Foreword The announcement last year by the Ministry of Defence confirmed their intention to leave the Bordon Garrison by 2015. Whilst the departure of the Army from Bordon creates a number of economic and social challenges for the town, it also provides a significant opportunity to bring forward a successful regeneration of Whitehill & Bordon in a way that creates a sustainable, prosperous and environmentally-friendly community, and one that is supported by the key services and infrastructure that the town deserves. Ensuring that the regeneration of the town is supported by a high quality, deliverable and sustainable transport system is critical to the success of the project and in stimulating local economic growth. In September 2011 the County Council set out its Emerging Transport Strategy for Whitehill & Bordon which identified that whilst the car will continue to play a key role in delivering an effective transport system in the future, we also need to provide residents and employees in the town with sustainable alternatives for travel locally and to key destinations outside of Whitehill & Bordon. The Emerging Transport Strategy identified that a high quality public transport system would be required, to provide a ‘step-change’ in public transport provision within the town, and identified the need for the development of a comprehensive Public Transport Strategy. This Public Transport Strategy for Whitehill & Bordon outlines the future approach to ensuring that sustainable travel choices are integral to the regeneration of the town, combining the results of technical work carried out by the County Council over the last 2 years. The Strategy describes the options that have been assessed and considered in formulating this strategy, and sets out the recommended approach for transforming public transport accessibility in Whitehill & Bordon.
