STACEY KENT

Welcome to the Autumn/ Winter season at ERT and some very exciting news... We are delighted to announce star of stage and screen, Sir Mark Rylance as our new patron. He is an actor and director I’ve admired enormously for many years and, as someone who really values the role of theatre in the community, Mark is a real inspiration for us at ERT. I don’t think we could wish for a more inspirational patron. Along with an array of music, comedy and ERT events, this Autumn we have a trio of productions all born out of Hull City of Culture 2017. With It’s Different for Girls, She Productions take us back to Hull in the swinging 60’s to bring to life the story of one of the UK’s first girl bands, who played their own instruments and came from Hull, Mandy and the Girlfriends. So come and join Sindy, Betsy, Mitzi, Poppet and Vicki on their toe-tapping quest to find fortune and fame. In October, Hull’s award winning playright Richard Bean will see his play Kiss Me get its first outing beyond its London run at the Trafalgar Studios. Matt Aston, fresh from his critically acclaimed production of Touched at the Nottingham Playhouse, will direct this funny and tender play set 10 years after the First World War. To complete the cultural year with the last of our Autumn trio, Emily Bronte’s classic novel Wuthering Heights is re-invented by The John Godber Company to bring this classic Yorkshire gothic tale to theatrical life with authentic Yorkshire voices. For Christmas what could be more seasonal than serving up an ERT production of Frank Capra’s film classic, It’s A Wonderful Life? Jake Smith makes his ERT directorial debut with this ever popular Christmas classic. Whether you are 8 or 80 you are in for an uplifting and heart warming ERT winter treat. Adrian Rawlins Artistic Director
