EDITORIAL
Our world is changing. Although we can't feel or see it directly, it’s happening all around us. Staying on top of things is never easy, and sometimes it can be a very difficult task. From waking up to the point of going to sleep we are like busy bees in a very big hive. If you own a business, this gets even worse. Maybe we should be thinking of adding those few extra hours to the day so we could do the tasks that we just can't seem to reach. The feeling of running out of time is always near us. Life is like a runaway train with no breaks, once it starts it cannot stop. In an ironic and natural way, resemblance the global businesses. It is hard seeing opportunities these days, but has it ever been easy? Since the dawn of the first civilizations, technology was a true guideline to the modern world. Revolutionary thinking, reinventing the old, seeing things in the
future and bold courageous projects started it all. From the discovery of fire and the invention of the wheel, we came too far to be stopped. Today's technologies include jet packs for humans, hover boards, space exploration, social media and more and more inventions arising every day. We might wonder where all this is headed? The answer could be a simple one: "forward". Human nature always tried to open new paths for knowledge, to push its boundaries and to go where no one has gone before. Thus, we must get out of our comfort zone, step into the unknown and start a new beginning by exploring a limitless infinity. Editor-in-Chief, Ciprian Rotaru

Bosch extends its range of professional garden Tools Bosch is consistently expanding its range of professional garden tools: core of the system is the new 9.0 Ah battery, the world's most powerful battery for 36-volt garden tools. The size and weight are similar to those of the 6.0 Ah batteries (which are still available), but the 9.0 Ah battery also offers a 50 percent longer runtime. This means professionals can work even longer with the Bosch garden tools. The 9.0 Ah battery is fully compatible with the existing system. In addition to the two lawnmowers and brushcutters, there will be three hedgecutters and a blower: the GHE 60 T Professional, GHE 60 R Professional and GHE 70 R Professional hedgecutters and the GBL 860 Professional blower. All of these products are as powerful as petrol devices thanks to their powerful batteries and EC motors, but they also offer the many advantages of battery technology: they are at least 50 percent quieter, making them suitable for use in noise-sensitive environments such as parks and hospitals, have lower vibrations and are emission-free and maintenance-free.
AN EXPANDED MAKITA TOOL BOX FOR LANDSCAPERS Makita created the 18V Lithium-Ion cordless tool category in 2005. Today, with over 100 tools, Makita has the world's largest 18V cordless tool line-up powered by 18V Lithium-Ion slide-style batteries – and the line-up includes a growing range of solutions for landscape contractors. Makita 18V X2 LXT® (36V) tools are powered by two 18V Lithium-Ion batteries, so users get 36V power, speed and run-time without leaving the 18V battery platform. Makita offers 18V X2 (36V) blowers (model XBU02Z, right), as well as a hedge trimmer, string trimmer (model XRU07Z, below), and two chain saws, with more solutions are on the way. Makita also offers several cordless power equipment solutions that run on single 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion batteries including 18V 2.0Ah, 3.0Ah and 4.0Ah batteries, as well as the 18V 5.0Ah battery which gives users 65% more run time than 3.0Ah batteries. Makita 18V batteries also have the fastest charge-times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger.

