Artist Brief Brewhouse Festive Installation 2017 Introduction: The Brewhouse arts centre is a focal point for the arts both within Burton and throughout the Borough. The venue is run by East Staffordshire Borough Council (ESBC). Within The Brewhouse we deliver a range of workshops and events, house a diverse live theatre programme as well as being home to a number of fantastic creative community groups. We are constantly striving to re-invigorate the Brewhouse, attract new audiences and find ways to secure its future as a vibrant and relevant multi-arts centre. Project Brief: An important aspect of our work at the Brewhouse is to support the development of new work within the Arts Centre and East Staffordshire Borough. Over the past 2 years we have commissioned a new installation each festive season to enhance our cafe bar and to provide local schools with the opportunity to work with professional artists. We have a programme of festive events planned throughout December 2017 and we are therefore looking for an artist(s) to work with the Brewhouse Arts Team who can engage local primary school pupils in the creation of an artwork/installation that will transform the Brewhouse Cafe Bar into a Winter Wonderland; a celebration of all things winter, fun, frosty and sparkly! The final artwork is to be installed in time for a ‘big reveal’ as part of our Festive Family Fun Day on Saturday 9 December 2017. Our theme for the installation this year is "Winter Wonderland". It can abstract or realistic, there can be lots of small installations or one large one; whatever your proposal – the bigger the better - and we need it to be as impactful as possible in the space.

We would also like proposals where possible to fit in with our new ‘crafty’ cafe – looking at encouraging families and children to engage with craft and the handmade. We also require the installation to either be permanent/semi-permanent or easy to take down and install on an annual basis (or more regularly if adaptable for other events). Outputs:  a minimum of 6 half day workshops in schools (or at the Brewhouse with school groups attending) to engage as many local primary school children in the making of our ‘installation’ as possible.  At least one drop-in workshop at the Brewhouse, for families to "add on" to the installation. Ideally to take place on Saturday 9th December as part of the Festive Family Funday.  The production of a ‘how to’ resource to invite all primary children in East Staffordshire to contribute to the installation, even if they are not able to take part in a workshop.  Installation of the artwork in the Brewhouse Cafe Bar area
