Capitol Theater Arts Academy Summer Musical Theater Program Presents

Your child will shine on the Capitol Theater stage in our full-length production of Brigadoon. One of the most captivating and enjoyable aspects of a musical is the ability to transport the audience and cast to a whole new world. Brigadoon tells the story of a Scottish town that disappears into the Highland mists and returns for just one day every one hundred years. Summer Musical Theater Program with CTAA is fun, educational and exciting. Making new friends and exploring a variety of theatrical skills will be at the center of your child’s summer while they learn to sing, dance, sew, build a set, act, and so much more. Give your child a summer to remember!

Brigadoon Synopsis Two weary hunters, Tommy Albright and Jeff Douglas, have lost their way in the Highlands of Scotland. As the exhausted men reflect on what they have given up in States, the veil of mists lifts to reveal the awakening village of Brigadoon; a village that comes to life for one day each century. The villagers, dressed in 18th century clothing, have gathered in the market square to sell their wares and discuss the final wedding preparations of Jeannie MacLaren and Charlie Dalrymple. The strange interactions of Tommy and Jeff become more confused as the men fall for two town girls, Fiona and Meg Brockie. The blissful occasion of marriage is momentarily tinged with gloom when the fate of Brigadoon is threatened by Harry Beaton, Jeannie’s rejected suitor. And Tommy, who now knows Brigadoon’s secret and is in love with Fiona, is confronted with the choice to remain in the Highlands with her or to return to his life in America. Unable to choose at sunset, he leaves with Jeff. Restless and unhappy in New York, Tommy finally decides to return to the haunting memory of Fiona and the mystical village of Brigadoon. Guided by faith and love, he finds his was back in a beautiful tribute to simplicity, true love and goodness. Some of the beautiful pieces of music include “Waitin’ for My Dearie,” “I’ll Go Home with Bonnie Jean,” “Come to Me, Bend to Me,” “Almost Like Being in Love,” “There But for You Go I,” “The Heather on the Hill” and “My Mother’s Weddin’ Day.”