New Bosch sliding miter saws for professionals Bosch made the requirements of tradespeople a priority when developing the GCM 8 SDE Professional and GCM 12 SDE Professional compound miter saws. Both tools have an intuitive operating concept that enables them to be adjusted for use with different materials even more easily and rapidly than their predecessors. This means that they meet the requirements of various trades: The GCM 8 SDE Professional is particularly compact and, with a weight of 18.5 kg, is ideal in particular for mobile applications – for example for use by floor layers or joiners. The GCM 12 SDE Professional has a cutting capacity of 120 x 400 mm – with a standard 305 mm saw blade. This is the highest cutting capacity in its category. It enables carpenters, landscape gardeners or stand constructors to effortlessly machine particularly large diameters in timber beams, boards or planks.
INTEGRATED DESIGN FOR CAT 340F AND 352F The new Cat® 340F Long Reach and 352F Long Reach Excavators are specifically designed for applications that require exceptionally deep digging or excavating at extended distances, such as working in sand and gravel pits, shaping long slopes, and cleaning settling ponds. The new models are equally capable of digging and lifting applications, with large buckets and heavy-duty high/ wide undercarriages that provide added stability over the side. These special-application machines are designed by Caterpillar engineers and manufactured in Caterpillar factories, resulting in an integrated design that ensures the optimum reliability, performance, and serviceability that customers have long experienced with Cat D models. The 340F Long Reach excavator will be available in third quarter 2015 while the 352F Long Reach excavator will be available in first quarter 2016.
A world's first from Bosch for professionals Bosch is the world's first supplier to offer professionals a powerful alternative to gasoline power generators: the GEN 230V-1500 Professional mobile power unit. Its innovative lithium iron phosphate technology stores up to 1,650 watt-hours of power and offers professionals in the commercial gardening and landscaping sector, as well as tradespeople who work at a jobsite, with a constant power output of 1,500 W and, therefore, independence from a generator or fixed power source. The mobile power unit has two 230 V connections to which mains-powered tools, chargers for professional garden tools or chargers for other cordless tools can be connected. In doing so the GEN 230V-1500 Professional operates without any noise or exhaust gases, which means that it is also suitable for emission-sensitive areas such as parks and hospitals.

Wacker Neuson presents new products and innovative solutions. Bringing the world of Wacker Neuson to life for customers and dealers: this was the aim of the "Wacker Neuson Universe" event. In September 2015, in a gravel pit near Munich, Wacker Neuson presented new products and innovative solutions, which could be tested directly on site.
Whether a new generation of excavators in the 6 to 10-ton class, innovative vibratory plates, new internal vibrators for concrete compaction or the zero-emissions series: Under the banner "Wacker Neuson Universe", customers and dealers from across Europe were invited, not only to become better acquainted with these and other solutions, but also to witness them in action. A test track was built for this purpose in a gravel pit near Munich. Different stations sent out invitations to witness and form an entirely personal opinion of the performance, versatile application areas, and tangible advantages of Wacker Neuson machines.
"The direct and personal contact with our customers, but also the chance to provide them with an exclusive, handson experience of the dependability and performance of our products and brand — that is the idea behind "Wacker Neuson Universe", explains Cem Peksaglam, CEO of Wacker Neuson SE. "Visitors at the event should have the chance to get to know the entire offering of the Wacker Neuson brand in all its facets. In addition to product innovations, this also includes the comprehensive range of services we offer." An overview of new products. The zero-emissions series stands for exceptional operator and environmental protec-

tion, without sacrifice in performance. The series includes battery-operated vibratory rammers, dual power-excavators, electric wheel loaders and an electric track dumper. With this series, Wacker Neuson positions itself as the first manufacturer in this segment to offer its customers a chance to complete many work steps entirely emission-free. Freedom from emissions pays off when working indoors, in greenhouses, for example, or during building restoration work, in parking garages, as well as under poorly ventilated working conditions. Using the slogan "exceptional performance, unbelievably efficient", Wacker
Neuson is introducing four new excavator models in the 6 to 10-ton class. Above all, the ET65, ET90, EW65 and EW100 score major points for their productivity: with increased fuel savings of up to 20 percent, they provide up to 30 percent more power. An additional benefit of the new machines is the outstanding visibility they provide over the entire work zone, ensuring increased safety. What's more, the compact design is compelling, making transport, as well as entry and exit to the machine, safer and simpler. An articulated boom, which increases the radius of action, can be ordered optionally for all excavator models. The cab interior was entirely redesigned and its generous and modern configura-
tion has transformed it into a true zone of comfort. By offering remote controlled vibratory plates and a complete series of reversible vibratory plates with the lowest hand-arm vibrations on the market, Wacker Neuson gives its customers in the compaction field safe, comfortable and economical machines. The new DPU80 and DPU110 models — optionally with remote control or center pole — are available starting the end of the year. Wacker Neuson is also introducing its first single drum soil compactors RC50 and RC70 in the 5 and 7-ton class. Their strong compaction performance and exceptional maneuverabil-

