PLAYGROUND PROJECT 4 weeks living within a school transforming their learning environment to inspire a new generation

PREPERTATION: EAP will support you every step of the way with planning; stash, ideas organised events for fundraising. We also provide training prior to the trip on climate, Ugandan culture and general travel, ensuring volunteers are fully supported and prepared for their project. VOLUNTEER: Playground build (4 weeks, Mon – Fri, morning): Working alongside our professional Ugandan playground building team and the community, the group will help build an inspiring playground. This gives children an all important space to explore, discover and develop through play, developing vital skills and having fun. VOLUNTEER: Art and Play clubs (4 weeks, Mon, Tues & Thurs, afternoon): Building on the importance of a creative environment, the afternoons are the team’s chance to get involved in school life. By supporting the arts and play clubs, the team get to inspire children and teachers alike to think more creatively and to develop problem solving skills, seeing the real positives that play has to offer. WEEKENDS: (4 weekends, arrival, departure & 3 activity weekend): To make the most of the teams time in Uganda we have three optional weekend trips, which include an unforgettable safari allowing them to walk with rhinos; boost their adrenaline by taking on the famous white water of the Nile and exploring the local area on a quad bike or horse riding safari experiences they will never forget! AFTER TRAVEL: (optional time after the 4 week project): Take time at the end of the project to explore more of the country they now feel at home in. What better way to end your experience? We can help them with travel plans and ideas anything from climbing a mountain, making coffee or trekking with gorillas; Uganda has it all!

EAST AFRICAN PLAYGROUNDS East African Playgrounds was set up by 2 students in 2009 with just 8 volunteers building 1 playground through Leeds RAG. By maintaining strong ethics, and working with students, the project has grown from strength to strength; working together we aim to make huge changes to the lives of children across Uganda as well as providing long-term employment and training for young adults. EAP was born through RAG and has always worked with universities aiming to give the best experiences to students at the most affordable price.

PLAY TIME A playground offers children the space to make sense of any problems they might be facing through role play and imaginative games. It is a positive asset for any community, accommodating an array of opportunities in terms of child development and community cohesion. Our playgrounds give children, who otherwise have a difficult life, the chance and the space to have fun. By providing an environment that promotes unstructured play it encourages children to think for themselves thus gaining vital problem solving skills, which are often missing in classroom teaching.
