20 September 10, 2013 The Byron Shire Echo

FUNKY AND FRESH BRISBANE-BASED FOUR-PIECE BAND SLIP-ON STEREO HAS BEEN CONSIDERED THE ‘BAND TO SEE’ SINCE BREAKING ONTO THE SCENE IN EARLY 2012. Self-described as ‘summer sounds’, their style is a unique blend of pop, funk, RnB, reggae and anything else they feel inspired to throw in the mix. These boys don’t look like easing up any time soon with the recent release of the first single Mercury off their five-track EP produced and recorded by producer Anthony Lycenko. They are currently up for the Most Promising New Talent at the Deadlys and will be appearing at Boomerang Festival this October. You recorded with a local producer Anthony Lycenko – can you tell me why you chose to use him? Anthony has a great reputation of working with fantastic talents and gets the best out of them to produce great music. One of our band members, Clint, worked with him so there was already a great relationship with him. What was the plan for the recording process? What did you want to achieve? The plan was to pick songs that would connect with and relate with our audience. We wanted to attempt to replicate the same energy and feeling that we work towards when we perform live. How do you feel about the results? We had a

great time during the process and we are very happy with the sound that was achieved. Do you need to be flexible in a recording situation? Yes, it's important to be flexible. Being flexible for us allows creativity to flow. And for us to get the best out of each other. How do you like to change your studio work from what you present live? Being in a studio situation for us means that we can experiment with other sounds and elements. What do you think it is about your sound that sets you apart? We are trying to bring a

sound that is authentic pop that people can be proud of listening to. What should we expect for your performance at Boomerang? We love festivals. It gives us the opportunity to connect on a personal level with people that may not otherwise get to hear our style of music. We love seeing people react to seeing us for the first time. 4–6 October, at the Bluesfest site. For tickets and program information go to www. boomerangfestival.com.au.