ity is persuasive. Also new: The modified RTx trench roller, available with Compatec compaction control, as well as the RD7 walk-behind roller, which was fully modified and offers higher compaction performance, very good maneuverability and simple service access. Six new telehandlers with a stacking height of seven to nine meters and a payload of up to 5.5 tons are distinguished by their high output, ruggedness and durability. The new models were designed and developed to take on especially demanding jobs; they master even difficult earthworks with ease. With a total of nine telehandlers with a range from four to nine meter stacking height, Wacker Neuson now offers the right machine to meet any customer need. Guaranteeing safety and efficiency, the time-tested and proven Vertical Lift System (VLS), an operator assistance system, makes it possible to smoothly and rapidly lower the telescopic arm with a simultaneous semi-automatic telescoping motion. The almost vertical movement prevents load torque displacements in the longitudinal direction of the machine from arising, providing even greater stability. Also new: the internal vibrators for concrete compaction from the IEC and IE series — with and without converters — distinguished by their high performance, ruggedness, exceptional operator friendliness and very good cost-benefit relation. With the three vibrator head diameters of 38, 45 and 58 millimeters as well as a protective hose length of up to 10 meters, all standard tasks in construction can be completed easily and quickly. Also new is the modular internal vibrator system in the HMS series, which can be configured individually with various combinable flexible shafts, vibrator heads and engines, thus offering greater flexibility. The DW60, DW90 and DW100 wheel dumpers with a range of payloads from 6 to 10 tons guarantee a bump up in performance, safety and comfort, even with difficult ground conditions. The hydrostatic drive system for all models ensures the machines can be steered sensitively and operated safely. The low operating costs of these models, which can be equipped with different skip versions, also make them interesting in rental yards. In some countries, they replace the smaller construction trucks on many sites, scoring points for their off-road capabilities.

Control System valve optimizes hydraulic performance by intelligently managing restriction and flow, seamlessly controlling machine motion and providing hydraulic power precisely where and when required. The key to the Hybrid's efficient performance is the Cat Swing Energy Recovery (SER) valve, which captures kinetic energy during swing deceleration by storing normally wasted hydraulic flow from the swing motor in high-pressure accumulators, then releasing this stored energy to assist swing acceleration. The result is reduced load on the hydraulic pumps and a subsequent, significant reduction in fuel consumption.
Ample hydraulic flow in the 336F L/LN XE's implement circuits and a high main relief pressure generate the power to handle a range of buckets and work tools, including shears, multi-processors, hydraulic breakers, and rippers. Operator environment The roll-over-protectivestructure (ROPS) cab is spacious and quiet with large glass areas for allaround visibility. Positive air filtration pressurizes the cabin to keep out dust, and height-adjustable joystick consoles, large color monitor, and an available air-suspension/heated/ cooled seat ensure operator comfort and productivity. For enhanced safety, the 336F L/LN XE's standard equipment includes timedelay working lights and a rearview camera. Durable structures Undercarriage choices for the new model include the heavy-duty long (L) and long/narrow (LN) configurations. Massive frames and Heavy Duty counterweight combine to form an exceptionally strong, stable work platform for digging, lifting, and attachment use. The heavy-duty (HD), 6.5m reach boom and two stick options, 3.2 m and 2.8 m, provide excellent all-around versatility for general excavation work, such as multipurpose digging and loading. Technology enhancements In order to realize maximum return on investment, equipment owners must employ machines to full potential—producing more in less time, using less fuel, avoiding unnecessary machine wear, and ensuring safety on the job site. Cat Connect assists customers in attaining these goals by capitalizing on Caterpillar technology and Cat dealer services.

