Highlight:Taiwanese Pastor Visit

with Rev. John McCall September 7&8, 2019: CELEBRATION SUNDAY WEEKEND

In 2019, Celebration Sunday was truly a Celebration Weekend, as 17 Taiwanese pastors traveled to the Carolinas with friend and Taiwan missionary, Rev. John McCall, to spend some time at Montreat and to experience an American church different than their previous visits to much larger churches in big cities like LA or Atlanta - They chose Eastminster, to both learn and share and visit with old friends. On Saturday, the group toured the State House, saw Christ Central (Footcare Ministry) Transitions (Third Thursday Ministry) and USC where they were met by Dr. Cher-Tsin Huang, USC Computer Professor, and Pastor Kunming Su, Taiwanese Christian. (They even experienced Chick fil-A for lunch!) They then returned to EPC to greet their host families, take a tour with Rev. Brian Marsh (top left p. 41), learn about the various ministries (church and day school), and eventually enjoy a covered dish dinner, attended by 100, with plenty for 200. You can tell by the photos on page 41 that cross-cultural connections were made, amidst fun and fellowship. The evening ended with what was described as a form of “Taiwanese line-dance” (2nd row, center, p. 41) around the three rooms in the CLC. Our Taiwanese friends in authentic costumes, wore expressions of joy. On Sunday morning, we worshipped together in both contemporary (Jubilee) and traditional services, our guests performed special music from home after introductions were made by Rev. McCall. After worship, everyone headed over to the gym for a southern meal of fried (or baked) chicken, mac&cheese, green beans, salad, rolls and an assortment of cobblers. The group of pastors then headed back to the mountains of Montreat.
