Good Governance: Good governance means complying with the law and legal duties, and carrying out the governance role in the best interests of the not-for-profit. There are considerations beyond strict legal duties when thinking about good governance, such as how meetings are held, who is on your board and what skills they have, how new committee members are inducted, how frequently the board meets, how board papers are prepared and distributed and more. Not for Profit Law.

COMMITTEE OF MANAGEMENT OR BOARD HEALTH CHECKS

Need to Know You are Doing Things Right as a Committee or Board ? Eastern Volunteers have provided many community organisations with Health Checks which have turned their governance around. The process involves CoM members or Directors undertaking 2 surveys which usually take about 15 minutes each. A report is prepared and then fed back to you in a meeting where we discuss the findings. This often raises new aspects or deepens the understanding of the strengths and areas of improvement required for good governance.

TO ENQUIRE ABOUT OUR HEALTH CHECKS CALL VIV ON 0438 163 635 OR EMAIL: viv.cunninghamsmith@easternvolunteers.org.au

We find that many people who volunteer their time on Boards or CoM are unaware of their legal and regulatory responsibilities or what governance is. We help you to get on the right track in a way which is suited to the size, type, complexity and risk profile of your organisation. YARRA RANGES AND WHITEHORSE COUNCILS HAVE FUNDED A NUMBER OF FREE HEALTH CHECKS IN 2020. CALL US NOW IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.

The 2 Governance Health Checks I have been involved in provided a firm foundation to build from and gave us confidence in where we are going or where we need to be. We wouldn’t be where we are today without it.

Usual Cost : $1000-00

As a small, grass roots organisation we were thrilled to be able to access such useful and positive advice on the governance of our organisation.

Good Governance: Governance refers to the processes, activities and relationships that make sure your charity is effectively and properly run. There is ‘good governance’ when charities have practices and procedures in place that help them to do their work effectively and openly, and when the roles and responsibilities of people in the charity are clearly understood. This includes the particular roles of board members and the roles of staff, volunteers and members. Of course, good governance is more than the rules of your charity and the individual behaviours of board members. It involves strong relationships between the members of your governing body and stakeholders and is much more about working as a collective than the individual responsibilities.