Pakelo is a 100% Italian lubricant producer that has been operating in the field for more than 80 years. Research & Development department together with the analysis laboratory are the true assets of the company which is able to formulate tailor made products meeting even the most demanding requests. This is the reason why Pakelo likes to be called “lubricant designer” instead of lubricant blender or producer. Designing a lubricant implies never choosing the easy way out, never compromising on raw materials, never stop improving or innovating and, if necessary, creating from scratch a lubricant to meet the needs of motorcycle manufactures. This attitude towards excellence brought Pakelo to develop a terrific line of lubricants for the two-wheels that has been validated by Moto GP team “Forward Racing” in 2013. Let’s take the prestigious Krypton MBK motor oil series as an example. The name ‘Krypton’ is a witty reference to the famous comic hero Superman aiming to underline the strength and flexibility of these fully synthetic prod-
ucts. Performance levels cannot be higher. All Krypton MBK products passed JASO MA2 (a Japanese standard reflecting the lubricant quality with reference to the clutch) and API SM (an American standard pointing out the quality with reference to the motor) levels. However if we focus on off-road thrills it becomes quite clear that suspension oils play a leading role in the process. Pakelo developed a truly effective way to understand if the product actually works: field tests! In the last year the Italian brand engaged in multiple testing projects stretching from motorcross to rally raid in order to understand the authentic performance levels of its products. Pakelo’s partnership with Marco Belli, former EU flat track championship began in 2014 when he founded his Di Traverso flat track school in Italy. This discipline looks like speedway, but it’s not related since flat track motorbikes differ for the presence of rear brakes. This context is pretty stressful for the front forks. Marco Belli has been using Pakelo Amfluid 2 suspension lubricant
for a long time on his Yamahas SR400. This is a very high viscosity index product assuring low friction, especially during start-ups, and steady efficiency combined with minimum vibrations even under the hardest and long lasting working conditions. Talking about long lasting performances, we cannot forget to mention Swiss-based Kapriony Team that joined Pakelo family in July 2015. This group of crazy-talented guys basically travels around the world on board of powerful two-cylinder LC8 KTMs to join extreme rally raid competitions. Who else could be more entitled in the validation of Pakelo’s suspension lubricants? Their feedbacks has been more than enthusiastic. What really matters In Pakelo are authentic feedbacks. They function as innovative drives raising the quality bar higher and higher and keeping the developing work interesting. That’s the true secret of a lubricant designer, but don’t tell anyone!

With a forward-leaning design, the MS 595 and MS 695 offer superior control of the tamper, allowing users to walk-behind while the momentum carries the tamper forward. Additional features such as the easyaccess control lever enable the operator to switch to idle with just one hand. The compact, slim line design make the new tampers ideal for narrow trench work with the ability to tightly move around objects. “We have designed our new tampers range to provide enhanced efficiency whilst still keeping the tried and tested, rugged reliability people expect from CP” says Andrzej Mroziński, product manager at Chicago Pneumatic. “Despite incorporating a more powerful engine the lightweight tampers are easy to transport whilst the reduction in noise and the ergonomic design provide additional comfort and safety.” The tampers are equipped with new 4-stroke Honda GXR 120 engines offering improved fuel consumption and fewer HC (Hydro Carbon) and NOx (mononitrogen oxides) emissions. The engines offer 3.5 hp (horse power) and have been specifically designed for the new tampers range to ensure maximum power to perform in even the toughest environments. Thanks to the installation of a brand new muffler and the overhead camshaft design, noise levels have also been reduced.

Model X is the safest, fastest and most capable sport utility vehicle in history. Standard with all-wheel drive and a 90 kWh battery providing 250 miles of range, Model X has ample seating for seven adults and all of their gear. And it’s ludicrously fast, accelerating from zero to 60 miles per hour in as quick as 3.2 seconds. Model X is designed with safety as the first priority. The floor-mounted battery lowers the center of gravity so that the risk of rollover is about half that of any vehicle in its class. The battery structure strengthens Model X against side impact intrusions. And without a gasoline engine, the large front trunk acts as a giant impact-absorbing crumple zone.

Model X continually scans the surrounding roadway with camera, radar and sonar systems, providing the driver with real-time feedback to help avoid collisions. Even at highway speeds, Model X is designed to automatically apply brakes in an emergency.
Pollution Free, Inside and Out
A medical grade HEPA filter strips outside air of pollen, bacteria, viruses and pollution before circulating it into the cabin. There are three modes: circulate with outside air, re-circulate inside air and a bioweapon defense mode that creates positive pressure inside the cabin to protect occupants.
Falcon Wings
Falcon Wing doors allow easy access to second and third row seats from even a tight parking space, while traditional SUV doors or Minivan sliding doors would not grant any access. With only a foot of clearance on either side, Falcon Wing doors articulate smoothly up and out of the way, allowing passengers to enter from both front and rear directions. The side and overhead opening is so large that parents can buckle children in without ducking or straining and without bumping their child's head on the roof.
Aerodynamic
Model X is able to achieve 250 miles of range in part because it is the most aerodynamic SUV in production. At 0.24, Model X's drag coefficient
is 20% lower than the next best SUV. In addition, an active spoiler deploys from the rear liftgate to optimize highway efficiency and stability.
Big Sky
Model X has the largest all glass panoramic windshield in production, providing an unparalleled view of the stars and sky above. Optimized solar tinting and obstruction-free view creates unlimited visibility for the driver and all passengers.
Everything Fits
Stow everyone's gear in Model X's large front trunk, rear cargo area and under passenger seats. The front trunk is large enough to hold two golf bags and the rear cargo area can easily hold large items like bicycles, skis and snowboards.

