they continue to set an exceptionally high standard in both live performance and sound production. From Tijuana Cartel’s special vinyl edition EP Ishtar’s Descent, the second single Sophia is the impetus for their current tour The Sophia tour kicked off on 28 March and will continue through until August with a huge closing show at iconic venue The Landsdowne in Sydney. Sophia features Paul George’s signature soul-stirring guitar work, overlaying a stomping four-to-the-floor rhythm with a deep, driving quality. In some ways it’s a strong throwback to the sound that established Tijuana Cartel as a nationally acclaimed electronic act. Their marriage of world flavours and squelchy electronica has since formed a movement all of its own, and this track encapsulates the sound of that movement precisely. Catch the Cartel at The Northern on Friday from 9pm – Tijuana Cartel.

You Am I are without doubt one of Australia’s all-time essential rock’n’roll bands. More than two decades on from their first album release, You Am I have not only had one of the longest and most successful recording careers in Australia but are also without doubt one of our most-loved live bands. Featuring guitarist and vocalist Tim Rogers along with bandmates Russell Hopkinson on drums, Andy Kent on bass, and (since 1999) Davey Lane on guitar, You Am I have released ten studio albums to date. Their last studio album was the 2015 critically acclaimed Porridge & Hot Sauce. The band have won a total of ten ARIA Awards including Album of the Year, Best Group, and Best Independent Release. This is proving to be an awesome tour – don’t miss it. Byron Brewery | Sunday 8 July, from 7pm Tix: www.tickets.oztix.com.au
