The inaugural Mass of Remembrance in 2015 united the Star community by offering support to the bereaved and paying tribute to the lives of loved ones who have gone before us.
The second Mass of Remembrance - a collaboration between the College and the Past Students’ Association - will be held on Sunday, 6 November 2016 in the Star of the Sea College Chapel to commemorate those community members who have died this year. All members of the community are warmly welcome to attend. Morning tea will be provided at the conclusion of the Mass in the George Reed foyer.
If you and your family members wish to attend this Mass, please email Kris Johnstone, Past Students’ Liaison Officer: kjohnstone@starmelb.catholic.edu.au or telephone 03 9595 9595.
Please forward the names of loved ones who have died since November 2015 to Kris Johnstone so they can be honoured during the ritual of remembrance as part of the Mass.

Remembering Diana Wolowski
Diana Wolowski, teacher of Politics and Debating at Star from 1982 until 1997, died in May after a long illness.
Diana was a brilliant and inspiring teacher who instilled a deep understanding of political and ethical issues in the hundreds of girls that she taught. She was a passionate believer in the rights and responsibilities of citizens in a democracy and she saw her role as a teacher of politics as part of this process. Diana regularly invited politicians to the College to address her students and, for many years, she led a study tour to Canberra. Her contacts with politicians on all sides meant that students were given access to places not usually open to school groups. In addition, Diana co-founded the first VCE and Careers Expo in 1993. The Expo is now a major feature of the careers calendar in Victoria and is strongly attended by Star girls. Teachers from Star also regularly present seminars at the Expo. This stands as one of Diana’s finest educational legacies. Diana was also a much-loved staff member who was always a willing participant in end-of-year performances. She was not averse to the occasional prank. Many teachers will remember the April Fool’s Day when plates of appetising lamingtons appeared on the morning tea tables. Unfortunately, courtesy of Diana, one or two lamingtons on each plate consisted of foam rubber, elaborately dipped in chocolate and rolled in coconut! It took a long time for the staff to again trust unexpected treats!