Submarines are incredible pieces of technology. Not so long ago, a naval force worked entirely above the water; with the addition of the sÂŹubmarine to the standard naval arsenal, the world below the surface became a battleground as well. The adaptations and inventions that allow sailors to not only fight a battle, but also live for months or even years underwater are some of the most brilliant developments in military history.

submarines #30
january 2016 | facebook/EasyEngineeringMagazine
A submarine or a ship can float because the weight of water that it displaces is equal to theÂŹ weight of the ship. This displacement of water creates an upward force called the buoyant force and acts opposite to gravity, which would pull the ship down. Unlike a ship, a submarine can control its buoyancy, thus allowing it to sink and surface at will. To control its buoyancy, the submarine has ballast tanks and auxiliary, or trim tanks, that can be alternately filled with water or air (see animation below). When the submarine is on the surface, the ballast tanks are filled with air and the submarine's overall density is less than that of the surrounding
water. As the submarine dives, the ballast tanks are flooded with water and the air in the ballast tanks is vented from the submarine until its overall density is greater than the surrounding water and the submarine begins to sink (negative buoyancy). A supply of compressed air is maintained aboard the submarine in air flasks for life support and for use with the ballast tanks. In addition, the submarine has movable sets of short "wings" called hydroplanes on the stern (back) that help to control the angle of the dive. The hydroplanes are angled so that water moves over the stern, which forces the stern upward; therefore, the submarine
is angled downward. Buttons to watch buoyancy in action To keep the submarine level at any set depth, the submarine maintains a balance of air and water in the trim tanks so that its overall density is equal to the surrounding water (neutral buoyancy). When the submarine reaches its cruising depth, the hydroplanes are leveled so that the submarine travels level through the water. Water is also forced between the bow and stern trim tanks to keep the sub level. The submarine can steer in the water by using the tail rudder to turn starboard (right) or

port (left) and the hydroplanes to control the fore-aft angle of the submarine. In addition, some submarines are equipped with a retractable secondary propulsion motor that can swivel 360 degrees. When the submarine surfaces, compressed air flows from the air flasks into the ballast tanks and the water is forced out of the submarine until its overall density is less than the surrounding water (positive buoyancy) and the submarine rises. The hydroplanes are angled so that water moves up over the stern, which forces the stern downward; therefore, the submarine is angled upward. In an emergency, the ballast tanks can be filled quickly with high-pressure air to take the submarine to the surface very rapidly.
Life Support
There are three main problems of life support in the closed environment of submarine: Oxygen is supplied either from pressurized tanks, an oxygen generator (which can form oxygen from the electrolysis of water) or some sort of "oxygen canister" that releases oxygen by a very hot chemical reaction. Oxygen is either released continuously by a computerized system that senses the percentage of oxygen in the air, or it is released in batches periodically through the day. Carbon dioxide can be removed from the air chemically using soda lime (sodium hydroxide and calcium hydroxide) in devices called scrubbers. The carbon dioxide is trapped in the soda lime by a chemical reaction and

removed from the air. Other similar reactions can accomplish the same goal. The moisture can be removed by a dehumidifier or by chemicals. This prevents it from condensing on the walls and equipment inside the ship. In addition, other gases such as carbon monoxide or hydrogen, which are generated by equipment and cigarette smoke, can be removed by burners. Finally, filters are used to remove particulates, dirt and dust from the air.
Maintaining a Fresh Water Supply
Most submarines have a distillation apparatus that can take in seawater and produce fresh water. The distillation plant heats the
seawater to water vapor, which removes the salts, and then cools the water vapor into a collecting tank of fresh water. The distillation plant on some submarines can produce 10,000 to 40,000 gallons (38,000 - 150,000 liters) of fresh water per day. This water is used mainly for cooling electronic equipment (such as computers and navigation equipment) and for supporting the crew (for example, drinking, cooking and personal hygiene).
Maintaining Temperature
The temperature of the ocean surrounding the submarine is typically 39 degrees Fahrenheit (4 degrees Celsius). The metal of the submarine conducts internal heat to the surrounding water. So, submarines must be
electrically heated to maintain a comfortable temperature for the crew. The electrical power for the heaters comes from the nuclear reactor, diesel engine, or batteries (emergency).
How Nuclear Submarines Work For at least a thousand years, dominating the oceans has been a key step toward dominating the world. Britain, France, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands waged war on the high seas for centuries in a global competition to control commerce, protect shipping and spread influence in the form of colonies. The sea lanes were, for hundreds of years leading into the 20th century, ruled by warships belonging to the British Empire. The overwhelming British naval advantage made many inventors, engineers and sailors from all
over the globe dream of ways of to sneak up on the powerful British boats while remaining concealed in the depths of the ocean. In time, these fanciful dreams became reality in the form of the first practical submarine designs. Although early submarines were lessthan-seaworthy, their progression through present times has been remarkable. In the beginning, the first attack subs consisted of a man hand-cranking away in a wood and leather suicide tube while attempting to attach explosives to a battleship using a wooden screw. Nearly 200 years later, men could remain underwater for weeks at a time while crossing the globe on a submarine with a nearly limitless supply of power and the means to destroy several large cities. The age of the nuclear submarine had arrived.

Honda Acura NSX Styling and athletic performance
#41
january 2016 | facebook/EasyEngineeringMagazine
When the original Acura NSX made its debut 25 years ago, it forever changed the supercar universe by combining scintillating sports car styling and athletic performance—common traits long associated with the exotic car segment—with a new dimension of quality, exceptional ergonomics, comfort, and dynamic poise. The NSX introduced and defined Acura's approach to "Precision Crafted Performance" with its cutting-edge design and innovative technology that provided accessible supercar performance for real drivers in the real world. By making use of advanced new technologies such as a lightweight yet rigid allaluminum monocoque body/chassis and a mid-mounted transverse V6, the original NSX challenged the conventional wisdom for a supercar. Its high-revving V6 engine featured a number of innovative production car technologies including forged pistons, titanium connecting rods and VTEC valve train.
Next Generation Concept
The overarching concept for the design and development of this next-generation NSX was the idea of a "human-centered supercar," one that places the driver at the center of its mission in each and every element of its design and dynamic performance. Respecting the foundational concepts of the original NSX—accessible supercar performance, everyday drivability, and openness to new technology—this nextgeneration NSX pursues an altogether new and revolutionary concept of Acura supercar performance – melding timeless NSX values with advanced technologies to create a New Sports eXperience.
Advanced Fundamentals
First and foremost, the engineering team felt a tremendous responsibility to continue the fundamental innovation pursued by the original NSX team. Four foundational philosophies are fundamental to the timeless NSX values and essential to realize the new NSX concept and goals: Total Airflow Management – a wholistic approach to thermal management and aerodynamic performance that supports and enhances dynamic response and highspeed stability without the need for active aero devices Advanced Sports Package – optimizing the design and packaging in all the above aspects—the human package, the body, and finally the key components of the power unit to lower and center the mass of the vehicle.
Advanced Technologies
With these fundamentals in place, NSX

engineers could effectively develop technical solutions needed to deliver the New Sports driving experience they sought. To fully realize this New Sports eXperience, Acura electrifies the advanced fundamentals by leveraging its longstanding Direct Yaw Control knowhow through its Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-WheelDrive (SH-AWD) system, the first of its kind in the supercar realm. The NSX concept for "zero delay" is more than acceleration, actually involving every aspect of the driver interface ‌ the capacity to directly respond to the driver's demands in all three phases of driving: Go, Stop, Turn (acceleration, braking and cornering). The NSX's advanced power unit supports this achievement. Zero delay acceleration and active AWD traction power the NSX out of corners. Energy recovery supports direct and linear braking. And power strategically applied to the wheels directly creates a yaw moment to help turn the car according to the driver's will. Development of the next-generation NSX involved a global team of engineers and designers, with development of the Sport Hybrid power unit centered in Tochigi, Japan. Development of the body, chassis, electrical, interior and other vehicle technologies including total system integration, was concentrated in Raymond, Ohio. Initial styling design for the NSX was conducted at the company's Wako design studio in Japan, and was evolved for production by the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles.

contract
awards forecast to rise US$1.45bn
A new report commissioned by The Big 5 has said that the value of contract awards for healthcare projects will increase by US$1.45 billion in 2015. According to the Ventures Middle East Onsite report, entitled GCC Healthcare Construction Market Outlook, around US$5.9 billion in contracts were awarded in 2014, but that figure is set to rise to US$7.3 billion in 2015, as population growth, higher per capita income, and life expectancy drive demand for healthcare services. The healthcare industry in Saudi Arabia is projected to remain the largest in the region, and register a CAGR of 9.2 percent from 2015 to 2020. Compound annual growth of 7 percent will see UAE join Qatar in registering the fastest growth as both countries seek to capitalise on an emerging medical tourism industry in the region. “Populations across the GCC are increasing in number, disposable income, and lifestyle and what this latest report demonstrates is that higher birth rates and life expectancies are creating demand for hospitals, health centres, and maternal, child, and elderly care services,” said Josine Heijmans, Event Director at DMG events and The Big 5. According to the report, the UAE is building more than 20 hospitals to care for the half a million medical tourists that are expected by 2020, with medical revenues to hit US$300 million by 2016. At the same time, the report states that Bahrain,
Oman, and Kuwait are also expected to register a significant rise in project completions in 2015. “Close to 70 mega-hospital projects are under construction, each of which are valued at over US$100 million, and there are a further 280 smaller hospital projects mentioned in the report as being under construction,” said Heijmans. The report comes ahead of the Middle East region’s biggest construction event, The Big 5, which will be held at Dubai World Trade Centre on 23-26 November. Some 85,000 participants are expected to attend the event, which will feature 30 live demonstrations and 75 free CPD-certified seminars led by experts from across the industry. The headline event will welcome more than 3,000 exhibitors who will showcase some of the most innovative technologies from around the world, and their applicability in GCC markets. The Big 5 International Building & Con-
struction Show is the biggest and most respected construction exhibition in the Middle East. For 35 years it has welcomed the world’s top industry professionals from across the industry and has built up an unrivalled portfolio of product categories that extends from architecture, to interior design, building materials and equipment, green and smart city technologies, facilities management, and software infrastructure. In addition to exhibitor products, The Big 5 has become synonymous with being at the forefront of the industry, providing industry insights from influential business leaders and offering more free educational content on-site than any other event in the Middle East and Asia. In 2014, more than 55 CPD accredited workshops, a conference, and 30 live demonstrations were made available to 2,800 exhibitors from 61 countries and 80,000 visitors from 147 countries at the event at World Trade Centre in Dubai.

assurance is a priority for Wacker Neuson. Because what we want is to exceed our customers' expectations," explains Helmut Bauer, managing director of technology for Wacker Neuson in Reichertshofen. Since the beginning of 2015, energy and environmental management systems are being introduced. Until the end of the year, an external certification is planned (ISO 50001 und ISO 14001). The innovative construction equipment manufactured in Reichertshofen is trendsetting. Recent examples include the AS30e and AS50e battery-powered rammers, which work completely emissionfree and are thus suitable for all applications, especially in confined spaces or in trench applications. The WM80 engine,

with which the low-emission two-cycle rammer and gasoline demolition breakers from Wacker Neuson are equipped, is also environment-friendly and produces emissions well below the prescribed exhaust gas thresholds. Both the WM80 engines and the battery-powered rammer carry the Wacker Neuson ECO seal, which identifies ecological and economical products. The AS50e battery-powered rammer impressed the jury at the bi GaLaBau Awards so that it was awarded a gold medal. At the European Rental Award 2015, the battery-powered rammers particularly convinced the specialist jury with its sustainable operation, which is why they were selected as winners in the category "Sustainable Rental Product of the Year".
